Looking for a place to kill time, I popped in here before realizing it was attached to a bookstore. Seems like a chain, not unlike the shops attached to Borders back in the day. It was pretty quiet when I came in. Having my fix already for the day, I took a rare order of decaf, which they brewed fresh for me. He told me it was frenchpress style, and would be more flavorful. The guy behind the counter seemed to try and explain things a bit. He didn’t seem overly knowledgable, but did care enough to inform people of the basics. Friendly enough guy. In the end, the roast wasn’t bad, but not great either. Maybe a step below Starbucks. Forgettable, but not bad. They had a counter with outlets next to each seat, which I did appreciate. This place try’s a bit, so they get a middle of the road rating. On coffee alone, probably more like 2.5÷5 stars. Not offensive, but far from memorable.

The service staff is friendly, and the coffee is wonderful. I love curling up with a good cup of coffee and reading a book at the Hardback Coffee Café. My own mother said that her cup rivaled that of SB!

Coffee is good — only one person behind counter so buy a book — you might have to wait.
