Is Jerry still here? I had a great haircut from him a month ago, but now I can’t find him through the number on Unilocal

This review is definitely long overdue!
I’ve been going to Jerry since inception of his hair styling career nearly ten years ago, and I’ve followed him around the South Bay like a loyal little puppy. You would too if you’ve been fortunate enough to have a «hair by Jer» do, as he has become so affectionately known for.
Growing up, I’ve always had the typical long and straight Asian hair look – no bangs, layers or color. And, because my hair is stick straight, it’s hard to cut because precision is key – even the slightest error would be obvious. So my first cut with Jerry was something extremely drastic and I chopped my long locks to a shoulder length bob with bangs and I absolutely loved it! Although now looking back, I traded one Asian look for another, lol. It was easy to manage and maintain and require only 5 minutes every morning. The cut framed my round face really well and complimented my features… not trying to toot my own horn but those are things that many people want in a cut, and Jerry made it happen on his first cut with me.
Since then, I’ve tried different lengths, different bangs and varying layers and I’ve been extremely satisfied with all of the cuts. He’s also had to adjust the way he cuts and styles my hair since I’ve had kids since and them hormones do a number on everything including hair growth, texture and quantity.
Although the pics that I have aren’t the best (since I’ve had to go though years of pics) I have no hesitation recommending Jerry to others including my old boss/​Director and he still goes to him! Jerry has a well-​rounded clientele including women, men, children of varying ages – he does it all!
Jerry is currently at Divat Salon in Manhattan Beach. Located right on Sepulveda and parking is available behind the building.

A much overdue update:
Four years later and I’m still hitting up Jerry Madrid for all my cuts. He’s at Divat Salon in MB now. And still killing it. For dudes, he’s my reco for your go-​to guy for your hair. He’s got a great eye and can work the scissors on even the toughest, most stubborn head of hair. (See my notes below, especially you Asian homeys, you know who you are.)
Jerry’s a rad guy with a cool personality. Keeps it real. And he comes from a family of old-​school barbers, which mixed with his modern day stylist skills, makes for the perfect hair guy for us dudes.
Also, while I’m not a woman and can’t speak from experience, I have seen many ladies leave his chair with sick, stunning styles and color.

Jerry Madrid is amazing. I just moved back to the South Bay and was looking for a new stylist. I was referred to Jerry by a South Bay local who’s been going to him for over a decade. Jerry listened to exactly what I wanted. I had shoulder length blonde hair and he gave me a professional modern bob with sexy layers and side bangs. I love my new sassy hair. I can’t wait to see him in 6 weeks for some blonde highlights.

Jerry is hands down my beloved, trusted, go-​to, one and only stylist. He is devoted to his craft and will stop at nothing to ensure the happiness of his clients. Each and every time I come in he is ready to pamper me. Something I find to be invaluable is his commitment to keeping my hair healthy. I could go on and on about Jerry. He is passionate, caring, attentive and prepared to take complete and utter care of his clients. I’m at the point where I just let him do his thing and he continues to impress me. Thanks Jerry, you’re the best!

Jerry was great. He was really friendly, attentive and really cared about getting my hair right. He was also able to squeeze me in on short notice. I’ll be coming back for another great men’s cut when it’s time.

Jerry is a color genius! He does a great job of listening and executing the color you want. He also maintains the health of the hair. He is amazing!

Jerry’s been my stylist for a few years now and I get TONS of compliments on my hair all the time! All I know is that Jerry works his magic to create unique custom colors with depth & works hard to keep his clients happy. I trust Jerry with my cut/​color & I always leave his chair feeling happy & beautiful.

I don’t have enough great things to say about Jerry. As a guy who primarily stuck with buzz cuts, I finally decided to grow my hair out and take my look more seriously. I am SO GLAD I went to Jerry — he is knowledgeable, passionate about what he does, and really educates and works with you to give you your best look possible.
I’ve gone to Jerry a couple times now and what I can tell you is he a humble dude and all-​around great guy. Never pushy and he will always give you his suggestions about how to improve the cut.
As far as the male population out there goes — if you’re skeptical about going to some fancy salon to get your haircut — don’t be. Jerry and his right-​hand man Victor are incredibly welcoming and take all the pressure off of what can be an unnatural environment for guys.

I’m a blonde so it can be a struggle finding an amazing colorist that won’t damage your hair, but after 6 months of living here my girlfriends recommended Jerry. Jerry really wants to understand what exactly you want done — he communicates really well. He truly cares about the health of your hair and is always giving good tips to maintain your best hair. I’m so grateful to have found him and want to recommend all my friends to visit him too.

Because of Jerri I can now, finally, stop going all the way to Beverly Hills. It has taken me years to find someone who listens and cares about what I want with my hair. The first time I went to see Jerri, I was nervous. «Why?», I ask myself now. He was a breath of fresh air. He asks many questions before he begin his magic. He wants to be fully sure about how you style your hair, what you put in it, what you are looking for, and he aks about your lifestyle to get a hint of what your hair is exposed to. I have been in search for a stylist that can truly cut nice, long, seamless layers and I FINALLY found one– here in Manhattan Beach!!! Thanks for being so awesome at your craft, AND for being so cool, down-​to-​earth, and most of all, caring, Jerri! His assistant, Victor, is so rad too! Great peeps to have a conversation with! ;-)

My husband and I have both been going to Jerry for about 3 years now. He is super talented with both color and cut. If your hair isn’t exactly what you want when he’s done he’ll fix it before you leave. I’ve never been disappointed by Jerry’s great work. Where can I start? Not only did Jerry accommodate to my availability & special needs when I first called to make an appt. but then when I arrived to the salon he welcomed me with a rose, a big smile & something to drink — good start huh? :)
His brazilian blowout keratin treatment was IMPECCABLE! My hair is so smooth, straight & with NO FRIZZ!!! I also got a hair cut & he gave me a good deal so overall very very satisfied with the service and experience!!!
I recommend Jerry 100%!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE him!

