Pretty average food, tried it, the lunch buffet was good but very spicy. Also got the shrimp lo mein which was sub-par. Probably would go back for the buffet when I was in the mood to cheat and consume all that bad but oh so good food.

A solid choice for Chinese and take out food. My personal favorite is the Hot and Sour Soup — I use to have it in New York and could never find it prepared the same way here in Massachusetts — one place I went to insulted the soup by using Tabasco Sauce that was floating on the top — However, Cheng-Du reunited me with the soup that I use to love in New York. It is thick, loaded with flavor, and a style that is authentic to Hot and Sour Soup. The food is consistently good quality and they have a robust take out business. The food is not greasy and always served hot and with generous portions. The Crab Ragoon is not bad — but not the best in town(Quans has that locked). The selections are good and they are always adaptable to include or substitute ingredients if you ask. The bar is next to the restaurant seating area — but is blocked off by a wall and contains the noise that you would normally here. The restaurant maintains a classy look to it with linens and tableware — and one of the few places with cloth napkins. Sonny is the owner and is often there and has been a staple in the community and not shy to share about his family and children. If you are not happy with something — he is the first to make it right. Very attentive and wants people to enjoy the food and the experience while there. The menu has not changed much over the years and does not offer lighter appetizer or food options — nor experiments much with seasonal items or new menu features. A solid place for a good meal and friendly atmosphere.

The Chinese food is delicious, probably the best in the area; you can pretty much order anything at Cheng-Du and you will enjoy a fabulous meal. Unfortunately, the service is mediocre at best and leaves much to be desired. While we were seated immediately(because we had reservations), our party of 6 was not acknowledged by a waiter for 15 minutes, and then after drinks were ordered, we were not re-acknowledged to give our dinner order for another 15 minutes. The drinks themselves came AFTER appetizers were served — maybe 25 minutes later! The entrée portion came out in a very strange and staggered way, so that not everyone was able to eat at the same time(we each encouraged one another not to wait because we had no idea how much longer we would have to wait for the other entrees). Drink refills had to be begged for. The worst part was that the waiter was short, rushed and stingy with the smiles. I would return to Cheng Du, but not with a large party. They didn’t seem to be able to handle a table of 6. I also got the sense this was a «townie» place and the staff was doting on the regulars, which is charming if you are one of the said regulars, but underwhelming when you are not. Beware: the drinks are served in festive and funny glasses, but they are very small, and you are getting very little actual drink.

This is one of my all time favorite places. The food is phenomenal. Everything is made fresh and if you like crab rangoons then this is the place to be. The are homemade and out of this world. The owner Sonny is one of the nicest guys I know. He makes you feel at home and like an old friend. I would strongly recommend trying this place out. Guaranteed you will not be disappointed.

Food was fine, service was past horrible last night. We waited at least 15 or 20 minutes for drinks, which we finally got after my husband waved at the bar.

Went here for dinner tonight and it was disgusting. The food had literally gone bad as in past its date and you can taste it bad. I have never had worst food in my life. Sorry but you should stay away from here.

Went for family day a couple weeks ago, we went because one of the kids is Gluten Free and they have many GF options. I got the buffet and it had a nice variety and was warm without being dried out and overheated. While I found the food good I was way underwhelmed by the staff, never even asked us if we wanted something to drink, never came to see how we were doing, and just pretty much rude. I would go again, but I won’t be rushing back there anytime soon.

Sorry to say that our most recent visit was less than what we expected. Saturday night with a few open tables the poor/slow service wasn’t from them being swamped. We had to flag down the waiter multiple times and he seemed annoyed by us interrupting what ever he was doing. Waiter got our order for ‘Boned’ ribs wrong and brought boneless which he was slow in correcting. My wife ordered the Crispy Peking Noodles that was suppose to Pan-fried noodles topped with shrimp, scallops, poke, ham, mushrooms and mixed vegetables, served in a ginger-garlic sauce and that gave no indication that it would have sugar added which the ginger sauce had trouble overcoming. My wife searched in vain for the for the shrimp & scallops and found instead beef slices where sent the dish back and to our disbelief they brought back the same dish that by that time she was no longer hungry having helped me eat my Sizzling Shrimp Platter which was very good. We had them pack up her dish and this morning I confirmed that that what they presented was something other than what she ordered. I can understand a busy restaurant can sometime mix up dishes but when you send it back only have them disrespect you by bringing the same wrong order back is inexcusable.

Fantastic! Best Chinese food in southeastern Massachusetts! Sonny, the owner and bartender is one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet. Sit at the bar, have a Mia Tia and enjoy!

Impressed with the food and was impressed with the service — except for one time. The crab rangoons were definitely awesome, probably some of the best I’ve had. But the first time I called(and swore I’d never order here again because of it) I spoke to a very hurried woman, who I asked if they had something, and she angrily replied«Do you want to call back?» I couldn’t believe how rude she was the entire time we spoke. The delivery person, a middle aged gentleman, however was extremely nice. I’ll be trying out some other places in the area before I call them again though.

