Sparrow Specialty Coffee

Stopped in for a quick coffee date with the wife. Location is a little hidden, but it’s nice that it isn’t crowded.

Not a huge selection, but what they have is nice for someone who appreciates good coffee.

Sparrow Specialty Coffee is a solid win in my book! This has become my go-​to coffee shop in Manhattan. The baristas are always very pleasant, and take time to make you feel like more than just a customer. The atmosphere is very cute, and inviting.
I tend to get the lavender latte, which is deliciuis! I love that they make their own syrups in-​house, and quite enjoy the pour over style coffee.

I love coming here because the staff is always really helpful and friendly and they love to joke around. The coffee is excellent, and they make their own syrups as well. There’s never many people in the shop, at least when I go, so I usually bring some study materials and work for a bit. Good coffee, fun staff, and a calm atmosphere make for a great shop.

Awesome coffee with subtle, great flavors. Always appreciate a place that can get a good foam with almond milk, which is tricky. Atmosphere is relaxed and comfy, will keep coming back!

I’ve been here a handful of times and was underwhelmed each time. The staff is so rude and snotty if you don’t know as much as they do about coffee. They literally won’t serve it how you like it because it’s not how «it’s supposed to be made». I get that they want it to be a certain way and promote a certain ‘way of enjoying coffee, but find a way to be polite and educate customers and not make them feel stupid or out of control of their own order. I have not been head over heels about the drinks I’ve had, just fine. The location is kind of annoying to get to and park at at times, but that also is a positive because there’s usually space there to spread out and relax and it’s not as crowded with students like Arrow is. However, I’d recommend Arrow over Sparrow ¹⁰⁄₁₀ times.

Our new favorite Manhattan coffee shop! We recently came to this coffee shop to get some work done for a few hours – while also in search of a pour over coffee in Manhattan. We were not disappointed. This family owned coffee shop is fantastic. While we were there the owner was working. He knew almost all of the regulars by name. He asked them about their recent vacations, how school was going, ect. It was incredibly clear he is invested in his community and invested in getting to know his customers.
There are about 10 different seating options – so while it is a smaller coffee shop you can probably find space at a table or on a couch.
In terms of coffee, five stars. The owner was great in helping me choose my option. They had about 5 fresh coffee roasts available for brewing. They freshly grind the beans for the pour over. (Note pour over takes about 5 minutes, prepare to wait) The pour over was great and just what I wanted. My boyfriend ordered the iced tea. It was made fresh using loose tea to make a concentrate then pouring it over ice. It was one of the best iced teas I’ve had.
They seem to make panini sandwiches and have some pastries but they are not a full kitchen coffee shop.
Prices are in the Starbucks range, if not cheaper. They offer student and military discounts and have a punch card program. Wifi is fast and easy to access. Parking is on the street but we had no issue finding a spot.

I’ve only been to Sparrow SC once, so can’t offer more than that perspective. I stumbled upon it with friends on a chilly day while there was a long wait at the Chef, figuring we could pass the time with some coffee inside versus sitting on a bench in the wind. Good choice. Sparrow was perfect for that.
I ordered a cortado, which was alright. It was made correctly, but seemed a little bitter for my taste. I usually don’t add sugar to any of my espresso drinks, but felt I should have with this to help balance it out. It was served with a splash of mineral water.
The décor was really nice — hip for a little shop in Manhattan. The chess board table was a good touch, and we played for a bit once the people originally there left. I’m somewhat confused by the TV in the shop… the workers were nice enough to change the channel to the soccer match we were interested in, but if I were trying to study somewhere, this would be the last thing I’d want around.
Overall, it was a nice place — average. It seemed the coffee was priced higher than most places in Manhattan, but they’re also focused on pour overs versus batch brews like the other places in the ville. I’ll give it a second go sometime, but it hasn’t won me over as my favorite coffee shop in MHK.

