I was referred to Josh and Valerie Gibson by a previous customer. They spoke very highly of the Gibson’s and guaranteed that I wouldn’t be disappointed. I was getting quotes to have a bathroom completely gutted and remodeled so I decided to give Gibson’s a call. Valerie very eagerly scheduled an appointment to come out and give me an estimate. Josh Gibson came to my home and gave me a ballpark figure, low and high depending on what materials and design I chose to have them do for me. Josh was very professional and took his time to answer all my questions and explain exactly what was involved in completing my remodel. He followed up his verbal quote with a written quote which was emailed to me a few days later. The written quote was exactly as we discussed on the day of the walk through. I was impressed with Josh and Valerie from the beginning and I knew immediately that I wanted them to complete my project. I signed the estimate and scheduled the project to begin within a couple of weeks. The night before I was expecting Gibson’s crew to show up to start the remodel, I received a call from Valerie letting me know to expect the crew at 8:00 a.m. Sure enough at 8:00 a.m. sharp, the crew was knocking at my door. The crew leader, Matt, introduced himself and gave me a card with his cell phone number on it and told me to call him if I had any questions or concerns throughout the process. Matt and his helper were very professional. They took a look at the bathroom to be demolished, went to their truck to get needed tools and immediately went to work tearing out everything old. First they had to fix a broken water pipe(unexpected) and install all new drywall(including the ceiling which was also unexpected). None of the unexpected was due to anything they did but were pre-existing issues. The fun part came when they installed the new tub, tile surround and floor. These guys are truly artisans… the floor and tile tub surround were absolutely beautiful! Matt is very much a perfectionist and his work shows how much pride he takes in doing a job right the first time. The rest of the remodel moved along pretty quickly once the painting was done. I couldn’t be any happier. My bathroom went from an 80’s catastrophe to a 21st Century work of art in about 2 weeks time. I highly recommend these guys for whatever your home improvement needs may be. I plan on using them again this spring to remodel my basement and I can’t wait to see the transformation. On a side note, I recently had a leak in my roof and I called Valerie. She sent Josh out the same day to check on the roof for me. He found the problem and had a crew out first thing the next day to fix it for me. I will eventually need a new roof but Josh felt I had a few more good years before I needed to worry and he was easily able to repair the area for me. I was so impressed that he didn’t try to sell me a new roof! I completely trust this company and don’t plan on ever calling anyone else for my home repair and improvement needs!

Re: Front-porch re-screening. The original screening of my front porch(in April 2007) was strictly a less than one-star effort, even abysmally failing, literally from day one, in its primary purpose to keep insects off the porch, including bees and hornets. Beginning in June 2009, when a couple of panels became partially undone, as they’d been poorly affixed and were very billowy from the start, I began, off and on, to pursue a re-screening. Those contractors I contacted, though, either didn’t return my call, didn’t follow up, or refused to give a specific estimate of the charges. Recently, however, Gibson Home Services was recommended to me, and, mirabile dictu, in the home improvement/handyman services milieu, I quickly went from the ridiculous to the five-star sublime. Gibson’s promptly contacted me in response to my request, and scheduled an appointment where Josh Gibson — personable, polite, conscientious and very knowledgeable — timely arrived, surveyed the work to be done, made various suggestions re its handling, gave me a verbal estimate, and followed it up with a documented one. A tentative start-up date was given, and, with the job site kept nice and neat and tidy throughout, the work was initiated and fully finished only one day beyond the scheduled completion date, owing to inclement weather(rain) and the logistical difficulty in readily acquiring the exact cedar wood needed for a critical part of the job. But this mere one-day delay, due to force majeure, was, nevertheless, well worth it. The re-screening is a truly solid, well-designed, gorgeous piece of work, both aesthetically as well as functionally. Gibson’s has top-flight craftsmen, and it shows. The screened panels topside are taut and firmly fixed — as tight as drums. The wood paneling and trim work, either existing, or new as needed, were attached/re-attached perfectly and the related cedar stain Josh selected, which he insisted I personally approve, blends with the porch and house precisely. Moreover, in what I considered a particularly inspired move, Josh had critically advised, as opposed to re-screening the underside of the porch(it’s raised up on wooden columns), that it be paneled off instead with cedar wood and trim, which was likewise chosen with great care and caulked and stained to match the porch itself. With the result that no bugs — none at all — have since been entering.(It was the fiberglass screening on the underside which the bugs were breaching with impunity; after that, the spacings between the decking were wide enough in multiple places to easily permit entry.) Now, as for the cost/estimate of this outstanding endeavor, I observe that another favorable reviewer herein has remarked that he never picks the low bidder for a job. My rejoinder is — even if the low bidder is Gibson? Concededly, although I didn’t try to bid out this project, Josh Gibson’s price for this fabulous and flawless re-screening(July 2012) was virtually identical to what I was originally charged back in April 2007 for the initial screening which essentially amounted to a less-than-worthless exercise. So, as to cost, and especially when you factor in the supreme value for the money, Gibson’s in my opinion stands at the head of the class.

FANTASTIC! So about two years ago I had a really bad experience with a local handyman company(NOT Gibson Home Services). In a nutshell, this other company refused to give me an estimate for the work then totally overcharged me for the job and threatened legal action on me. Needless to say, I’ve been hesitant to get additional work done at the house ever since. I noticed about a month ago that I had some water damage and wood rot around an exterior door, and that the small side porch railing by the same door also needed repair. I did a little Internet browsing and discovered Gibson Home Services. I liked that it was a small family owned business run by husband and wife team Josh and Valerie Gibson so I contact them requesting a quote for services. Valerie was very polite and efficient at scheduling the appointment, and Josh came out personally to meet with me, talk through what I needed done, and offer a price estimate. As part of the estimate he gave me options on the types of materials which could be used for the repairs, which I really liked. He gave me a verbal price quote the day of our appointment, and then followed it up with a written price quote via email once he’d confirmed the prices on some of the supplies. Once we’d agreed on the quote they got me on their schedule for service. On the day of service, Josh showed up with the team(Matt and Matt) to introduce us all to each other and to review with the three of us what was going to be done. Then Josh left and the guys got to work. Matt and Matt were polite and professional and worked quickly. The job was done according to schedule and at the price I was quoted. They did a terrific job at replacing the side door, removing and replacing the damaged/rotten trim work, replacing the wobbly and rotten side porch railing with a new vinyl railing, power washing the siding and decks, and then staining the repaired porch steps. Gibson Home Services is a great company — Josh and Valerie have done a great job at surrounding themselves with team members who take pride in their work and love what they do — and it shows in the care and quality of the products. I will definitely be using them for all of my future home repairs. Check out their website to see examples of some of their projects, they can do pretty much everything from small repair jobs like mine to basement finishing, etc.