Per our friendly waitress, all their foods are cooked without MSG or artificial flavoring. The teriyaki beef appetizer was beefy. General Gao chicken was also meaty and flavorful.

Best crab Rangoon in Mass. ! Real crab. Honestly, they use fresh ingredients & food is so good. Best Mai tais… and being from Boston, best drink around. Love this place, & Sonny… the owner. You’ll leave here happy!

I live within walking distance to Cheng Du so I eat here frequently. I’ve never ordered take out from them. I always dine in the dining room. I like the atmosphere with the dimmer lighting, and the waitstaff are always pleasant and prompt. I always order the same: chicken fingers, fried rice, crab rangoons, and pot stickers. It’s all yummy, but I’m not sure it’s any better than any other Chinese food I’ve ever had. To be honest, the crab rangoons aren’t my favorite, but I still order them every time! It’s a good, quick dinner out on a weekend, and I’ve never had to wait for a table. I wouldn’t seek Cheng Du out if I didn’t live close by, but it’s an easy place within walking distance.

This is one of the worst meals out I have had in a long time. I have Celiac disease, so I was excited to find another Chinese place with a ton of GF options. We were happy to see that the menu was just as extensive as we had heard online, and chose the veggie spring roll appetizer, Chicken Chow Foon, and General’s chicken. The first huge red flag was when we ordered the Spring Rolls, CLEARLY marked gluten free on the menu, and the waiter goes«Spring rolls?! No, no, I don’t think so.» Excuse me? Wouldn’t you think that at a restaurant that claims to offer so many GF options the waiters would be fully trained in which menu items are gluten free? After he checked and confirmed that the spring rolls were in fact GF, he brought them out with a pitcher of duck sauce. We asked him if the duck sauce was GF and he looked at us like we had 10 heads and said in an appalled voice, «I don’t know.» Honestly shocking. The Chicken Chow Foon came out first — and by first I mean 25 minutes before the other dish. When two people order one entrée each, it would be nice if they could come out at least SOMEWHAT close to one another. The noodles of the chow foon were ok, but the chicken was awful. Shiny, chewy, and I had to spit out a few pieces because they were filled with cartilage. When the General’s chicken finally came out, we were so hungry that we dug right in. The chicken did not taste like chicken. Stringy and chewy — disgusting. We cut into one of the pieces and noticed that it was brownish purple. We had to completely stop eating it. After we were done eating, we put our silverware down and kept trying to make eye contact with the waiter so he would come over and bring us the bill. Our plates were empty and we were clearly done eating. We were ACTIVELY trying to flag him down and it took him 20 minutes to come to the table. When he got there, instead of apologizing for the delay, he said«You should have put your silverware on top of your plate so I knew you were done.» What??? My boyfriend had his credit card out on the table waiting for the bill, and the waiter just grabbed his card and walked away with it – we hadn’t even seen the bill! He was gone for 10 minutes with the card, an uncomfortable amount of time when someone has your credit card and you haven’t even seen your bill. He FINALLY came back with the bill and card, and as he leans down to put it on the table, he spills a glass of wine all over the table. I know that this isn’t his fault necessarily, but it was still a very negative way to end an already awful experience. To top it off, he brought over fortune cookies after we told him 10 times we needed to eat gluten free. Seriously, do not go here. Mandarin Taste in Sharon is only 15 min away from there and has tons of GF options too and I have never had a bad experience there. EDIT: I believe the waiter’s name was Pei.

Very good food, fresh, tasty, and good portions. However, it comes at a price, as this place is rather expensive for Chinese. The interior décor is plane, nothing special. I’ve had just as good Chinese at other restaurants for less money. However, if money is not an issue for you, and you’re not looking to impress a date or your wife, this is a good place for you.

If you love Chinese food but have a gluten allergy, this is the place to go. I would recommend the General Gao’s Chicken over the Beef and Broccoli.

I have always been a big fan of Cheng Du. I don’t love Chinese food in general so it might sound odd for me to say I love this restaurant. The food here is so good and much better quality than your traditional Chinese restaurant, so this is my one exception. I love going to «The Du». To start with, they seriously have the BEST crab rangoons I’ve ever had. No exaggeration. I judge all other rangoons against these and none have ever matched up. They also have unique offerings like crispy dry sauteed chicken wings or shrimp. SO delicious! I go here whenever I have the chance to enjoy a Mai Tai and some absolutely delish food. If you are in the Mansfield area and need a place to grab a bite to eat, give Cheng Du a chance. You will not be sorry!

The Pad Thai here is great. However, the manager/owner was very confrontational with me when a delivery order I had was incorrect. We did not receive an item, and I called telling them this, and rather than accommodating me, the person I spoke to told me I did not order what I claimed(I always order the same, Pad Thai, Calamari), and basically implied I was a liar. It is mind boggling how a person in this industry and just be so blatantly aggressive and confrontational with a regular customer. When I went to pick up the food they forgot(as the delivery driver would take an hour to get to me this lady told me), she then proceeding to argue with me in front of the customers! Could not believe it. Although they have good food, their inability to deal with problems that may pop up(which I am sure can be very common in the industry) has caused me to not patronize them any longer.
