Margate is 2 miles south of Atlantic City. Margate is home to Lucy the elephant. Lucy is 119 years old. It is a tourist attraction and has been a miniature hotel, private beach cottage and tavern and is back to being a museum. Margate is referenced in the 2009 movie 500 Days of summer. The character in the movie Tom Hansen played by Jospeh Gordon is from Margate. Margate has several Zagat rated restaurants. Among them are Steve and Cookies and Tomatoes. Margate is also home to Marven Gardens of the Monopoloy board game. There are no hotels and it is mostly home owners. The beaches are narrow and they include such activities as surfing, kayaking, and Hobie cat sailing. There are several ice cream parlors and a farmers market.
