My first haircut in the salon was good, but the second haircut is ugly. When I been at salon that was a good, but after I washed my hair at home, I saw a different sides, not the same and every single section was too much different. And no, it’s not a my hairstyle or blow dry fails, because I’m hairstylist too. And I got a Vidal Sassoon and Toni and Guy certifications I do my hairstyle the best. I’m so sorry but the truth is :” the service is great, but I still need to find a new hairdresser ” …

Nobody cuts it like you do. I live in South Jersey but I travel twice a year to get my haircut by Martin. The haircuts are done so precisely that the cuts lasts a long time. So I will see you in the summer Martin. Thanks again‼

This place is ok. I needed some color correction done, and they were able to do a great job — although it cost $ 600. I had a haircut with Flavia and it was great. The main reason I’m not giving such a good review is that after my last color appointment, I was almost in tears from being scolded over and over about not coming in soon and having my hair re-​done (I had lost my job and couldn’t afford it).
On my last visit, I wanted to transition back to a different color, which I have a lot of experience doing myself, did a patch test at home, and decided to go in just to be safe. I was made fun of for «playing hair colorist,» but ironically, her results were very disappointing and I ended up having to redo my color myself at home, which then got the result I wanted.
I am not going back after my last experience — it’s expensive, a bit snotty, and there’s no need to put down clients like that. I am seeing a fantastic colorist and stylist now I found in Chinatown, for the fraction of the price, and my hair has never looked better.

Three weeks ago, I made a huge error in going to the Vidal Sassoon
Salon, located downtown NYC. Michael Foray, who is considered a
Master Haircutter, absolutely ruined my hair, which too begin with, is
very fine & thin… However, the outcome was a disaster !.
Michael, hacked, razored out my hair too the point of insanity !.
When I contacted him the following day, and expressed my,
disapproval with this bizarre uneven haircut… At this point Michael,
refused to refund my money, or attempt to remedy the sad situation.
Therefore, I felt it was necessary to contact the executive offices,
for a refund… So far, I’ve been credited for the haircut, but not the
tip…If you are considering a haircut, do not go to Michael…
In addition, I now wear a base ball cap, when I leave home…

I see Flavia every two months and she is fantastic. Although I have explained to every other hair stylist I’ve ever seen that I do not blow out my hair, Flavia is the only one who styled my hair for a true wash n go cut. I made the plunge to short hair on the last visit and I get so many compliments! She’s awesome and I highly recommend her. Worth every single penny.

I was going to another Sassoon (out of state) for years prior to my visits here. There, I always left my appointments happy and content with the results. I came here twice for an all over single process color.
The first time I was content with the results. The color was exactly what I had done at my other Sassoon visits, but that is because the salon keeps track of the color formula you receive.
Bottom line, the service is really snobby here. It more entertaining to experience such snobbery than displeasing. I may right a book about it when I’m finished with this review. More importantly, after coming here my hair looks bad, just bad. On top of that my hair is now damaged. You can read the full story below if you are interested in what went down.
On my second visit I consulted with the colorist about lightening the color without using bleach. He said that would not be possible without using bleach because I had darker sections that would not take. Makes sense right? However, I could achieve a lighter color with 1) bleach & 2) bleach, highlight or all over form. So I decided to stick with my normal all over color.
He suggested I use some sort of treatment to help lift the remaining darker dye and strip my hair of build up. So I did the treatment. The treatment is called malibu, it made my hair feel squeaky clean and really dry.
When I got back to the chair I was informed that he was going to dye it a shade or two lighter (without bleach).
At this point I was confused because he had just told me that wouldn’t work, but now he was doing it? So I sat back and trusted him thinking that someone with SO much experience would know what they were doing. WRONG.
My hair looked awful once the color was processed. The two inches was a mousey brown color, the next two inches was a dark brown, and the remaining ten inches was somewhere in between the two colors. I informed the colorist that I disliked the results and he gave me options to fix it.
The next two hours were spent applying a high lift tint to the darker section of my hair. That didn’t do much to other than make the top portion of my hair an ugly off yellow color. Then we shampooed and dried it and applied a toner? Not s exactly sure what it was, but it made the ugly yellow portion somewhat darker.
As of then and now I still have an uneven hair color. The top portion is an ugly lighter shade of brown and the rest is two other shades. Additionally, my scalp and hair is incredibly dry. Typically, my hair becomes incredibly oily after the third day of not washing it. Now, I can go a full seven days without washing my hair because it soaks up all the oil. That is how f*****g damaged it is.
I would love to fix this mess, but I am worried I will further damage my hair. Thus, I will be waiting another month or so before I go SOMEWHERE ELSE FAR AWAY FROM THIS SALON FOREVER.
I remained calm throughout this whole debacle knowing that freaking out would get me nowhere. The colorist was pretty calm too, very snobby though. One would think that a senior colorist would be able to sufficiently understand a customers needs based on what they say and then adequately deliver based off of what they can do with the condition of the customers hair. I am not quite sure what happened in between the time that I agreed with the colorist that lightening my hair would not be the best course of action because I didn’t want to use bleach and the time that he decided to lighten my hair color.
In conclusion, I will never return to this salon. I am sure there are people that work here that deliver well, just not the person who I visited… It is unfortunate that I spent $ 110 on a single process color that left my hair discolored, dry, and damaged. Based off of that, you probably should be absolutely positive you want to go here before you waste your money damaging your hair.

