Note to Unilocal: this wonderful bookstore is sadly closed. The building in which the store was housed burned down to the ground in 2012, and they never reopened after that.

Windows on the World needs you! And you need Windows on the World. Gary, the proprietor, is a knowledgeable and well-read bookseller. A former Yosemite Park ranger who knows his stuff and is packing a great selection of books and a gift for conversation. Come in for a book, or just a look, and leave the better for it; with coffee and a story, if you’re interested. Books and art, from natural to historical to spiritual. There’s even a great children’s section in the third room, with toys laid out for the little ones to play with while you shop and talk, and, of course, books for tikes-to-preteens, and not-surprisingly a comfy chair for them, or you, to enjoy. You’re in one of the Sierra’s sweetest little towns, support the local bookstore, especially if you’re on vacation — buy a book, a poster, a postcard or even a $ 1 dollar toy. Tell ‘em Ted sent you and that I’ll be back soon.
