What a friendly group of folks! My friend and I stumbled upon this place on our way to the Kati Roll company and we decided to share the wealth and eat at both places for lunch. The Dal Wagon serves food that’s much different from your typical halal chicken and rice food. It’s pretty much street Indian food which is very tasty. The guy asked us what we wanted(Vegetarian or non-vegetarian platter) and just made a plate that was appropriate considering we were ordering food without knowing what it was or what it would look at. He even gave us a free sample of their chicken kabob. I told them it was called Koobideh and they looked at me like I was speaking a foreign language(oops, Koobideh is actually Persian). it was very good. When we expressed concerns about being too full to have a huge plate or wanting a small portion, he just said fine and he made a smaller portion for less money. Upon leaving we also got a taste of their Puri. It was like a fried roti or pita with lentils inside. For Midtown, the food was fast, flavorful and a bargain.

I absolutely LOVE the puri bhaji! Sometimes I just gotta make the trek over there even if it’s raining! It’s cheap, fresh and delicious! If you are not sure about which side to go with it, he can give you a mix. Friendly guy… sometimes line gets long but it’s worth the wait! Am not sure about the other items he carries since I only get this one… love

walked by & my friend immediately recognized the cart as being featured somewhere in the past! they’re known for their Puri Bhajji of which you can get 2 for $ 3 or 4 for $ 5! —-basically a nice crispy fried indian bread served w/curried potatoes that you can load inside! i was definitely a fan of this CHEAP& greasy snack! & my indian friend approved as well. its a perfect pairing w/a small kati roll from Kati Roll close by