Melissa is the best! She’s done everything under the sun to my hair color in the past 2 years, and it always looks fantastic. I’ve had everything from edgy, blood-​red hair to more subtle auburn. It doesn’t matter what look you’re going for, if you give Melissa an idea or two about what you want, she is able to take the baton and mix up your perfect shade. She’s always in a great mood and excited to chat but not so much that she gets distracted. Her #1 focus is always on your hair, and you will always leave looking amazing. (I’ve seriously wondered why so many people were staring at me on 6^th Ave after leaving Sassoon, then I remembered «my hair!»)

Afaf has been coloring my hair for the past couple of years. She is not only a caring individual who listens to her client’s needs, but she produces amazing results. I recently moved to Philadelphia and travel back to NYC just to see Afaf. If you are in need of a new colorist, I highly recommend visiting the downtown location of Sassoon Salon and asking for Afaf!

Wing is a great hair stylist! Gives amazing hair cuts!!! Very clean and neat. 10+ stars to him!
The place is not cheap. The hair cut will cost you anywhere btw $ 125 – 150.
They do offer you drinks on the house and have a shampoo girl (the hair stylist doesn’t wash your hair). Overall a great experience.

Biggest hair mistake ever! Had my color done by the color director, the roots were bright then there was a terrible dark band then a differnt color until the ends, it was awful. I was told he would FIX it whe he returned from vacation and that it wasn’t that noticable and it wasn’t noticeable… in the dark! I went back a few days later to see a senior colorist who said she would make is healthy and shiny and try to get the color to look better. She improved the tone but the band was still there and she told me it would take time becuase she didnt want to use bleach and damage my hair. AGAIN i left with lighter roots, a dark band on top and lighter ends. I got home and my husband asked why my hair was 4 different colors and I was fuming!
Thank god I found someone in my town to fix the mess that Sassoon created, he used backtrack which erased all the color then colored it and its even and fantastic now but I PAID $ 300. TO HAVE IT FIXED, after paying for the color at sassoon, plus $ 55 in two parking trips plus tips… All together i wasted about $ 500!!!
Never again would I ever set foot in sassoon!

My favorite hair salon in NYC! Violet, who does my color, is wonderful. She is so sweet and consistently gets my color right every time. My brown hair tends to grab red (which doesn’t look good on me) but she always manages to get it perfect and natural looking! Pasha does my cut, and I love it everytime! I have very long, thick hair, that is naturally wavy (and a bit frizzy), and she always gives me the perfect cut that suits my hair type… so whether I wear it natural or styled, it always looks great!
I highly recommend Violet and Pasha! The dynamic duo :)

I saw Flavia Matos at Vidal Sassoon on 18^th Street in July after returning from a vacation where my hair got dried out. I don’t get my haircut all that often so it was a big deal making an appointment and I have to say Flavia made me feel so comfortable and she was so sweet and best of all she gave me an excellent haircut. I was really curious if a $ 125 haircut was so much better than the ones I get out in California at random salons and I have to say it was worth it! I would go back to her in a second and with my travel back and forth to NYC I am thinking she would be a great person to continue cutting my hair ever 8 months or so…

I am very particular about my hair so I make sure I do my research before embarking on a new salon. I checked out other reviews on Unilocal and this salon had excellent reviews. I walked in and the receptionist was very pleasant and helpful. She referred me to Flavia who took her time and examined my hair after I showed her a picture of a cut I wanted. I was going from long to short. She executed my cut with perfection. The only thing that sucks is, I’m not from around here. So I guess I’ll have to use this as an excuse to come back often.

I’ve been coming here for about two years now and I love these guys. My usual stylist is Martin but there have been a couple of times when he’s been out of town when I’ve needed a last-​minute cut and Michael has done it instead. And I love them both. Highly recommended. You pay for what you get though — I’d go back far more often if I could afford to! But even saying that they manage to give me great cuts that last for months.
I did try having my color done here once, but it was not good at all. I go elsewhere for that.

