Have lived in Maplewood over 35 years. Have ordered food from here probably over 100 times. Always satisfied and staff is more than friendly. Hope they never leave.

After eating ordering from here for 15 years + I have decided to sever all ties. I ordered delivery from there today after 90 minutes my food still had not arrived. I called them to cancel the order and in since I paid with a card they said I would receive a cash refund if I walked down. Once i got there they made me wait 20 minutes for the manager to get there and«refund me personally out of her purse» once she got there I was still denied a refund. At this point I am in the process of filing a claim with my bank account. I have never felt so disrespected by any establishment let alone a place where I’m a semi regular customer at.

It’s a chinese take out joint that’s pretty much the best option in the area.

My friend and I decided our«cheat meal» was going to be Chinese so we ordered delivery from Bill and Harrys. This is not my favorite Chinese delivery, but she convinced me that it was the best. I ordered chicken and broccoli. It was delivered in 65 minutes(that’s fine, the ETA was 45 – 60 minutes). As we excitingly opened our food I realized that my chicken and broccoli came PLAIN. no sauce. I’ve NEVER even heard of such a thing from a Chinese restaurant?! We thought that it must have been delivered to the wrong place because it seemed like a specific order. So we called and explained ourselves and they said that we had to come in and exchange it. That literally defeats the purpose of delivery when it’s 0 degrees out. They did not offer a refund or an apology but made us go exchange it in person for the food that we ordered. Perfect.

Although their name would never indicate as such, Bill & Harry’s is actually a pretty solid and reliable take-out only Chinese restaurant. Unfortunately, there is a serious dearth of quality Chinese food spots in the SOMA area(that’s South Orange/Maplewood, for all those not in the know), so when I discovered B&H, I was pleased. Don’t be fooled, there is nothing fancy about this place or their food, but like I said, it’s solid. You need dumplings? No prob. Cold sesame noodles? Got you. Beef or chicken with broccoli? General Tso’s? Moo Shu Pork? Fuggetaboutit! All the usual suspects and repeat offenders of the Americanized Chinese food syndicate are here. If you are a Chinese food snob or have a specific palate for it only(Cantonese, Hunan, Szechuan, etc.), you may be disappointed here. However, if you just need a fix, they’ve got you covered.

I was leery to try them because of the very nonAsian name. But I’m glad I did! They deliver to Maplewood and are pretty good! Everywhere else in the immediate SOMA area has been pretty bad for Chinese. Only tried the spare ribs – good and not totally skimpy on the meat and full of red dye – and the pork fried rice – the small was very filling and tasty. Next time I want to try something else, but if I do get the fried rice again I’m going to size up to a large and fry an egg into the leftovers for breakfast the next morning mmMmmmMMmmMmmMMMMmmm.

Called in an order, waited 35 minutes, never received my food. Service has been increasingly poor and I will never come back again.

Walked to back parking lot, couldn’t believe my eyes!!! I’d never ever eat here again. How are they in business & no health code officials to shut this down. Fish on a wire hanger. I couldn’t believe my eyes!

This place becomes better and better, the more you try other area places. We initially moved on after one or two orders, but it seems to have improved in our eyes after exhausting nearly every other place around. This is now our staple, unless we decide to venture out further to a sit down place. Definitely cleaner, fresher, and a little less heavy.

Overall, very good Chinese food. Only downside is that it’s slightly pricey.

Best Chinese take out in the area. Quality. And not as greasy and salty as a typical Chinese take out. People that are saying«bland» are probably just used to the msg encrusted garbage you normally get from Chinese take out. Reading these bad reviews is infuriating because many of them are complaining about flukes. Late delivery, cold food… They’ve only recently started delivery through an outside service. I always pick up. And it’s always hot and fresh. Someone actually gave one star because they didn’t open on time for lunch! They didn’t even eat try the food! I’ve never had a problem with service or anyone who worked there being anything less than perfect. If they gave you an attitude it was probably because youre stuck up and they don’t want your business.(They don’t need it, plenty of loyal customers like me.) Recommendations… Shrimp with spicy tea sauce, Singapore Mei Fun, shredded pork with garlic sauce, best wontons around.

