Longport Dog Beach

Our dog loved this place. It would have been a good day to spend at the beach with our furry buddy. However, when we went the wheather did not allow us. But the short time we had it was great and will be doing a beach day with my little buddy in the near future. Everyone was very friendly. It was an hour drive from Philly. Keep your eyes open because you can miss it. If you hit the the toll booth you went to far. Bring food not that many places near by that I seen. Great hidden gem!

Exceeded my expectations. The locals were friendly and welcoming. My dog ran around off leash, most dogs were off leash. Only just over an hour drive from philly.
Bring your own water and toys for your pup, and you will truly have a great time. There are wawa’s and restaurants nearby if you get hungry or need to use the restroom.

Great little gem of a dog beach. It was very quiet when we visited at the end of March and of course a bit chilly. The tide was high and the waves were a bit to big for the pups to swim much but that did not stop them. I would believe this place is off the chain in the summer!

What could be better?
Sure, maybe it isn’t the cleanest beach in the world, but it’s a damn dog beach. Not a family, bring all the little toddlers, beach tents, boardwalks, snacks and sun bathing kind of beach. Most the romp with dogs, roll in sand with dogs, and run up and down the beach with dogs.
Dog in he summer paradise. Just wish it was a little closer.

The only dedicated dog beach open to your pups any time of the year! When we first started looking for a dog beach in the NYC area a few years ago, this was the go to spot, even though it is a good two hours from the city. Finding this little gem has made the AC trips much more interesting and in a long run, probably saves a lot of money from gambling losses. Our 3 shelties always have a blast here running along the waves.
The only thing to be aware of is to stay on the ocean side and stay away from the water between the beach and the highway as the water might be sitting there for a while. Parking spots might be limited on a nice day, you can park in the lot across the highway, but be careful walking your dogs across the street. It might be best to drop off the dogs first before parking across the street.

Great place to pet other people’s dogs and talk story.

Looking for a great place to take your dog to run in and out of the ocean!!! This is the spot to go always a fun time with the fur baby’s!!!

So Fun! Great beach just before the Ocean City Toll bring. No toll from Longport side. Families, dogs and a nice beach. Bring your frisbee, ball or beach chair. Everyone is very friendly.
There is a free parking lot and rocks that separate the beach from the parking lot so that your dogs slow up if they should take off towards the parking lot. I felt very safe. Some people had their dogs on leashes because they were concerned. It was our first visit to the dog beach and our puppy was very comfortable there. Can’t wait to go back tomorrow!

We took a ride today to longport dog beach,
The entrance was blocked by construction and we were denied access to the beach.
There were several families with their dogs all disappointed that had traveled up to 4 hrs to be turned away. My daughter found a path though the marsh and fallen trees to the beach all the families followed and we ended up having a great time on the beach.
There was access to the beach on the other side but we were not permitted on it because it was a bird preserve! It was very frustrating because you could see how close the beach was but could not get it#
Make sure that the entrance is open if you don’t want to forge your way through the marsh!

Absolute dump. They are working on the regular parking space and entrance so you walk along a huge stretch of road until you finally decide to just go over the wires blocking off the beach.
It smelled horrible, Dead Sea creatures everywhere, the sand was that terrible gray marbled color, and there is NO signs indicating that it’s a dog park, or if you are even allowed there.
The water and beach edge was so nasty that my wife would not even take our dog to go in it.
We left after about 5 minutes…

Better than a dog park! Our first visit to Longport dog beach and we can’t wait to go back especially since it’s open all year round! Plus, no permit or tags required.
The other owners couldn’t have been more friendly sharing toys on the beach or paying no mind when a dog would walk all over blankets with their sandy paws.
As in previous posts, bring your own water/​bowls, poop bags, even treats. Probably wouldn’t hurt to have an umbrella for shade and bug spray for those pesky greenheads.
Parking is free, but has limited space so you can park along the road with no problem. There is a porta-​potty and beach is clean, minus the overload of trash at the main entrance, which is not really well-​kept.
You and your pup will have a blast. We sure did!

This dog beach is great! Much larger than the one I’ve been to in Chicago. There was a basket of toys/​bones/​water there which someone left in memory of their dog– very sweet. Room to run and play. Child friendly. Everyone we met there was friendly. We spent the entire day there and I can’t wait to go back!

