Panda gets one star from me for its proximity: I live very closeby. It gets another star, because I’ve learned which dishes aren’t completely horrible, and because their employees are generally pretty friendly, once you get past their brusque exterior. So yes, there are a few dishes that are decent enough: the pork egg rolls aren’t bad, the house special egg foo young is good for what it is(there’s a decent amount of shrimp in it, if that’s your thing), my husband is fond of the garlic spareribs, and I like their cold sesame noodles despite my better judgment. A warning: DONOT order their scallion pancakes. They’re probably some of the worst that I’ve ever eaten at a Chinese restaurant. I even ordered them multiple times to make certain, and yup: simply awful every single time. Oh, and a few hints: — when you order food to go, it’s always 10 minutes. Maybe 15, if they’re really backed up. — $ 20 in food gets you free cans of soda. $ 25 gets you a 2 liter.(Personally, I’d rather have 2 cans than 2 liters.)

Another solid Chinese takeout. Note that the shared parking lot is pretty small and busy. The owners seem friendlier than other takeouts in Union. There are three stools and a long table along the window and a booth seat if you’re going to wait for your order. Roast Pork Chow Fun($ 7.25): Pretty good and flavorful. I usually buy it from Hunan on Springfield Ave., but I liked the food here. There wasn’t that much pork, but the large container was filled with plenty of noodles. Bean Curd Sichuan Style($ 7.45): Large chunks of tofu and crisp vegetables. The sauce isn’t that spicy, but it isn’t salty either. As for the tofu, it had just the right amount of sourness. It comes with a small box of rice. Some items are pricier compared to other takeouts, while others are cheaper. Do yourself a favor and call in advance, especially in the evening hours. The food comes out pretty quick but I’d rather limit myself to pick up – the neighborhood sucks.

Curry shrimp should be called curry onions — as there is a whole onion and 5 baby shrimp in a pint.