I’ve worked with a few stylists/​colorist here, and they’ve all been excellent.
Michael first transformed my hair 5 years ago for a creative cutting seminar. Since then, he’s given me the best haircuts I’ve ever had — the stuff dreams are made of in terms of artistry and ease of wear. He once gave me the most amazing asymmetrical pixie cut, and shaved the back of my neck into a shape that other stylists tell me is impossible to do. Clearly, Michael is magical.
Joe has been doing my color for almost 6 months now. If hair could talk, mine would threaten to leave/​fall out after the next bleach and tone. Yet each time, I walk out with little breakage and minimal damage. My color is also quite even and consistent, which is difficult when going from black to blonde. Joe now works only Mondays at the Downtown salon, and I’m SO excited to follow him to the Uptown salon that is only 1 avenue away from my office.
My experience with Pasha was brief, but memorable. She took such care and detail into a simple trim, and was extremely sweet and pleasant to work with, even though I wasn’t her model. After color, normally an assistant will dry/​finish my hair and leave the ends all crazy and rough. Pasha added some product and a brush and my hair has never been nicer after a color. I always wish that I could get her to finish my hair after every color, and would love to do a creative cut with her!

The salon has everything you would expect in therms of customer service, but I am not blown away by the quality of the haircuts given the price. I’ve been three times and the results were decent, but nothing you can’t accomplish for half the price.

I have gotten my roots bleached here twice before a few years ago and was super happy. This time I left crying.
I got a guy called Muhammed who said he was a manager aswell as a very senior colorist. They started off with treating my very long bleached platinum hair with some sort of preperation. We agreed on just highlighting the roots since my hair is so fine and I said multiple times that Im scared its gonna break. Muhammed said over and over again that he is a very senior person and had done this for years and years.
Well, when I sat by the sink and they rinsed my hair after the bleach, i saw balls of hair just falling out. When i mentioned this, they said it was normal. I have done this for 6 years, and that is not supposed to happen.
When I got to the mirror i my hair lookes extra long so i touched the ends and the hair was litterly just loose, i could gently pull it and everything was just hanging there, lose. I started crying and saying that this is not good. While they tried to dry it, an assistant came over three times behind my back with a broom to sweep away all the hair on the floor and pushed it in to a small room, hiding it. When I talked to the colorist, he said that this was just my imagination and this is normal. If this was normal, i would not have had any hair on my head after years of doing just roots. They cut off 5 inches to make it look thicker and i refused to pay, but Muhammed did not take any of the blame.
This was probably the worst experience I have ever had with a hairdresser and I have talked to high up professionals who have done my hair for years, and they both say that he must have overlapped way too much. I still lose a lot of hair when i wash it and brush it, but I am still trying to save it with very good and expensive hair products.
Stay away. Just wish I knew where I could go where they actually know what they are doing now.

As a child growing up in a tropical country, my aunt used to cut my hair. She was probably enamored with the shape of a coconut* and enamored more with the idea of a coconut with short bangs so she styled my hair that way. It was fine by me until I went to school and realized that my hair will never make me popular in school. That is why I forgive myself during those times that I find myself acting odd. I blame it on the traumatic hair cut I received as a child. :)
There is no trauma to be had though, getting a hair cut from Michael of Sassoon Salon. He expertly wields the scissors and does not rely on instilling fear on any client. My preferences were clearly heard by him and adhered to. As a result of the confidence-​building, I allowed him to cut my hair at its shortest. The receptionist or manager (not sure which), I mean the blond lady with the pixie hair cut handles the reception area extremely well. She was very professional and efficient. I got zero attitude at this salon and I am happy to say I look forward to being back. If only my aunt learned to cut hair from this place. :)

I’ve been having my hair colored by Mellissa and I cannot say enough great things about my color. I went from almost black to a soft very light blonde without any hiccups. Beautiful subtle color that is with no hint of yellow or brassiness. I get a lot of compliments and feel great about the way I look!

Since moving to NYC I’ve tried so many different hair stylists via Unilocal,via recommendations from friends and while all the cuts have been just fine, I found myself missing the cut that actually suited my face and hair (meaning, I wouldn’t be left with something I’d have to style). My hair has to be low maintenance. Get up, maybe blow dry the front and I’ve got to be done. A few flashbacks to cuts I’d gotten from Sassoon-​trained stylists in my teenage years later, I wound up at this 18^th street outpost.
Salon director, Victoria was delightful and quick — there was no theatrics around taking hours and hours laboring over a look that wouldn’t last. She listened to what I was after, instinctively «got» my hair, and got on with the job.
I left with super-​soft, easy-​to-​manage, healthy hair. And a smile. I’ll be back.
Oh, if you need a coffee, their cappuccinos are delicious. Surprisingly delicious. (Save your cash and skip Starbucks.) The salon also sells Davines products, which are tricky to find in NYC.

The best part about his hair cuts is they grow out BEAUTIFULLY. He pays so much attention to detail and also knows how to work with hair of all textures. He is very open minded and will help you achieve the look you want.
I can’t tell you how many compliments I get on my hair. I wear it paper straight somedays and others big and 70’s. His cuts allow your hair versatility.