Easily the best chinese takeout that I have ever had and also the sole reason why my boyfriend refuses to eat chinese takeout from anywhere else, regardless what city or state that we are currently in ! Bill & Harry’s offers chinese takeout at the gourmet level. The food is always extremely fresh and seasoned to perfection. We order pretty much the same things all the time: Beef & Broccoli, Chicken Lo Mein, Chicken Fried Rice, and Sesame Chicken. All of which are extremely good !! My boyfriend is the kind of chinese food eater that never ordered any meat that he couldn’t readily identify; meaning that the only meat he would order from a Chinese place was chicken wings. But from Bill&Harry’s everything is repersentative of what it describes, he Beef&Broccoli tastes like the beef that you would chop up and make stew with at home. We love it, I guarantee that you will love it ! They offer very limited delivery through a company called Deals4Meals. But if you do not live within a couple blocks of the establishment, you cannot benefit from the delivery service. We call ahead, and within 15 – 20 minutes our food is ready. And takeout means takeout, you will not find a single table in this walk in and order at the counter establishment. So if your planning to have Bill&Harrys, plan to have somewhere to take it and enjoy its deliciousness, even if it’s just the nearby park :)

Hideous, stale, tasteless«Chinese» food — far worse than your average store-front take-out dump. Scallion pancakes were bone dry and tough as leather, with about two shreds of scallions in evidence. Dumplings must have been leftovers, reheated in a crematorium. They were absolutely inedible. The much-touted crispy chicken, the house special, didn’t come close to being crispy. They should call it soggy chicken. On the plus side, I will say that some of the vegetables in this dish were actually fresh. If you must order from this place, if there are no other options, I would suggest the pork chow fun. It was passable. So was a string bean dish. But the best advice I can give you is to try somewhere else.

I’m a little disappointed in this place. The food had been consistently mediocre lately. The owners who were once so friendly don’t seem to be so happy these days. Maybe it’s me and not them? Naw, it’s definitely them. Need a new Chinese spot.

Food is okay — bland and nothing to write home about. But it’s their poor customer service that drives this rating to the ground. Never again We had over $ 40 in gift certificates that were not honored as they were 6 months old. Really — No thanks Bill & Harry’s I can find plenty of mediocre chinese locally.

Extremely disappointed. After reading the review and I decided to try. I called soon as 11:30am on Saturday when the place supposed to open. No one answered. I drove by to see if number is wrong, pitch dark and no one there. I waited another 15 minutes finally someone picked up the phone. I asked«are you open?». The guy on the phone saids no one here and place will not be opened for another 30 minutes, he says«my workers are late, must be stuck in the traffic.» It was almost 12pm. He said call back in about 30 minutes. What kind of establishment which is not open on prime lunch time? unlikely I will try this place again.

I had the WORST experience here. I’ve ordered a few times, but the last two times have been the worst… DONOTORDERFROMHERE! This time I ordered dumplings(pretty good, crunchy on one side, although very doughy overall), orange chicken, and general tso’s chicken. The chicken had been definitely been sitting out for quite a while — that was obvious. It was cold, the sauce congealed, and hard as a rock. I called the restaurant to ask for a refund/new delivery, but they said they were closing. I said that wasn’t acceptable, but they said they would give me a full refund if I brought it back the next day. I brought it back and waited 15 minutes for the owner’s wife to show up — because he didn’t know how to process a refund on the credit card machine. Then she only gave me $ 24 of my $ 37 back because I had eaten the dumplings(fair), but she charge me the delivery fee, all the tax, and the tip I gave to the driver before I knew I was accepting DISGUSTING food. The man was nice but his wife was rude and refused to hear me out. These people are stingy and dishonest to their word — and they serve food that has been sitting out for hours. I will NEVER return.

The food is not flavorful but they do use quality meat. I was also expecting a a sit down restaurant and it was strictly take-out.

After power returning to our area we decided to try this take out establishment while shopping locally and after seeing all the good reviews we were excited for a new Chinese food experience! We ordered chicken with broccoli, orange beef, 2 egg rolls and a wonton soup(other reviews indicated good choices). I wonder if this was an off week considering the storm? Portions were small and lacked flavor. In fact, the only flavor that wasn’t lacking was the overwhelming taste of rancid oil. However staff was friendly and warm.
