Blow Out

Had a great blowout! Stylist asked all the right questions about height, how straight I wanted it (I didn’t), and even pinned the curls before I left with instructions to take them out right before heading out for the night so they would hold. It’s day two and my hair looks just as amazing as yesterday.

I had a blow dry with Mateus a few months ago and it was great. I’ve tried on numerous occasions to schedule another appointment with him but to no avail.
This place never ever ever answers the phone nor returns calls. What is the point of being a business if you don’t return clients’ calls promptly? With so many other Dry Bars in the city, why waste your time waiting for this one to call back, when their track record shows that they rarely call back and if they do it is at least a day or two later? Try calling and leaving a message, you will see this is true!
Not a fan of this place, AT ALL. The one star rating is for the great job Mateus did months ago.

All the good reviews for Blow Out were within the first 6 weeks of its opening. Service has gone badly downhill since then, so please consider this an update.
First, the stylist who got the well-​deserved praise (Matteus) is gone. He quit after the owner switched the reservation system from a live person answering the phone to one where customer calls go automatically into voicemail and a recording promises to call back. But there’s no flashing light on the other end so stylists must dial in constantly to search messages. Which they can’t or don’t do… The end result is almost no calls requesting a reservation get returned.
Unsurprisingly, the good stylists all quit in short order. The replacements are pleasant, well-​meaning, and marginally adequate. Certainly not worth $ 35.
To top it off, a reservation is meaningless. I made a 6:30 and was called at 5:45 to ask if I could come later. I rescheduled and when I arrived on time, the lone stylist was servicing a walk-​in. The owner told me they were «running late» and it would be 10 minutes — B.S., since the walk-​in had just been shampooed. The stylist tried to tell the owner that I’d already been rescheduled once but the owner ignored her. Who takes a walk-​in 5 minutes before an established customer with an appointment?
The owner was tapping on her iPhone and wouldn’t even look at me while blah-​blahing about the 10 minute wait. This place clearly is a hobby that won’t last — disappointing for we locals who hoped to support a new neighborhood business.

This salon is a refreshing break from the usual in this neighborhood. When you walk in, the ambiance and décor are as sophisticated as a salon on Madison Avenue. But, not only is it pretty to look at, a salon with a good-​looking ambiance is nothing without a stellar staff. They are all so professional, warm and knowledgeable in their craft, and I always walk out with a hip blow out and a smile. Keep up the good work, Giselle, Mateo and Julie!

I had my blow out done by Mateus and he was great! It lasted for days (with the help of some dry shampoo :) and he was so fun and energetic! I bought the 5 blowout Groupon deal and am looking forward to going back again and again!

I bought my daughter a package of 5 Blow-​Outs for her birthday and she used the first one yesterday. The place is as described – a «boutique» salon, small, new, clean… and fantastic! My daughter has very, as she calls it, «kinky curly» hair and sometimes people don’t know how to work with it so they just want to cut it off! I booked an appointment with Jullianette (she said to call her Julie) and when I arrived to meet my daughter at the salon, she was already having her hair blown out. Julie couldn’t have been nicer or more professional. The best part was she knew exactly how to work with my daughter’s hair. Mateus, the other stylist who was working at the time was also very nice and his client was thrilled when he was finished with her (her hair did look beautiful). My daughter’s hair looks gorgeous, and her next appointment is already booked! Crossing my fingers that this new little salon stays around because once someone finds their stylist (and it looks like Julie’s my daughter’s!) they tend to stick with them. Thank you so much!!!
