Been getting my hair styled by Matthew Tuozzoli here since I moved to NYC in 2013 and he’s been amazing. The cuts are always exactly what I had envisioned, grow-out nicely, and he totally gets the modern spin on traditional barbering I go for, so it’s never too traditional. Also wanted to put a good word in since not everyone can work well with Asian hair(even if they’re a great stylist on Caucasian hair) since you have to slightly modify styles so they don’t stick up or out too much, especially on the shorter cuts. It’s always been a challenge for me to find someone who can, so I’m always excited when I do. Matthew’s also a sweetheart who’s fun to chat with as well, which is always a big plus.

I’ve been to several salons in NYC and Jeff Chastain Parlor is my favorite. The environment is fun, it’s centrally located, amazing service, and perfect results every time. I’m a blonde and I see Jeff(owner) for balayage which is beyond amazing if that’s what you want, and I always see James Lyons for that heavy foil blonde when I want to look Scandi. They are efficient and don’t have you in the salon for 5 hours with all the fluff some other salons do(making you wait, the fancy annoying blow dry that is never really right). I always feel gorgeous when I leave! For non blondes I see many hair colors, styles, looks, in the salon and everyone looks so fab — from the classics to the cool chicks! For NYC the cut and color is really reasonably priced!

Not a review for Jeff himself — though his salon space is lovely — but I would be remiss if I didn’t put in some high praise for James Lyons, who works out of this salon and does my color. James is a GOD of a colorist. I have black hair and most of my attempts to get some flattering highlights have resulted in hideous orangey-yellow streaks. I’ve had the most lovely subtle caramel ombré for going on three years now and just switched to a gorgeous, rich, dimensional chocolate. I can’t imagine having anyone else touch my hair.

I’ve been going to Jeff ever since he styled my sister’s wedding in 2010. His haircuts are beautiful, and he spends enough time with you consulting before he starts cutting. He makes you feel totally comfortable, and I trust him 1000% to make me look good. He’s also really helpful with tips to maintain your hair once you leave the salon. He’s also super friendly and funny. I’ve also been going to Jessie Riley for my color since 2010. She’s great with consultations, and I always come out loving whatever she does. She carefully listens to you, and works with you to get your desired look and color. She’s also amazing with makeup and event hair styles. Highly recommended! A++

Based on the Unilocal reviews, and the overall feel of the salon I really wanted to like this place. But still days after my color appointment I have come to the terms that I am just not satisfied. I am usually a crazy nightmare of a client when it comes to my hair, so before choosing a salon I do my research, google searches, and Unilocal reviews. I had a quick meeting this past Saturday in union sq. and I was going to be in the area for most of my day so I figured I try out a new salon to retire my summer ombré. I unfortunately had one too many watermelon martinis at Banc the night before, so I was not entirely on top of my game. When I walked in, I got the trendy flatiron vibe that was portrayed in the dark furniture, painted floors and blue glass chalice of water I was given. I had my consultation with James and let him know I was over my blonde ends and wanted them ridded of my head. I was in search of a deep rich dark brown color for the winter months. James said he would give me this color with a little bit of warmth to add dimension. As soon as I heard warmth I picked up my hungover head and made sure to mention ‘not too much warmth’ as I wanted little to no more traces of blonde in my head. He ensured me I was going to be taken care of. James applied the color to mainly around my head and left my roots and the rest of my hair for a gloss. And that was pretty much the last time I saw him. I was sent to sit in the back and wait for my timer to be up. He assistant then brought me to the sink and he put my gloss on the rest of my hair. Then came the uncomfortable part. I was laying with my head in the sink for a good 25 mins. His assistant then washed me out and brought me over to an empty chair. As he began to dry my hair he needed to stop 3 times to check on another client that was in my precious spot. Except she was sitting up. lucky bitch. I probably would have just ignored the 3rd visit to the other client but I then noticed the blonde tones in my half damp hair. His assistant was so sweet that when he asked me how I liked it I pretended to be overjoyed with happiness. 3 hours later, 200 less in my wallet and the same blonde hair I left a sad little girl. Although my hair does have dimension, which I love it was basically the same color palette. The only color change you really notice in when I put my hair up in a bun. That’s where my dark color is! Would I return to this salon? Probably not :[ which makes me sad. But with the lack of attention I received from my stylist, and leaving with more«warmth» in my hair than when I walked in, I won’t be back for a second date. *bonus tip* they carry deep into the Oribe hair care line. It’s hard to find a salon that carries that many products. So at least I walked out with at least one thing I liked.

