This story begins, as all the best do, at the begins of a road trip. A few of my best friends from college and I had just had out first day of driving, we were headed to New York. After around 8 hours of driving it was 1:00am. We were all soooo tired. Having had to stop at some small town we decided to find a hotel. There was some big event there so we couldn’t find a single one. Having run low on gas we had to stop at a parking lot. There was a liquor store right across from the parking lot we were in and one thing led to another. I don’t remember much after that, there were only a few bits of memories that I could recall. The first one was us deciding to get more gas and drive to the next town over. Maplewood. The location of the infamous Denny’s. *we had a designated driver*(thanks Shannon). The second one I could barely recall was us then being unable to find hotel again for the same reason. That my friends is were Denny’s come in to play. I was told later by Shannon that that is where she gave the executive decision for us to stop at the Denny’s parking lot to spend the night. With in 2 minutes half of us were passed out. The next morning We all woke up with huge hangovers and no clue were we were.(again thanks Shannon for filling us in). Then the manager invited us in and gave us all coffee, not complementary. We were invited to stay there as long as we needed. Soon the store opened only a few customers came in. After 1 hour of opening we see someone how looks like Stevie Nicks come in. She is immediately seated, we decide to send someone I’ve to see if it really was her. I see Elle and her chat for a while, then she motions to us to come over. And it was indeed Stevie Nicks! She tells us a long story of how she ended up there, I was to hungover to remember most of it. We then tell her ours. After another half hour we got hungry so decided to order something. The food came cool after a long time waiting. It was quite dry. Sub par dining experience, but we meet Stevie Nicks! So in all it ended up being a good story, but I will not be eating here again. Good atmosphere though.

It’s been well over a decade since the last time I ate at a Denny’s. I went to this one because it was near to where I was at the time. I got the California Club Sandwich. The guts of the sandwich are good. The bread’s flavor completely overpowers the filling, so I took it off in order to better enjoy the meal. That was a great improvement. This sandwich would be excellent if it were on a plain wheat or sourdough. or even a rye. The loaded fries were the accompaniment and they aren’t worth the extra calories. They were ok. To me, anything that’s «loaded» should be much better than average or ok. If I’m going in for the calorie kill, it better be worth it. The service here was great — I had take-out. The young lady was helpful, friendly and quick. She also made sure that I had utensils and ketchup in the bag, which was nice. I seem to forget to look for those things until I’m long gone from the place. I joined Denny’s rewards, so I think that try them again. I do have to say that I’m glad that they got their racial discrimination problems in check. This is one of the reason’s why I refused to enter their establishments in the past.

Oh Hell NO! One star because I cannot give fewer than that. So recently, Mrs. Carnivore and I set out to have a late breakfast at Denny’s, due to something they call«pancake puppies,» which are balls of fried pancake batter dusted in cinnamon and sugar, and served with maple syrup. These were dry, but not bad. Denny’s does not have real butter. This will now end the pleasant portion of the review. I understand Denny’s is not in the«fine dining» category, so my expectations were not extraordinarily high. I do feel that stopping into a national chain restaurant that specializes in fast and cheap in the very early afternoon should not be cause for major difficulties. Mrs. Carnivore and I were seated, our beverage order taken, our meal order taken, and then the waiting began. Then the waiting continued. I observed plates of food being set up on the shelf the cooks put finished orders on, and then continued to observe them as they sat there, growing sad and cold. We waited some more. We continued to wait. Eventually, our server, who had been very busy seating other customers, pouring coffee, and socializing with her fellow staff members, collected several plates and brought them to our table. Pancake puppies were warm. My eggs were barely warm, Mrs. Carnivore’s eggs were inedibly cold. Hash browns-cold, sausage links-cold, bacon-cold, pancakes-cold, french toast-cold, ham slice-warmish. Our server finally realized that there was a problem when she noticed untouched plates at the edge of the table and reluctantly summoned the manager. The manager It is worth mentioning that the restaurant was maybe 25% full when we arrived. Mrs. Carnivore and I were inside Denny’s for over an hour. The manager on duty was informed of the massive shortcomings, and did a grossly insufficient job of trying to fix things. Mrs. Carnivore were offered new food, and when we pointed out we had been there over an hour and were not interested in staying any longer, she offered us a 20% discount. Well under a third of what they sent to our table was touched more than to get a temperature. Congratulations on this wonderful customer service, Denny’s. I hope you are proud. This debacle will be mentioned in a communication to Denny’s corporate, because the Denny’s name is probably worth a bit more than this location is able to understand. To recap, a restaurant known for providing cheap food quickly to drunk people was unable to provide hot food to two customers during a time when they were not busy. The cold«food» took well over a half hour between the order being taken, and the«food» was so cold that only a small bit of it was consumed. Customer service here is nonexistent. I would not take a dog here for food, because dogs deserve a level of service that this establishment is apparently unable or unwilling to provide. Mrs. Carnivore and I will not be returning. Ever. We would also strongly urge you to not waste any of your hard earned money here. There are fast food options close enough that will be happy to provide you with food that is better, and hot, and will not take the better part of an hour to reach you.