I have been to Sparrow twice now, I’m still on the hunt for decent coffee in Manhattan. The atmosphere is nice and so are the baristas. But if you want a cup of coffee to go, this isn’t the place for you. For coffee they have a selection of beans for pour overs, so you get about 12oz of coffee for $ 4.08 ($ 5.08 with tip). Yikes. I guess you could get an americano for a more moderate $ 2.50 but I wasn’t wowed by the espresso my first time around so I wanted to give the coffee a shot. Also, they didn’t have raw sugar :(I like to support local businesses but the prices and quality of Sparrow don’t justify it. I’ll be at home with my aeropress for now.

A humble shop that provides the perfect setting if you are looking for strong coffee and a quiet place to work or study. The staff is very friendly and helpful, if you need the extra push to decide from their various coffee and tea selections. Overall, a great cup of coffee and I will definitely come back.

This shop has it all: charm, friendly staff, and amazing drinks. Try the hot chocolate with lavender, and you won’t be sorry.

This place is only concerned about their atmosphere. It would be a really nice place to hang out, except for the fact that their drinks are not good, and are overpriced for the amount that you get. My sister ordered a lavender latte and ended up paying $ 5 for a terrible tasting drink in a «sippy» cup sized container. Wow. They should warn people of their tiny cup sizes. Starbucks offers similar drinks in cups that are double the size at a lower cost. We ended up going to the Arrow coffee shop afterwards. (They have excellent chai lattes btw)

Really great coffee shop. Was in town for a business conference and made a few trips to this shop. The baristas were wonderful and we’re happy to make recommendations for us. Amazing coffee! My favorites were the iced toddy and the Ethiopian pour-​over.

This is my favorite coffee place in MHK. The slow roast artisan coffee is as delicious as it is beautiful. The mocha with almond milk is the best I’ve ever had.

I walked in with hopes of specialty beans for a specialty coffee shop. its just a basic place, Radinas has a bigger selection, honestly. I wouldn’t waste my time.

Without a doubt the best place for coffee! All the drinks and pastries are wonderful and fresh, the atmosphere is inviting and comfortable, and the staff and management is friendly and virtuous! 10 stars!

Let’s start with the Yirgacheffe. Because this pour over was the second best cup of coffee I’ve had in my life. Period.
I’m sure this is due to the freshness of the batch, but it’s also from a Kansas City Roaster, who seems to be up and coming. I need to look them up, because this bean. Oh man.
The presentation was pretty cool, with a cup and a separate beaker for a complimentary refill. The guy at the counter said he likes to use the extra to taste the brew after it cools, and see the difference.
The ambiance is also worth noting, and more trendy than Radina’s. They have nice leather and padded lounge chairs, with wood tables and counters to round things out. More importantly, outlets everywhere.
Then there’s the staff. They were awesome. Knowledgable, on a big city level, friendly, and serious about their love of coffee. We talked repeatedly throughout the visit, and they made a point to shake my hand before I left.
I had a good experience with the staff at Radina’s earlier, and even after this, I’m glad I went there. However, this place is on another level. Radina’s staff was notable, but every aspect of Sparrow’s just shines.
If you’re looking for the best coffee in Manhattan, I seriously doubt you’ll find anything even close to this, and certainly nothing better. Go here if you are serious about coffee, or just want a good experience.

Sparrow’s coffee may be the best in Manhattan. The atmosphere puts this place above many other coffee shops in town. It’s got a great interior — lots of wood. The music is always great and the employees always friendly. The only thing keeping Sparrow from 5 stars in my book is the prices. But the coffee is worth the price.

Sparrow is a new addition to downtown MHK, on the northeast corner of 4^th and Pierre. It is had a great interior, perfect for chatting with friends or getting some work done. Sparrow is a «slow pull» bar which is limited to coffee and hot chocolate. Eric R. and I went in for tea but there is not yet tea on the menu. The staff told us that tea may be added eventually. You can purchase baked goods here with your hot drinks and schmooze inside at the tables. This is a cool place to hang out and a nice local addition to the area. I hope tea is added soon!
