Daniel Edward Haas – An Accountancy Corporation

Dearest Unilocal friends,
As I read through all the complaints against Daniel Haas, I realized that I’m not the only one unable to get in contact with him. As many people here, he also cashed my check and never filled my tax returns. I’m in discussion with my legal council and will be pressing charges against him. I encourage all those who are in the same situation to reach out to me as we will have a stronger impact the more we are.

Negative again Daniel haas has been threatening me to take this review off ! He is ridiculous

Agree with previous posts… quick to cash the check for preparing 2015 taxes but never filed and never responded to repeated inquiries regarding status. Not sure what the purpose was really. Why go thru the appointments and then not file which would only be a click away right???
…Question— does anyone have his Preparer Tax ID? I’m filing a complaint with IRS (and probably the police) but never received anything in writing from him stating the information.

ABSOLUTY the worse account ever… you are better off not filing any taxes if Dan is doing this for you, he does NOT return phone calls, nor emails… but when it comes to paying him for some reason you can reach him… He’s a coward! And does not face the responsibility you pay him for… I’ve contacted the IRS and he’s not even registered with the IRS as a certified accountant since 2009 … He is practicing «illegally» and now I have to take him to court to collect what I can can from him… Please do yourself a favor, Don’t ’ I mean don’t give this man your business… all he will have you do is stress out ! And don’t forget he is practicing illegally !! He deserves –5 stars!

Unfortunately, I am having this exact same situation happen right now. We’ve stopped by both office locations and left notes to call us back — nothing. We’ve left voicemails and emails — nothing. I have no idea if he’s even filed my taxes for 2015 and am so stressed out right now. It just isn’t worth going through this stress. Giving someone such important responsibility over your financial situation, you would want them to take your stress and concern seriously as well. We had a great experience with him a few years back but something has definitely changed and the same level of service is not being offered. I still have no idea what I can do for this year’s filing since it is clear he is not planning on responding to me. I simply just asked if he could tell me yes or no that he filed just so I know what I am dealing with. I don’t have a copy of the filing since he was supposed to send a copy to me which I never received. This has been going on since February and I just read these reviews yesterday and know now I need find someone else to probably file late for me. It has made me so frustrated and upset.

The other reviewers giving a 1-​star rating are spot on. He left me high and dry for my taxes in 2015 and has failed to return a phone call or answer an email. He cashed my check for his tax services 4 weeks ago but has failed to respond to all communication requests and I have not received my refund after 4 weeks.
I also had my usual accountant retire and Dan Haas took over his business so that is why I went to him for my tax returns. Pamela S’s (reviewer) situation is very similar to mine and the outcome is the same — he does not contact you back. I have no idea whether he actually submitted the return to the IRS and he won’t contact me back to confirm.
I highly recommend avoiding this man and his «Accountancy Corporation.»
I will be filing a formal complaint with the IRS. If other reviewers have had similar experiences with Dan then I urge you to also file a complaint.
UPDATE: He has recently filed the tax returns — the IRS has confirmed. The lack of communication remains a serious problem when someone is entrusted with such personal and private information.

My accountant of many years retired and Daniel Haas took over his business. Everything that is written about him is true. I did not read the Unilocal reviews until all my emails were not answered or my phone calls. My taxes were not filed and no response in anyway from him. This has been a nightmare and I am trying to figure out what to do next. He threatens people who post negative reviews but all the reviews are honest.

This is an update on the previous review. I have paid Dan Haas for services back in Feb. 2015 and now that he miraculously has time to respond to my over 20 emails he is threatening me to remove my honest Unilocal review first then he will finalize my taxes.

