When your relative is an optometrist, you get pretty spoiled and so I didn’t have the foresight to schedule an appointment until I was actually on vacation. I called a few places and most were booked past my week of vacation. Dr. Stigge’s staff squeezed me in thankfully. Initially I thought Dr. Stigge was a man of few words, which was fine as long as I get a thorough eye exam. Once we got to chatting, ends up he’s a funny, sweet doctor and actually made my cousin look like a lazy optometrist! His staff was polite and friendly. He was great and very accommodating. The total for an exam for contact lenses and glasses was $ 131. He sent me home with two trial pairs of contacts prescriptions to see which I preferred. Two heads up for the Unilocal community. 1) Dr. Stigge puts the contacts in your eyes for you. I’m sure if I told him no, he would have let me put in my own contacts, but the midwest sure is great about customer service. Maybe it’s a Kansas thing. Maybe it’s a Dr. Stigge thing. I’m not sure. 2) His office has a retro-chic thing going for it. Dr. Stigge’s dad was the initial practice owner so some of the lime green equipment from the 70’s may look old, but really how often do you need to change out the chin rest? Anyhoo, I’d recommend Dr. Stigge to anyone looking for an optometrist in Manhattan.
