My review is based stictly on the food: I bought the plain cheesecake and the red velvet cake. The cheesecake was good at first. The more I got into it, I noticed that the side was kind of stiff, like it’s been sitting out too long or it’s reaching its shelf life. The red velvet, was not good. Tasted like it had cinnamon or something weird and the icing was hard. I’ve never had cake where you can’t stick your fork through the icing. Since I couldn’t taste the icing I can’t tell you if it was made from cream cheese or not. I have a feeling the cake was old. Not planning on going back. That was a turn off for me.

Best. Tres Leches Cake. Ever. Like I’m sure many people before us, we tried this place inadvertently while ordering dessert at Kiosco just a few places down. You see, Sabadores is owned by the father of the owner(Eddie) of Kiosco. Tres Leches cake is really hit or miss — when it’s done right, it’s my favorite cake … but not everywhere does it right. This was probably the best piece of cake I have ever eaten in my life. It’s so perfectly moist that it’s like eating a custard … a delicious, delicious custard. And the whipped cream on top is thick and luscious. It’s heaven on a plate. After dinner, we decided to stop by and pick up a few things — we got the Tiramisu cake and some sort of sweet sticky bun. Even after a day in the fridge, both ranked as some of the tastiest dessert items we’ve ever had. Eddie raves about the Cheesecake and Strawberry Shortcakes here as well, but we’ve never had them. All I know is that if the only thing they served was Tres Leches cake, they’d still get a five star review and we’d still be coming back!

After eating a Kioskos Columbian Restaurant last night, Eddie(the owner) told me his father had opened his bakery to the public. It’s located several doors up the street from Kioskos, has a small seating area with excellent coffee in addition to a variety of fresh baked heavenly delights. We stopped by and it is worth a trip by itself. In my mind the opening of this bakery in Marietta ranks with the opening of Douceur de France several years ago. Much smaller than Douceur,(however those of you that first went to Douceur will remember they were quite small in the beginning). the quality is the same with Columbian influences. Marietta is blessed to have two bakeries this good. The fruit tart was delicious and the apple turnover one of the best I’ve had. I’m going back for the tres leches cake!