I never write reviews because im a server and I know that one bad experience can make or break an establishment or a servers job but I HAVETO! My husband and I went to this Dennys on the way to register for a baby shower. we were in a great mood. We got to dennys around 11am on Saturday 6⁄13 and there were plenty of open tables. It took 20 mins for someone to greet us after we sat. Even after we were greeted(by the manager because our server was handling an incredible 3 tables at once!) we still waited for over ten mins to get a coffee and a milk shake. we were finally greeted by our server who started talking to us from behind the wall in the kitchen area with a nice«eh yo. u guys ready?» still drying his hands with a paper towel. we think his name was Charles. I ordered the skillet which had chorizo in it. Instead of taking my order and moving on… Charles thought it would be appropriate to ask if I was pregnant. I was stunned that he asked me because im not THAT far along or pregnant looking. I easily could’ve been slightly overweight. He told me that I shouldn’t get the skillet because its spicy and pregnant women shouldn’t eat spicy food. I thought he was kidding but he seemed pretty serious. I said«I don’t have a problem with spicy food but thank you.» he kind of gave me an «okay?» look and walked away. our food came out within ten mins which was great because at that point we were ready to leave by the encounters he was having with the table around us. one of his tables had a family of 6. a mother and her children ranging from ages 3−15ish. The 3 year old girl was standing on her chair and her mother told her to sit down… Charles took it upon himself to physically grab the girl by the elbow and pull out her chair and push her down into the seat as though it were his child. Im sure he meant well but again… im a server and I have been for over 10 years… my whole family has been in the food industry all of their lives… YOUDONTTOUCHYOURGUEST… EVER! He also came up to the table behind us with their food by swearing to one one of his coworkers about a different table that was complaining that their order was incorrect. Anyway we get our food and he asks if I want ketchup or hot sauce. as he says hot sauce hes shaking his head and walking away at the same time assuming that I would say no because again. im pregnant and pregnant women cant eat spicy foods I guess. I said yes I would like hot sauce thank u. he gave me a look like«are u serious». Dr. Charles. theres nothing wrong with eating spicy foods while pregnant. there is something very wrong with making your customers uncomfortable. Don’t tell someone what they should order or that u don’t think its a good idea. SORUDEANDUNPROFESSIONAL. the manager didn’t seem like a very confrontational guy but I hope that he a least has a talk with our friend Charles because I guarantee that a lot of the people that came in on Saturday afternoon will not be coming back like the business guys behind us, like the family in front of us, and of course US. thanks

Went there with a party of 10 around midnight on a Sunday night since they were one of the few places open 24 hours. Went in and they said they wouldn’t seat parties over 5 people because there was only one chef and one server. We all just got off from work and went bowling at Sun Ray afterwards. We all also work in the service industry and have never been treated with such disrespect. I told the server it would be ok if we separated into smaller groups of 2 and she still wouldn’t seat us. We were all really confused and decided to speak to the manager about this rule. She told us she was the manager for the night and wouldn’t seat us. So we ended up walking out hangry and went to Perkins down the street instead. I noticed that the group of 5 ahead of us didn’t get seated either. And the group of 3 that went in after us walked out because they apparently only accept cash at this location. We have never been more angry and frustrated with a restaurant before and will never be coming back. AVOIDTHISLOCATION! You have been warned. I wish I didn’t have to put one star because this place deserves to be shut down.

