The innkeeper was so helpful and friendly and took the time to share restaurant recommendations and points of interest. We were only there for one night and we stayed in the map room. I wish we could have stayed longer. It was a 15 min walk in to town, which was well lit and felt very safe. We had an early flight and decided to stay at the MHI instead of a commercial chain at a comparable price and it was well worth it.

Well, isn’t this a curious thing. I wrote a review about this inn while I was IN the parking area back in October, however apparently the owner was able to petition Unilocal to remove the review as invalid. That, in my opinion, speaks VOLUMES for the character of this business. We booked a room here in Oct 2014 online, however upon arrival we came to find out that the couple in front of us in line had called on the phone and the owner of this inn had double booked the single room available. It is difficult to ascertain who booked first, however we talked to the couple in the parking lot and they had said they had just called within the last 10 minutes while we had booked over an hour before online. Case in point, this innkeeper did not check his online bookings prior to telling a customer on the phone that they could have the room. This resulted in our not being able to stay near Salem for the night, and instead we were forced to drive to Boston to find a hotel. To be completely honest, the exterior was great and the location was practical, however the inside was crowded and did not feel comfortable. Of course, we didn’t make it any further than the lobby area. The best part about our whole issue was that the innkeeper sold our room to the other couple for over $ 80 less per night than we had paid! Karma. Hopefully this review stays up this time. Otherwise, I will have to dig out the photos we took while at the inn and pop them up on here as proof. How ridiculous to not only insult your clients but then also devalue their honest review of your large shortcoming. Disgraceful.

What a wonderful and charming inn. We weren’t sure what to expect based on the previous review,(the price and central location was great, and we only needed a clean bed to rest our head), so we risked it but were pleasantly surprised. Jeffrey, the Innkeeper, was very nice and shared some history of the building while showing us to our room. He gave us a great dinner recommendation(Jack Tar), too. Best of all was the breakfast — fresh fruit, muffins and pastries, variety of cereals, eggs, and coffee, coffee, coffee. The common rooms were all very clean and decorated tastefully, traditionally. It’s a nice juxtaposition to the more modern style in the suites. We stayed in Suite 10 and were impressed with the space and updates. The kitchenette and complimentary coffee was a nice touch. I wish we could’ve stayed a little longer, but already made plans to leave early. We’ll definitely go back and recommend it to others!

I really loved my visit at The Marblehead Inn! My room was crisp and neat as a pin with beautiful oceanic décor in a tranquil sea blue shade… beautiful to fluffy towels and a massive comfy bed with gorgeous pillows and bedding! Bathroom was impeccable and the little guest soaps and shampoo smelled wonderful! I found Jeffrey to be lovely, affable and very helpful! The location is great as you can stroll down to all the beautiful attractions Marblehead has to offer. It’s not a bed and breakfast but they do provide always a nice selection of breakfast fare, fruit, muffins, tea, coffee in a nicely appointed dining area! Loved it!

My boyfriend and I stayed here in mid October and loved it! We stayed in a suite with a living room and kitchenette. The room was decorated beautifully and very clean. We had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The inn keepers were sweet and extremely helpful. The location is great, only a few minutes from some cute little shops and restaurants and not far from Salem.

This place is just perfect. We were in town over the weekend for a family reunion, a few blocks from the beach. It is now under new ownership and completely redone. It’s clean and comfy with great accommodations. Our entire family(we had 6 in an adjoining room suite), fit comfortably. The breakfast was perfect and delicious. The staff brought us everything we asked for(free bottles of water, ironing board, extra cribs) and were so gracious and accommodating. I would highly recommend.

My newlywed spouse and I stayed here the nights of October 31st and November 1st in one of their smaller room. The innkeepers and staff were very friendly. It’s just a short distance away from Salem for their Halloween festivities. They had a wonderful breakfast. It was better than continental. They had fresh fruits, several kinds of breads to choose from along with coffee and several teas to choose from. It wasn’t your standard toast, bagel and coffee breakfast. They also had a bathtub with jets in it which made for lots of bubbles in the bubble bath. Highly recommended.

A great place to stay if you’re visiting Marblehead or the surrounding area. Feels more like home than an inn thanks to the amazing inn keepers, Karlene and John.

From the outside and photos this is a great old inn. But inside the historic, old home feel is gone. Yes, the rooms and spaces are clean and working and updated, but our expectation of staying in an old bed and breakfast inn was unrealized. Our room was spacious and modern, had a small kitchenette, and a great comfortable bed. The bathroom was large and overall everything was quite comfy. Books to read on the shelves, and coffee ready to run every morning in the coffeemaker. The one odd, weird, inexplicable lapse was that a big selling point was the bed and BREAKFAST. We stayed five days. No breakfast. Ever. Nobody was even in the breakfast area in the morning, there were no signs explaining why there was no breakfast as promised. Stayed in lots and lots of bed and breakfasts over the years and NEVER had one totally fail to step up and deliver until now. Or at least explain why there was no food at the inn. The only possible explanation seemed to be the large FORSALE sign out front. Maybe they have fallen on very hard times.
