Great fresh bagels straight from the oven. They have a lot of cream cheese so ask for a tiny bit of cream cheese

Amazing. There’s a reason this place has been in business so long. Delicious, jersey bagels that don’t skimp on the cream cheese. It can be hard to find a place to sit but Maplewood is such a lovely town, if it’s nice out, sit outside! Definitely worth stopping in.

Nice place but the bagels were just ok. I think I could have gone to Dunkin Donuts and had a comparable bagel. Best bagel I’ve had yet in NJ is at Golberg’s.

Been coming here pretty regularly since I moved to Maplewood about a year ago. The bagels are top notch and the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The one thing they are missing is a «Super Egg» bagel. For those that aren’t familiar, a super egg is an egg bagel with everything topping. I joked occasionally with the owner when he would be debuting the«Super Egg». He would always joke that he is still perfecting the recipe. Today I walk in and he tells me he has made two«Super Egg» bagels just for me(had to share one with my gf, she is also a fan). It was probably the best«Super Egg» bagel I have ever had. I have seen similar personal attention with other customers and really appreciate them taking the time to connect with their patrons. If you try them out make sure to ask about their«Super Egg»

Good for breakfast and always busy. Very good bagels with lots of choices of toppings, deli style food. Place could use a little clean up. You go up to the counter/showcases place your order and then hope to get your food in a reasonable time. There are a number of tables to sit at

Close to NYC in terms of distance and so far in terms of bagel quality — Ordering felt rushed and there was a lack of friendliness I expect in a local bagel shop. The food was satisfactory. I would return if I did not want to travel for better quality.

I came by on a weekday afternoon for a late-ish lunch. I saw the prices on the board and just shrugged — a bit expensive for bagels but not really Manhattan expensive. I was just hoping that it would taste better than the regular donut and coffee chain or the frozen bagels I have at home. I ordered a toasted sesame bagel with vegie cream cheese to stay and also a small fruit salad. Oh boy, did that man dress up my plate! He threw on chips and a pickle. Now, I know if I like a bagel by the first bite and that first bite did beat my expectations. But did it match up to my expectation of a Manhattan deli? No sorry it didn’t. The fruit salad was made of ripe fruit and was delicious though. What I wanted was a crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside toothsome bagel with a salty but«healthy» vegie cream cheese experience. Bagel Château’s bagel was toothsome but somehow needed more oomph — maybe it really is that NYC water that makes the difference! The cream cheese was probably the regular unsalted neutral kind(that would be good on a cinnaraisin), mixed with handcut vegies which was a detail I appreciated. My total bill came out to under $ 7 so I’m not mad at all, since I was craving a bagel. I can see why the middle school and high school kids might go for a slice instead of a bagel after school though. I think I will need to try the everything bagel extra toasted with scallion cream cheese next time. I think that would improve the crusty chewy bite and add in more salt. Or I could have put the chips in the middle of my sandwich, but I was acting shy. Will definitely come back again and give it another chance to bump up a star.

Best hard-packed cream cheese around here. The bagels are great, and you can get everything seasoning in a shaker if you order it in advance.

Love the bagels here! Crispy on the outside and nice and chewy! Good, efficient service and they have fresh ingredients.

Food is ok but I feel like I’m on a cattle line when waiting toniest food. When I do get to order feel like I’m shouting over to a faceless person who is likely getting my order. Way too small, way too just, for ok food. Prices are above average. I drive a bit further to the next town for amazing bagels. Btw, parking is impossible on the weekend!

I don’t understand how one bagel château can be so different from the other. The staff is pretty rude and the bagels are way too bready. Not the worst bagels but there’s so many better options.

I’ve been a loyal Bagel Château customer for as long as I can remember. Still can’t understand how anyone can have just one bagel per sitting, but I won’t judge. The staff is friendly and familial, the bagels and cream cheese are delicious, and, though I’ve never been so adventurous as to order one of their famous sandwiches(e.g. Taylor Ham, etc.) I’ve heard nothing but good things. I’m happy I moved back from California whenever I have a bagel from here.

Anyone that rates this place more then one star really has NO idea what bagels taste like. Being a New York native, who has lived in various parts of the world, I can’t understand how these people can not even come close to a NY bagel. Their bagels taste good if your were to buy it in the midwest or south, or anywhere outside of the USA, but to be so close to NYC and have such a bad bagel(Taste is meh, Consistency is off, etc) is unimaginable in Maplewood, which is full of NYC ExPats and NYC commuters. I write this review to BEG and PLEAD with the owners to please go to NYC and compare, even mediocre, bagels to yours and please improve your quality. I WOULDLOVE to buy good bagels in my backyard, but seems it is currently not possible

Not bad. In a land that bagel shops are plentiful, this does stand out above the rest. It gives you the normal hole-in-the wall feeling with decent options and food. The bagels are good, nice and crispy with a soft inside, however they’re only good fresh. By the next day they’re rock hard. Their everything bagel is a solid choice and full of lots of flavor. Unfortunately they’re very salty. As a breakfast sandwich they’re great and the definitely give you a lot of cream cheese if thats your order and their options are very well made. We also stopped in for lunch and weren’t too impressed. My wife had a bologna sandwich on a bagel which was good, however my tuna sandwich on a roll which left little to e desired. Their tuna salad was way too much mayo and not too flavorful. Overall I’d have to say this is a great breakfast choice but not much for anything else. The only real drawback is that it is pretty pricey for what you get.

Our go to place for bagels. We usually take out as it has limited seating and on the weekend it is packed. They have everything from bagel platters to eggs and everything in between. Great for the kids and very friendly staff.

As a recent arrival from Brooklyn, I had hoped to find a bagel to remind me of home at Bagel Château. Alas, they’re a little too breadlike, not dense enough for me. I wish they were like my NYC bagels. But that’s ok. Because they’ve got attitude and I will take one of their egg sandwiches on 7grain bread or a Flat bagel any day of the week. The coffee is pretty dang decent: no frills but tasty. The guy taking orders is serious about them, reminds me of a bagel guy I’ve seen in the heart Brooklyn, in fact I learned at a later visit that he IS from Brooklyn! YAY! I like the crowd variety there, too. The customers range from families to high school kids to couples to older gentlemen reading the paper to tables full of middle-aged dudes shooting the breeze. I am a fan.

These Bagels suck. Toooooo soft not the right consistency at all. There is no crust crunch or whatever. And they are salty as I don’t know what.

For a NY standard, their bagel is inferior. Texture is off, and taste is off. Too dense and rubbery.

I would consider moving back to Jersey just for this. I loved this place. Best bagel sandwiches I ever had. Taylor, egg, and cheese? Yes, please. I tried(in vain) to replace this place when I moved back to Seattle. Didn’t happen. Seattle tries to hard to do «healthy» and«gourmet». They miss the point completely. I’m pretty sure I shaved a couple years off of my life by eating here too much. It was worth it.
