Penguin’s Frozen Yogurt

I love Penguins. It’s unfortunate that most of the stores have closed down over the course of time, but this has always been the best soft serve frozen yogurt I’ve ever had. The owners are very kind people that treat their customers like family. They also provide quite a selection of ice creams as an alternative to the frozen yogurt, which you can’t go wrong with. They keep it simple, serving up just about six flavors. The tuxedo twist (half chocolate/​half vanilla) is the best for the price. How can you beat a $ 2 cone?

Not sure how this place was able to get so many 4 star reviews. It’s the most random Fro-​Yo place in the world. I wouldn’t even call it a FroYo place. they actually have more ice cream options than the measly 6 or so FroYo flavors. They don’t even have normal tart yogurt!
Aside from having the same flavors of ice cream and yogurt as any other run-​of-​the-​mill establishment, the place seems to be searching for an identity. But I guess it’s perfect if you’re craving both a cold scoop and some lotto tickets. perhaps this place is better suited for New York, since it’s basically a convenience store that happens to sell froyo and ice cream.
2 stars. How this place will survive is as good a guess as yours or mine.

The chocolate peanut butter was tasteless and the cookie dough topping was too. I just threw it away.

I have been a customer of Pengiin’s Frozen Yogurt since the 80s. They have moved all over Marina del Rey, but I stick with em!!! #Kittysmack

I have a soft spot for this place. My boyfriend and I pretty much go here weekly. The owners are very kind, efficient people. They have a selection of ice creams, but we always go for the frozen yogurt. They usually have 6 flavors and we always get one of the low cal/​low sugar options. The small with topping is a generous portion and is so satisfying for dessert. This is not a serve yourself shop so don’t expect to heap piles of m&ms, oreos, cookie dough bites, etc all over the fro yo. You can pick one or two toppings and they put them on for you. Its just seems a bit more refined and leaves you happy after you eat it, rather than regretting the overkill of sugary combinations. I like to get reeses, that its, just reeses on my fro you. Its perfect.
They also have a frequent customer card. I think for every 10 you get a free one. Woohoo!

Have to rate 5 stars because I loved how the guy served me a lot of MOCHI when he didn’t have to! Left him $ 3 tip. :) however still disappointed that they didn’t have rocky road when they I went in yesterday :(

Better than every frozen yogurt chain out there… top notch service. For the record i don’t think this is a mom n pop yogurt shop (4 other locations). These are trained experts. I’ve been frequenting Penguins since 1987.

Love this place! Takes me back to when I was a kid. Yogurt is creamy, well-​priced, and the flavors are so good! Parking is easy as well which is a real plus in the area. I got a chocolate/​vanilla swirl, and it really hit the spot. I see myself coming here a lot more now that the weather is getting warmer!

Cute mom and pop froyo place right next to Walgreens. Love finding these hole in the wall froyo places that serve quality froyo for great prices! Although their flavor selection is more limited than other places, they do offer unique flavors. My favorite is their peanut butter flavor! I like to have it with chocolate chips, mocha and almonds. They really load up the toppings for you. I hate it when other froyo places are so stingy with their toppings. I get this combo every time I come here. You can get a generous serving of froyo for under $ 5. I also, like the fact that they put the toppings on for you. Absolutely hate it when I see children putting their hands and finger all into the toppings! Staff here is very friendly and they offer you a lot of free samples to try.

I’ve been going to penguins since I was a child. They have the best frozen yogurt. I will never stop going to penguins.

I love penguins! My boyfriend fights professionally & when he’s training he has to be on top of his weight. You would thing Frozen yogurt would be the last thing that he could eat. Luckily, penguins offers a froyo that’s sugar free, full of protein & only 30 calories per serving… The flavors are always changing & they never disappoint. The shop is run by the sweetest couple! My boyfriend helped jump start a car that was broken down in their parking lot once & they gave him 2 punch cards for free yogurt!

I grew up eating this frozen yogurt here in the 80’s at there various around marina now I bring my kids here. If there is one flavor to get try the peanut butter yogurt it’s the best!

Simply the best. I’ve been going here since I was a kid and they still have the best hot fudge EVER.

