The lady friend and I stopped in here one Saturday afternoon for a late lunch. It’s a casual restaurant that has a very comfortable vibe. The place is small so there are not very many tables inside but quiet a few outside to make up for it. It’s a counter service style, so you place your order at the register, pay and then take a number to your table. I’m not a big fan of this type a service especially if you plan to drink more than 1 beer. Anywho, the girlfriend ordered a burger with blue cheese which is her usual with sweet potato fries. I ordered the Firecracker Sandwich but on french bread so as it would be a poboy. The Firecracker Sandwich is Fried shrimp tossed in Buffalo sauce with bacon, pepper jack cheese, fried jalapeño slices and ranch dressing. The sandwich was good but should be served with Tums and a defibrillator. There was too much fried jalapenos and not enough shrimp for my liking. I assume the lack of shrimp was because I changed the bread. Understandable, it was still a good sandwich. The sweet potato fries were crisp and fluffy. Perfect. I’d definitely come back

We absolutely loved our meal there recently. We enjoyed d everything from our appetizers to our poboys. Delicious. Staff was great. They were filling tables quickly. Enjoyed eating on the patio. Husband loves the fried artichoke hearts. Fried mushrooms were awesome and they have a special doping sauce I am assuming is made in house. Havent had good mushrooms like that since my own restaurant years ago lol

I like this place! If I could make one recommendation, my favorite dish was the Mahi Gras sandwich. It’s the tiniest bit pricey, but well worth it. Once I got the fried pickle burger and while it was really tasty, I could only get halfway through because it is REALLY heavy. Nice place, good atmosphere, gone a few times and never been let down. I was told once years ago when I first discovered it to try the crab cakes, they’re the best, but with so many other fun things to choose from I haven’t quite gotten around to it yet.

Great place, almost always packed and I know why. The seafood is great and the crab cakes the best I’ve ever had. Huge burgers with the best toppings, I love the Ponchartrain Pickle burger. A burger with fried pickles, what could be better? Try it, you won’t regret it!

If I could give this place ten stars I would! Went there for lunch and had the All Jacked Up Burger. I came back for supper to have it again! I travel for work and this is the best burger I’ve had any where in this country!!!

The«debris» burger is a work of genius, messy and wonderfully delicious. Side of deep fried goodness(there are choices), a cold beer and you are good to go.

You talk about amazing… this was exactly what my husband and I needed. The food was unreal and the hospitality was top of the line. We were so pleased with the southern hospitality and the amazing food we’ll be back for sure. This is our new hot spot. Check it out, I know you’ll be impressed. Ask Louie for some fried mushrooms… wowza.

Can get really busy depending on what time you go. When my boyfriend and I went the place was packed and we waited around 30 minutes for our food. But you could tell that or food was hot and just made and wasn’t sitting around waiting to be served. Portions are huge. I got the catfish basket with sweet potato fries and it was big. Two people could easily share it. My boyfriend got a BBQ burger. Though it was dripping in bbq sauce, the burger was juicy and extremely tasty.

We are often on the North Shore looking for a good, reasonably priced meal with great service. We found it at the Rusty Pelican. It has a comfortable, rustic environment with indoor and outdoor seating. We were greeted at the counter by Stephanie, who was incredibly friendly and very knowledgeable about the products. If she tells you to order something, do it!!! We decided on the fried pickles and she steered us towards the turkey avocado special as well as the all jacked up burger special. I can tell you that both were nothing short of spectacular and the portion sizes were hearty. The fried pickles tasted like the breading you find on fried oysters. Generous portion, cooked perfectly and they are served with an amazing house made ranch dressing. I had the turkey avocado was on a cheddar jalapeño bun, heavy with turkey, melted Swiss, lettuce and topped with chipotle mayo. Delightful! My husband had the all jacked up burger which had pepper jack, cheddar and FRIED pepper jack cheese, bacon, chipotle mayo and said it was everything good and right with the world. These were daily specials so you better hope it is on the menu when you go because you don’t want to miss it! The kitchen sent out the fried pickles almost as soon as we had sat down and our entrées came out very soon after. That is one seriously quick kitchen. We are super happy we stumbled across this place and it was worth the 40 minute drive from Metairie.

Omg… I just cannot believe how freakin amazing the potato salad is! Growing up in south Louisiana, I have seen wars waged over potato salad. The omission of an ingredient or the addition of a new ingredient(such as olives, say) could cause family or lifelong friends to give each other«the stank eye». Yes… we are passionate partisans to our family recipes. Deviation from the sacrosanct recipe could cost you friends, break up your marriage, or make you spend many hours and a fortune in therapy. The potato salad at the Rusty Pelican is a little like that ring from those Hobbit books and movies. I will now refer to it as «My Preciousssssss» or «one potato salad to rule them all». And while I am pretty sure that crack cocaine is not an actual ingredient in said potato salad, prepare to have some serious withdrawal symptoms after your first taste. I’m also pretty sure that I read an article in last month’s «Vogue» about sour cream being the new crack. Anyhow, suffice it to say that if I were not such a proper Southern lady, I would have licked that plate clean in the middle of that restaurant in front of God and everyone. Also, the Mahi Mahi tacos from the Specials board were«slap yo momma» good, so I am grateful that she wasn’t with me.

We were in the area for the day and Unilocal lead us here for lunch. At first impression it was a cute casual restaurant with a very laid back almost country atmosphere. I was really digging it. We were greeted and welcomed with a smile by the girl behind the register. After perusing the paper menu we made our selections with the cashier. This was a late lunch for us after 2 so they were not very busy. The fried pickles we ordered as an appetizer came out after just a few minutes. They were awesome as fried pickles can be and their house made ranch was the perfect condiment to dip the pickles in. My jive bird sandwich was awesome since I love spicy food! I asked if they could do grilled chicken instead of fried and they happily obliged. Again, their buffalo and ranch did not disappoint. The service was great and very helpful. Even though you order at the bar, they bring the food out to you and asked a few times if we needed anything. The drinks are self serve and we noticed they were out of unsweet tea and within minutes they were putting more fresh brewed tea out. I like the casual vibe and old time feel of the restaurant and this part of Mandeville. If I am in the area again the Rusty Pelican will be on my list to revisit.

As an employee of the St Tammany school system, we have a lot of meetings and trainings to go to at the Treen tech center. Luckily, Treen is about a 5 minute walk to the Rusty Pelican. In the past 6 weeks, I have gone there three times for lunch. On my first visit I ordered the buffalo chicken salad with bleu cheese dressing. The salad is huge. They give you so much chicken. The buffalo sauce is actually pretty spicy. The onions and croutons are also plentiful. The next two times I went back I ordered the exact same thing. Except last time, I ordered grilled chicken in the salad to attempt to be a tad healthier. It’s such a great salad, I’m not sure if I will ever order anything else lol. Being a school system employee, I get a free fountain drink which is great! My friend really likes the chicken tender meal and the sauce that comes with it.

The crab cakes are great. Even though they are fried they are full of crab and seasoning with no filling inside. Lots of great oysters, on the Po’Boy. The potato salad was delicious. Cheese fries order is HUGE and good. Even though it was storming and the lights kept flickering out, everything went smoothly. I loved that all the locals kept coming in. Everyone knew each other. Made me wish I lived around the corner.