I had the honor of working with Jeff and Tennessee on my wedding day! Jeff did my hair and about 6 others and Tennessee did the makeup, all of which were flawless! They both were an absolute pleasure and my hair and makeup were perfect the entire night. I cannot recommend either of them enough!

this place is amazing. liam carey, my stylist who i went to with a gilt voucher, is amazing. it’s been a month and a half since my hair cut and it’s grown out beautifully since then. but nothing can compare to when he showed me the mirror after he was done. my hair was so beautiful!!! it was perfectly bouncy. the cut was perfect with the waves in my hair. i honestly don’t know how he did, i have never gotten such an amazing hair cut. i got so many compliments after my hair cut. the only thing i will say is that it seems to be some sort of underground salon? the entrance wasn’t very clear, granted it is new york and real estate is limited and it was one of those enter through a door to go up an elevator thing, but their website isn’t very detailed and there’s no number posted online which made me a little apprehensive before going in. however, the atmosphere is beautiful, and the people working there are truly lovely. liam carey is amazing!!!

I have been here a few times as a styling model. Most of the staff came from Ted Gibson salon so there is a similar aesthetic. Both times I have been a model, the instructor was not present the entire time, often taking clients during the class. The styling tended to be feminine and slightly dowdy, not particularly modern and fresh looking. I have curly hair and the salon’s method of styling curly hair seems to be blow it out straight then curl with a curling iron or brush. This method completely ignores the natural curl and usually causes the curls to fall out quickly, since the hair was blown out straight first.

I had contemplating getting color in my hair for years but was just too scared to bite the bullet and put my trust into someone else’s hands that I didn’t know. My mom is a hair stylist and I’ve never had anyone else do my hair so to say I’m picky is an understatement. I made an appointment with Nancy and I was both nervous and excited. I initially thought I wanted a Single process color a few shades lighter than my dark brown hair but she suggested highlights since the maintenance would be easier and less damaging to my hair. Well she was right. She put is a full head of highlights and then hand painted(bayalage) to blend the color in and make it look very natural. Ever since I haven’t been able to stop looking at my hair. I’ve gotten great compliments and I’m only sorry that I didn’t go soon. Sadly she is moving to Australia at the end of the summer so if you want to see her, then I’d advice you to make an appointment soon! So bummed that she’s leaving and ill have to find someone else to maintain her beautiful work.

I went to Dominik and he was a total style saver. I barely ever can justify spending a lot on a haircut since I haven’t changed my long hairstyle in years, but Dominik is such a joy to go to and so proffessional and spot-on in his recommendations. I’m generally lost and want the stylist’s opinion on what to do, but usually get someone who just doesn’t get me or is too timid to go to crazy. I listened to Dominik, LOVE my new style, and am probably going back soon to take him up on his suggestions for some highlights. Love the space and the people!

Seriously $ 150 before tipping for a cut? I have thicker chin length bob. Jeff did a nice job but I wouldn’t say any nicer then a stylist who charges $ 130. I had to return a few hours later since he got the original appointment time confused. This rating is only for the cut and styling. I work only a flew blocks away so I wasn’t too perturbed. But over all the experience did not rate 5 stars.

I love my hair. I hated my hair when I walked in. But now I love my hair with the firey passion of a million buring suns. I told Jeff to make me look prettier and younger and to cut my hair without taking off any actual length… and he did it. Jeff is my new official NYC hairdresser until I die.

I love Jeff! I had BLACKBLACK hair(dyed with like Feria Starry Night for years) and he took me to brown with ombré caramel ends in six months, and all the transition colors looked great as well. I love his cuts– I have slightly wavy hair and he always cuts it in a way that looks great blown out or natural during the hot summer months. Also, I love that he emails me my receipts! And always has lots of good gossip. Highly recommended.

We love Jeff! I have just spent the afternoon before my sister’s rehearsal dinner with Jeff and his curling iron. Not only is he quick and completely professional, but he has exquisite taste and such a cool aesthetic. My younger sister, who has and infamously wild mane, looks fantastic– Jeff knows how to maintain a natural but formal look. I found a picture of Keira Knighley online and Jeff was inspired by the image but also gave me personal attention(he happily cut my bangs too. they’ve never looked better!) and created a chic but loose bun. My mother’s usually stick straight bob is coming to life and the bride herself is thrilled. We have all decided to make Jeff our regular stylist. He obviously really enjoys his work, knows hair, and makes you feel special too. Cannot gush enough over him… did I mention that We love Jeff?

Jeff is the best. Going to anyone else is folly. Do yourself a favor and get in his chair. He’s a steal at any price.

BESTBESTBESTBLOWDRYINTOWN. Jeff knows HAIR and he ONLY does appointments, so book yours now. I was fortunate enough to discover him on Unilocal and he DIDNOTDISAPPOINT. Cute salon, fabulous shampoo and blow-dry, and after I told him that I was wearing a Jackie O. 60’s inspired-dress, he teased my hair and I looked like I was from the Mad Men set. VERYREASONABLE prices and trust me, he is worth much more. **PLEASECHECKOUTMYPICTURE** HIGHLYRECOMMEND for blow drys, hair cuts, and styling.