Well, I just moved-​in in the neighborhood and one thing I need to settle with is to find a local barber shop. Months have past and so as many barber shops. Luckily hair grows no matter what you do to it and sadly, I got butchered by local barber shops even though their Unilocal reviews were decent.
Enough is enough!
Debating if I should go back to my barber shop in the Valley and call it a day. Easy said and done, right? You see, gas is not cheap and so as the trouble going through traffic… roundtrip!!! Oh hell nah!!!
Once again, Unilocal did the job and it directed me to Mr. Jerry.
5 stars!!! You got to be kidding! There’s no way!
Yeah, I was skeptic but what the heck…
So I made a call and right off the bat, Jerry accommodated my need for a hair cut ASAP (same day). He booked me with an evening appointment, which was rare for me but also worked with my schedule and his. I am not used to coming to a salon but this actually says a lot about him and his craft. My concern was how am I going to get comfortable and thinking if I should trust this dude to touch my hair and hopefully he would not mess it up. Okay!!! A short greeting and believe it or not my shield of ice broke and I was relax. Oh, he also had an assistant, which he is mentoring. That was cool! Anyway, he asked how do I want my hair done? While he assessed and observed my hair 360 degrees, I briefly shared him my past horror experiences with other 3.5 and above stars barber shops. He knew my concerns but he humbly appreciated that I reach-​out and allowed his expertise into action.
Scissors went flying, hoisted up and down the chair, few conversations and Viola!
I’m a happy customer!!!

I’m not a fashionable guy, but coming here for my haircuts has gained me many compliments. i think the ultimate testament to jerry’s work is that even guys have randomly come up to me just to say «that is some good hair, dude.» and i know for every compliment there are more than have gone unspoken. i’m not saying this to boast about me, but its to show that jerry can give one awesome cut!
also — jerry definitely knows how to cut asian hair. i like that he’s able to provide a look that is atypical of how most asian men wear their hair.
the friendly service he provides is an added bonus. just come once and give it a shot.

Amazing stylist. Very detailed, precise, and professional. Asks specifically for what you want with questions and does his best to give you what you envisioned. Talented with men’s hair and woman’s hair (my mom gets cut by him). And apparently he’s really good with asian hair types too. Don’t let the «only asians know how to cut asian’s hair» stop you.

Jerry has not only become my go-​to stylist, but also a great friend.
What really sets him apart is that he is genuinely passionate about his work, and has built his career from the ground up with hard work.
Jerry really makes you feel comfortable about trying out new cuts, colors, or treatments because he wants you to feel good about the way you look. He is a home-​grown guy who lives and works in the South Bay, and I always love supporting my local peeps — I’m moving to NYC and I’m still coming home to get a haircut from him.
But it’s not just passion — the guy has talent! I always get compliments on my cut and style — I’ve been going to Jerry for a few years and he’s given me an amazing shorter bob (cut off 10 inches of my hair) and now that my hair has grown out, he styled my hair with layers to give it more body and character, while keeping the length. I LOVE IT!
Come see him at Magnolia Salon on Artesia and Green — have a glass of wine & relax and enjoy a great stylist and you’ll leave feeling like a million — make that a BILLION bucks.
PS. Jerry is a color expert! He does a great job with coloring my mom’s hair. I can’t tell you how many people think she’s my sister now. I can’t attest to having him personally color my hair, because he doesn’t want me to get rid of my natural color :)
Honestly, where can you find a stylist like that who genuinely gives you advice and doesn’t just give you treatments for the extra dough!

I recently went to Magnolia Salon for the first time, and it was a great experience. It’s a nice little boutique salon that’s classy without being pretentious. But the real reason to go here is to have Jerry do your hair! I first went to him on a recommendation from a friend after seeing a picture of her new haircut. I wasn’t really looking for a new hairstylist, but when I saw how awesome her hair looked, I had to give him a try. And I’m so glad I did! Each time he cuts my hair I absolutely love it, and receive so many compliments. In my book, that’s the sign of a great hairdresser you should stick with

JERRY MADRID is working here now. Case closed! Guy is like the zen master of cutting hair. It was probably Jerry’s haircuts that convinced my now wife to say «yes» when I proposed!
In all seriousness though, make an appointment with Jerry! You won’t be disappointed. His cuts are so good that I doubled my appointments from once a month to once every two weeks because of the way I looked and the response I was getting from co-​workers in court (I’m an attorney). It’s hard to say this as a guy, but my stylist has changed my life!

Jerry Madrid is awesome! I found him on Unilocal due to all the great reviews and I’m so happy i found him !! Met him at Londoner Salon and followed him to his new location Magnolia (1987 Artesia). I’ve always had bad experiences with my hair; too short, too blond, too dark you get the idea but Jerry was able to work his magic and get my hair just the way I love it! He’s passionate about his art and you can see it! I highly recommend Jerry! By the way the new salon is awesome, lots of parking, great location and the other stylists are super sweet!
