Jason’s email is another example of misleading the reader and not covering all the issues. This is not good business practice and this company continues to ruin the experience of tourists and visitors alike to NY. I will not get into a running commentary. We will see Toshi Apartments(Smart Apartments) in small claims court. I have had a number of other individuals thank me for my earlier comments. Toshi Apartments eventually settled out of court thus inferring we were correct.

I booked an apartment located at 454 W 57th Street, 4th floor. I would not say do not book here, but if you do, you should be aware and know what to expect. — the apartment was dirty. The bathroom was just clean enough… It was impossible to close some windows. So it is unsafe and noisy. However the picture on the website are awesome !!! — we had a wireless connection that did not work. I called them 4 times. Finally the last day of our stay the connection was working. — Some of the key we had, did not work. — I was very disappointing because I paid $ 2400 for 7 days(6 people) !!! I expected a better service. The only good point is the location. It is very close to Central Park and it is cheaper than an hotel !

Beware! The service is absolutely useless. My experience with toshi so far: After living in their apartment over 1 month and listening to one bad excuse after the other they still hadn’t fixed the hot water in the shower. Fixing it took around 2 weeks and meant having filthy floors from workmen that didn’t bother to take their boots off or tidy their shit up. The heating also didn’t work for the first 3 weeks. After having to physically go to their office(phoning them was pointless) we were given electrical heaters to keep us warm. A random young guy with his girlfriend turns up at 2 am Sunday night with a key to our apartment and claims he heard we had water problems(this is a month after our water was fixed). After that, toshi changed the locks. We have time and time again asked to speak to the manager, but this has not yet happened. I do have something good o say also. The apartments are very nice modern and clean. But I would not recomend toshi to anyone who doesn’t want to waste their time in New York on a company that doesn’t know how to solve problems.

If you are into staying in a condo rather than a hotel, this is your place. Well located with properties all over Manhattan and Brooklyn, this place is well priced, CLEAN, and furnished with familiar IKEA stuff. However, with no parking, no concierge, no daily room cleaning this place is best suited to independent travellers. I stayed here with one other person, in the building on Driggs Ave — the same building as the check-in. Because we got the last minute special, for $ 150 we had a room that could accommodate up to 6 people(3 double beds). The room was more of a small condo, with glass patio doors and curtains separating the«rooms.» Upsides — clean, no bedbugs, location in Brooklyn and Manhattan. Downsides — having to pay 50% deposit up front, the rest in cash up front, and facing the Williamsburg bridge meant for noisy sleeps(who goes to NYC to sleep though!).