My sister came to visit me in Philly, and demanded that we take our dogs to the beach together. Longport is the only dog-​friendly, leash-​free dog beach that I could find online, and it was pretty fantastic. Our pups loved being able to run around the beach, jump in the water, and play with other dogs. The beach itself was clean and well kept.
We felt safe letting our dogs run around without their leashes because there’s a little body of water that separates the beach from the road. There’s only one access point to the parking lot, and there are rocks there to make it hard for the pups to run up them if they decide to dart suddenly. I’m so glad I found this place, I’ll definitely be back this summer!

This beach is a little over an hour from where I live in South Jersey. My dog has a blast. He was able to run off leash, playing with dogs of all sizes. Owners were pretty open to just letting the dogs be. Next time I’ll bring beach chairs so we can relax and stay longer. Very fun!

Great place to being your dog. Be considerate and clean up after them too. We love bringing our two dogs here for socialization a play. Nice and open area.

I live in Brooklyn and was visiting Longport for the weekend with my parents. I took my 6 month boxer puppy here three days in a row. It’s a great, clean place to bring your dog to have fun with other dogs and swim.
I love everything about this dog beach except for some of the dog owners. People were possessive of their dog’s toys – why even bring the toy if you don’t want other dogs playing with it? And twice a young kid brought a beach ball and a soccer ball and then was upset when my pup wanted to play with it. Leave it at home!
I heard some guy complaining to his son about how «people can’t control their dogs so we have to stand while we eat»…you can always leave your dog at home and go to a regular beach if you have an issue but this is a DOG BEACH. People need to let dogs be dogs.

If you’re looking for a nice place to take your dog where he/​she can run in the sand and jump in the water, as well as play with other dogs, this is the place! It’s a no-​frills section of the beach in Longport that is barely noticeable from the road. There’s no amenities or anything but just having a place where I can take my dog and allow him to roam off the leash is great. Bring your own water, poop bags, etc because the only thing the LDB provides is trash cans (and I believe a porta-​potty). My dog had fun and so did I. There were about a dozen or so dogs and owners there so be prepared to share the beach.
The only negatives I have (and this is being picky) is that the water is not necessarily the cleanest. There’s some gooey dirt and algae at the edge of the water (totally harmless) but I wouldn’t necessarily play in it myself but it was fine for my dog and that’s the point. Also, the entrance pathway to the dog beach is narrow with a lot of foliage around (typically a tick-​zone in many environments) and you have to walk over some big sharp rocks. Just be careful until you get to the opening to the beach. All in all, it’s a great place for dogs. I’ll definitely be back with my dog a few more times this summer and it’ll be a yearly thing for me.

My husband and I were searching for a beach that would allow us to have our lab/​border collie pup off leash and came across Longport Dog Beach. It is nothing glamorous, but our furry girl loved every single minute of it!!! Don’t except soft, fluffy, well groomed sand. Because its not that. But the dogs were very friendly and our dog had so much fun. There are no trash cans on the beach, or poop bags. So bring your own bags and throw the poop in the can in the parking lot. Also, bring your own bowl and fresh water to keep your dog hydrated up. Be realistic and know that it’s a beach for dogs and you will have an awesome time. We sure did!!!

There is a long stretch of beach and plenty of room for the dogs to run and play. We enjoy going there and usually bring our chairs, hang out and relax. Our dog loves this beach, it’s a friendly beach of dog lovers. We went there tonight and the beach was cleaner then the last time we went. I would recommend a trash can on the beach itself and poop bags. Definitely a good place to take the dog for exercise.

This summer, I spent some time researching dog beaches in New Jersey. My boyfriend and I decided to stop by this dog beach with my miniature dachshund Charlotte on our way out of Ocean City, NJ, which is not at all a very dog-​friendly town. We had high hopes about this beach, but it was extremely disappointing.
Many people were there with their dogs, but no one was really hanging out or sitting on blankets. Why? Because the sand has black streaks on it, and the area where the water meets the sand looks like black sludge. I couldn’t figure out if it was pollution or just sand that wasn’t maintained. Also, the beach was a graveyard for shellfish — could be a bad sign?
We stayed for a few minutes because Charlotte seemed to like running around and playing with other dogs, but I was really grossed out and felt like I needed a shower immediately. Nice that there’s a dog beach here but not nice that it’s so disgusting.
