I wanted to love this place, but was actually very disappointed. We used our reciprocal membership to have dinner at the Hideaway. On the bright side, the place is lovely and the views are spectacular. However, we arrived around 7:30 and asked to be seated near the window so we could catch the magnificent sunset. We were told that the 2 open tables were taken. I have to call BS because both of them remained open for the entire evening. The restaurant was about half full. The Italian buffet was ok but we didn’t realize that they broke it down around 8:30. So after we enjoyed a a bit of conversation over a drink, it was a rush to get dinner(which ended up being just so-so). Bottom line, GREAT views! OK wait staff. and thumbs down to the maitre-d who was less than hospitable. With so many wonderful places to dine in Naples, I don’t think we feel the need to return to the Hideaway.

The beach is ‘okay’, if you can get to it. For those that live in the gated/private community of Hideaway Beach, thats easy enough, but for the general public, it means a long slippery walk from Tigertail Beach. You have to time it just right because when the tide moves in, you will be literally waste deep in water will your towels, beach chairs and umbrella. The beach takes public funds to build the sand back up on this very fast flowing Marco river that constantly erodes it away. Hideaway Beach also takes public funds to hard-shore using t-groins. But the rub is that there have been reported incidents when the public have been harassed on the public beach. I’m guessing that Hideaway Beach wants it all to themselves. Its a ‘walk’ and not for those who don’t like the risk of being harassed or trapped there by the high tides. If you can overcome all that, take some supplies like water and go to the bathroom before heading out from the public park at Tigertail Beach(last time I was there there were no public facilities at Hideaway Beach) If you want to avoid all the nastiness, walk out onto the Tigertail sand spur that now encircles Hideaway Beach with birds and vegetation and partially blocks their view of the Gulf. The Marco River that flows past this beach is very fast, but the protected area behind the sand bar offers safety where you can enjoy swimming with manatee, dolphin and sharks in murky water. The quality of the sand is usually very rough filled with large broken clam shells. Watch out for stainless steel nails, bolts and other fittings that have broken off the t-groin anti-erosion structures that lay in and around the beach area. Some people will moor their boats overnight in front of Hideaway Beach and party on the sand, much to the chagrin of the Hideaway Beach residents.

Beautiful, safe and friendly gated neighborhood. There are tennis courts, an executive golf course, bocce ball and a sports center for the athlete in you. Then, there’s the club house and the chicki next to the beach and a heated pool with a hot tub. We have had a house here since 1997, and with the exception of a few people who are big complainers, this community is a paradise to live in.

A private gated community so unless you know someone you can’t get it but if you do, enjoy the private beach loaded with shells and no people.