Let me begin by pointing out that I was a longstanding client of Dan’s for many years — something like 6 or 7 years. I was recommended to Dan by a former realtor and was happy with Dan’s services once upon a time. I was always the kind of client who scheduled early (like February), had everything organized and added up and stapled together and such. Dan was a tax organizer who knew the right questions to ask to help you get the most that you could. I’d go in, get things done and have my refund in no time.
All was good until 2012 when Dan acquired another person’s business. I met with Dan last year early as usual, provided everything to him as usual and then heard NOTHING. I called, emailed, called, emailed and called some more and never got an answer about what was going on with my taxes. Typically I had my refund early, but before I knew it it was June and I had nothing and no word on if my taxes had even been filed. The few times I reached his wife (office assistant at the new location once he acquired the other guy’s business), I asked her what the deal was and what was going on, as I’d been a longstanding client and couldn’t make sense of the poor service I was receiving in just getting my taxes completed or even getting a response from Dan. It was only after I finally threatened to come to the office to get my paperwork that I finally got what was needed to sign and complete my taxes finally. But, in all the stress and frustration and constant emails and voicemails one thing I never got was an apology. Dan acted like filing late was no big deal — and worse, acted like I was no big deal as a client.
Fast forward to this year when I receive Dan’s usual January email about scheduling appointments and I responded with an email as directed saying the particular dates listed didn’t work for me and I asked for an alternative date the did work. No response. Ever. Finally I told myself I’m not giving him another chance and I moved on to find another accountant. Now, as I said, I’m the organized type, but somehow, I managed to overlook that Dan never sent me my final tax documents for 2012, something he always did with a financial summary and your final bill. He did of course manage to send me constant copies of my bill, which I never should have paid the full amount, but oh well. Dan has his priorities straight, that’s for sure — and customer service is not one of them. So, here I am, trying to complete my taxes and I don’t have paperwork that is mine and should have been sent to me. I tried calling — nope, no luck. No one ever answers the phone. I send an email. No response again. Finally, I decide to drive to his office, the location he moved to last year on Crenshaw when he acquired the other accounts and meet face to face with three staff who tell me that Dan is no longer housed in that office and I should try his old office. They also tell me that they don’t know any other way to reach him, that he left a week ago, that I likely won’t ever see my documents again and that I’m not the only person trying to find Dan. Good grief. So I drive over to his previous location in MB and sure enough, there he is. He knows it’s me right away, says, «Let’s get you those documents» and offers me a seat. I’m so upset that I don’t bother confronting his lack of customer service while he prints out my 2012 returns. He offered a print out AND to email me a PDF, but of course he never sends me the PDF. That was about 12:45pm today and as of this hour — 4pm, I still have nothing in my email.
So, unfortunately, I cannot recomend Dan. I don’t know what happened and it’s really a shame that after such a long time working together someone could become so unresponsive and unprofessional.

I had to comment again on Dan after reading him actually arguing specific people on Unilocal.How about providing the level of service that people pay for that you promise you’ll deliver? In my case in particular, we were audited and I must have left about 10 messages for you as I’ve never been audited before. The one or two times I got you on the phone you said to send over what I had received and that you would get back to me. That never happened!
How can you sleep at night when you know exactly what you’re doing is not ethical? You sat across from my wife and I and shook our hands and told us you’d be there if anything ever came up in the future. You looked me in the eye. Look at all of these reviews? Take ownership of this and make things right. What kind of example are you setting for your children?

I’m removing my negative post because I was threatened with a «multi-​million dollar defamation» case.

I hate to post a negative review but I hate more for someone else to go through what I did this past year… returns not filed… NEVER answer the phone… messages ignored… e-​mails go unanswered… penalties, IRS notices… no excuses.

Dan Haas cost me a lot of money. I had him prepare my 2010 taxes in March and discovered over a year later that he didn’t file them until October 30. I had to pay over $ 1000 in IRS late filing and penalty fees and another $ 500 in state late fees. He also neglected to report stock income which cost me another $ 4000+ in taxes. He refused to answer my calls. ZERO stars. Worst tax preparer ever!

Daniel Haas is unethical and irresponsible to the point of cruelty. Once he got his fee, he made himself inaccessible. He refused to acknowledge, much less rectify, messages informing him a serious problem that had arisen: The IRS and Franchise Tax Board had not received my mother’s 2010 tax returns, and were sending notifications that surprised and worried her. Haas hadn’t filed her taxes, then lied and claimed he had. (BOTH tax entities lost the returns!!! I don’t think so.)
When Mom finally did reach him, he promised to «send it off today,» which he did not do. We tried calling him again. He never answered his phone, and wouldn’t return calls.
After several weeks of this, I paid a surprise visit to his office. He tried to brush off our concerns, saying, «This is not as big a problem as your mother makes it out to be.»
He initially tried to blow me off, saying he «will send in the tax returns next week.» Considering he’d done nothing but lie and fail to honor his promises, I insisted he give me a copy right then. From that point, it was up to us to get things straightened out; Haas continued to be apathetic.
Because of Daniel Haas,‘s negligence and irresponsibility, for the first time ever, my mother is paying interest and penalties on state and federal taxes.
I strongly advise against doing business with this man. My mother is not his only victim.

FYi– he’s threatening to sue whoever has written a bad review — has called it defamatiion — though in this case, I have his email saying that he would sue me — can’t call that made up.
You decide whether you want to work with someone like this —

The most unprofessional service I have ever received. I paid $ 500 for tax services and a few months later received a letter from the IRS for late filing and a penalty of $ 100. He would not return my emails or calls and never helped to resolve the issue. I would think that for 500 bucks, he would at least of filed on time. He acquired the business from a retired accountant that myself and several coworkers used. All of my coworkers have experienced the same problems with him: late filings and zero response after payment. That does not create a lasting business relationship.
I would post ZERO stars but Unilocal does not allow it.