Mom ‘n Pop fro-​yo shoppe in the Walgreens corner strip mall with the dry cleaner and Korean barbeque.
Maybe not a good location for this type of business. Am I too late. is Penguin’s gone already? :’(
Ambiance was lack-​lustre, but the fro-​yo and toppings were excellent. Like Pinkberry, only six flavours available at a time.
Enjoyed the Cookies ‘n Cream and Vanilla. Multi-​coloured mochi, and the fresh mango was really good, ripe and large dice. Yum-​tastic.
‘Yo-​cream’– some fancy combo of yogurt and cream– is apparently what makes Penguin’s really creamy and rich-​tasting.
Samples are free, and the owners were super nice. EXTRA STAR for them, as well as awesomely fresh fruit topping, delicious creamy goodness, as well as the hand sanitiser right next to a napkin dispenser.
Dessert for under five buckaronis. YES please! They also served Blue Bunny ice cream for. non-​fro-​yo fans. Yeah, I know there are some.
But truly, though– we simply can’t be bffs if you hates on my fro-​yo love.

Just okay, not great. Parking is limited on a busy night due to other places nearby, and the intersection of Lincoln and Washington is a train wreck ²⁴⁄₇ so it’s a challenge to get too.
The peanut butter froyo was way too fake tasting, too much saccharin for us. Stick to the ice cream with lots of toppings.
Beware, they have medium, small, and extra small… really it is way too much, too much, and regular. I said small and was overwhelmed.
Hot fudge was watered down, too thin, and melted the soft serve immediately turning everything into soup, so avoid that too. Hot fudge should be fudge and stick to your bones and ass not wash away right?

Love this froyo spot, located conveniently a block away from the dental office I work at :) The yogurt is on point, good flavors and good toppings. I also like that the flavors are changed weekly so there’s always something new to try.
I love the chocolate with fresh strawberries and chocolate chips. yum! They put the toppings on for you but they don’t skimp and I like that. I also like that since the toppings are behind the counter you can count on them to be a lot more sanitary than places like Yogurtland where kids are free to put their sticky paws all over everything.
The owners are awesome, very friendly and helpful. I love their punch card system. Buy 12 get one medium yogurt (quite big) with topping or a large cup with no topping. I like free yogurt!

I moved my job from Thousand Oaks to Westwood… Oh my that was a dangerous thing, to be so near to wonderful shops and food every day.
Last week we had a really busy Friday and it was a super gorgeous day out. When my boss told me to take a break, I had to listen…
The other day on my usual mile walk at lunch, I saw the Penguins. I had been from the east coast so I did not know Penguins before.
I had the ghirardelli chocolate and brownie with almonds topping. Amazing.
Since I was in the midst of my mile walk I justified having this lovely treat as I would just walk a little faster on the way home.
The staff are great and appear to get to know their customers…
The small portion was perfect and just delicious!
You know I will be there again to check everything out.

Now that Pinkberry and Tutti Frutti closed down in Marina del Rey, this is the last standing option in the hood. It’s not self serve but the prices are still pretty cheap. An extra small is more than I would serve myself at a Yogurtland. With one topping I paid $ 2.99.
They have all the toppings — mochi, fruit, cereal, animal crackers — it’s all there. It’s not as cool and modern as some of the other chains, but the service makes up for it. The couple that runs the place is so friendly.
My fav flavors are birthday cake and peanut butter! They only have about 8 flavors and I don’t think they change seasonally. But I am happy to support a smaller guy instead of the big chain.
The real winning draw of this place is the easy in and out parking.

My favorite FroYo spot in Marina del Rey (Penguin’s on Mindanao) closed down earlier this year and since then I’ve felt like Goldilocks looking for yogurt that is «just right.» For months, I’ve been saying, «This one’s too runny.» or «This one’s too icey.» At Penguin’s, I was giddy like a little kid shouting, «This one’s just right!» at my first spoonful of Irish Mint yogurt.
Penguin’s has opened at a new location just south of Washington on Lincoln, but it’s the same friendly owners from the old location. I asked why they moved and they said it was simply cheaper rent at the new spot. Heck, I’ll drive an extra 3 – 4 blocks if it means they can stay in business and I can get my frogurt fix for the week.
They have old-​school ice-​cream and such, but for my wife and me, it is usually the soft, creamy frozen yogurt which lures us to Penguin’s. Typically, I get a cone or cup, but tonight a couple LMU student’s were loading up 3 – 4 quarts to go and decided to follow suit since it’s just a couple bucks more for a whole quart. I thought it’d last a week, but it didn’t even make it to midnight.
Parking is free in the shared lot. The entrance off Lincoln is about the most narrow one around, so be careful Goldilocks. The atmosphere is about the most bland/​boring you’ll find in a modern business. Who cares? Gimme some of that Peanut Butter flavor. Also, be sure to get one of their punch cards towards a free yogurt because the only thing to make me more giddy than Penguin’s Frozen Yogurt in Venice/​MDR is free Penguin’s Frozen Yogurt.