This place needs a good deep cleaning and updating! Our service was okay, seating quickly but not one smile from staff. A smile goes a long way and maybe that would have made a 3 star review. The food was okay, pancakes warm but spongy, like they had been pre-made. Eggs and sausage were okay. My son had a skillet and it was so greasy, the bottom was full of oil. They burnt the toast and he had to wait to bring new one out. I just could not get over how dirty the dining room is, makes me wonder if the kitchen is in the same way. Will not go back here.

If I could leave a no star rating this one would get — stars worst customer service… manager did not smile did not even acknowledge us when we walked in. The hostess literally had a look of disgust as she led us to our table. It was 10 a.m. On a Friday morning the place only had a few tables filled. Not one person in that restaurant looked happy to be there or provide any kind of good customer service! When I provided feedback on our experience to the manager he did not even acknowledge it !

It was my birthday on April 13 and I wanted to use my free Grand Slam coupon and go somewhere different and affordable with my family. Therefore, I chose Denny’s the location on 255 Century Ave N Maplewood, MN55109 against my better judgment. I read other Unilocalers complaints about the poor customer service at this particular location and said I’ll try it anyway because it is close to home. I gave the Century Ave location the benefit of the doubt because I know how some places get a bad reputation based on employees that may not even be working there any longer. So, we went. Our server was a young lady that was pleasant but not knowledgeable or informative and I’ll explain more later on why I say that. We were seated and given a menu that did not list the value menu that has meals starting at $ 2-$ 8, a very good deal. So I asked the server where the value meals were and she stated that they were on a different menu and said she would get me one. She returned to our table with one menu and there were four of us. I asked for more menus and she promptly got them. We ordered all our meals from the value menu and I wanted to order the Grand Slam for myself. However, I wanted to substitute the pancakes for a piece of French Toast. She said a customer did so yesterday for an extra fee of $ 2 and she would check on the price. She returned to our table and said she couldn’t do it. Supposedly you cannot substitute a piece of French Toast for 3 pancakes. Really, you’d rather give me 3 pancakes instead of 1 piece of French Toast? Is that the best financially for your restaurant? OK. I didn’t understand it and I even tried to just buy the French toast separately and I couldn’t do that. Are you serious I can’t just buy a piece of French Toast. There is more flexibility at a fast food restaurant then this place. So my husband said I’ll eat your pancakes and you order a French Toast breakfast. My daughter wanted hash browns and my son wanted a side of grits. So the server said this would be .99 cents in addition to our meal price. Awesome price! OK. Our food came and the food was hot and great, no complaints. Then we went to the register and the same server said because we ordered off of the value menu she couldn’t give me the free Grand Slam and she would have separate the tickets which would increase the cost of our bill. I thought«Who is this person?» Weren’t you the same young lady that served us and made the ticket for us? Why would you let us order off the value menu knowing I wanted to use my free Grand Slam coupon? I was very clear it was my birthday and what I hoped to do. Why wouldn’t you have told us all the stipulations at our table? She also said that you have to order a drink to use the coupon. This was not on the e-mail that I received from Denny’s but luckily I ordered a drink. All this drama on my birthday! I sent my family to the car so my kids didn’t have to have their meal spoiled. Next, the manager came over talking about how he was giving me a deal. What?! I didn’t ask for a deal I asked to use my coupon ONMYBIRTHDAY. Never, again will I return to this location.
