I want this to be a five star dive. Much to my dismay, it just didn’t live up to the hype. We were there on a Friday night. Now, keep in mind, this is a bar and they do allow smoking. So, if you go with something other in mind, you will have a big problem. Not a big deal for us… it’s a bar, grow up! The main dining room wasn’t too busy. The wait staff seemed to be a bit distracted and we had to ask for some service. Drinks soon began to flow from the bar and we chose to wait for a few members of our group that took some time to arrive. Once we got the group there, we ordered. The mainstay of Don’s is the fried fish, so I ordered the all you can eat fish. I don’t even remember the sides, seems like it may have been chips. The fish was fresh, flakey but virtually without taste. Most of the rest of our group also ordered fish and had the same comments. I will visit again and probably try other things on the menu. Until then, the 3 stars stay.

Very divey joint with the typical character of a small-time Midwest tavern: low light, semi-uncomfortable seating, friendly and informal bar staff, and plenty of cigarette smoke. I’m not complaining about any of these things; Don’s Tap is what it is, and doesn’t try to be what it isn’t. I respect that. On the topic of food, I have to say I was VERY disappointed that they had no soup when I stopped in. Not just no turtle soup(which is what I wanted), but no soup at all. Very odd. But I got the all-you-can-eat fish with potato wedges, and I guess when they say«all-you-can-eat,» they mean«more than you can eat on one plate,» because not only did I not send my plate back for more, I couldn’t even finish what I first got. Again, not complaining — why would I complain about too much food? Next time I’ll just get a fish basket or sandwich though. Also, the tartar sauces are homemade, and I enjoyed both the regular and jalapeño, despite usually disliking tartar sauce(I’m a malt vinegar guy). I want to knock the place for the beer selection, but again, it’s a simple, small-time tavern in Marion, Indiana. I can make do with AmberBock. So overall, a very nice little joint to embody the region. Worth a visit if one’s in the area.

I live in the Chicago area… but I’m from Marion… grew up there and my Dad still lives near this place. The fish is the BEST!!! I travel around a little and this is the best fish I have ever had and I’ve been to many different fish fries on Friday around Chicago. You can get this at Don’s any night. It’s always hot… not greasy and it’s always«all you can eat» if you order the basket… comes with Cole Slaw and it’s also fantastic… one of my favorites anywhere. Dad usually gets the fish sandwich and it’s a monster… full of fish. It’s very affordable here! My Brother lives in Indy. He also has to go to this place when visiting Dad. Now I’m going to highly suggest my custom sauce for fried fish… take some cocktail or what’s known as shrimp sauce and mix a little tarter sauce in it. This will give you a creamy cocktail sauce. I’m usually at least 80% cocktail sauce… the rest tarter. Experiment to your liking. This is a down home long nec bottle of beer type of place. Don’t expect anything fancy… just real good food. GETTHEFISH! Chow!

Delaware County has smoke free bars and I really notice it now when I go to towns now that still allow smoking in public buildings. There was only one person smoking, but I still ended up smelling like smoke and having to take a shower and wash my hair when I got home. I went for the Walleye. They have an all you can eat version that is pretty reasonable. My wife got the breaded tenderloin. Both were okay. The potato wedges were excellent. The website menu items are accurate, but the prices are not. There is a family dining area.
