We ate here on New Years Eve. The others in my party ordered hibachi shrimp with fried rice and veg. The sauce on the dish was SO good, I loved the veg, my bf said it was the best fried rice he’s had in recent memory and he would probably have to get that dish every time he went there. I ordered a few pieces of fish: tuna, salmon, yellowtail, white tuna, eel and a Yama Roll. The fish was all very fresh, probably the best I’ve had in this area. I wasn’t wowed by the tuna, but the rest was really good — especially the yellowtail — if it wasn’t so busy I would have ordered seconds. The roll was good, super fresh, but lacked something, so I dipped it in one of the sauces that came with the hibachi meals and it really made it great. It’s BYOB, so we couldn’t order the beer we typically order at a sushi place, but now that we know, we can be prepared next time we go.

Sushi was just ok for the price. I guess it was good for the area since there is no good asian food anywhere to be found in the cranberry area. Service is always great but I’ve had better sushi. I would give Yama a 3.7 if it was possible.

This is my go to restaurant because it is consistently good and the service is excellent. Sushi is fresh with a large selection and perfectly prepared. And the Bento boxes are a real treat for lunch! So, if you are carb or sugared out, try Yama Sushi!

Amazing sushi! It’s BYOB which is fine. That just wasn’t obvious to me before I came here.

Best sushi anywhere around here. Bottle of wine, friends and sushi there you go! Always a pleasant atmosphere and great staff. Oh also try the bubble drink if you didn’t bring you wine. Enjoy!

Wife and I stopped in when looking for something new to try in Cranberry as the restaurant selection in this area is surprisingly small in terms of good food. We had sushi and hibachi dinners and found both items to be fresh, perfectly cooked and reasonable in price for the quality received. The sushi was made to order and very well prepared using fresh ingredients. The Hibachi dinners are served on a dinner plate at your table — not at a Hibachi grill with a show — the steak orders were cooked exactly as ordered and the meat was high quality, tender and had a lot of great flavor. Compared to the chain Hibachi places where quantity not quality seems to be the norm, with gristle filled meat and overcooked vegetables, Yama Sushi’s Hibachi was a very pleasant surprise.

As always, the sushi is excellent! The staff is pleasant and helpful. Volcano Roll is my favorite. But it’s always fun to try something different. Tonight it was Ghost Peppers. Not on the menu but a special treat.

One of the better sushi places we have tried in Pittsburgh. Nice to support a local place instead of a chain. They seem to do a lot of tempura in their special rolls. Would be nice to have more variety in special roll choices, sans tempura. We would go back again.

I think the food here is excellent. The seafood is alway fresh, and the prices are very reasonable. The staff has always been friendly, also. I’ve probably tried most sushi restaurants in Pittsburgh, and nothing else in the north hills/cranberry area comes close to the quality here. It’s also byob, which is great for a weekend date with the significant other.

This place never under delivers. There sushi is awesome, but the name doesn’t let you know about their amazing authentic Japanese dishes. Even the kids menu has great choices including California rolls. Their bubble tea is the best I’ve had in a really long time.

Best sushi in the Mars area that isn’t a chain. Make sure to try the sweet potato tempura rolls and the spicy Alaskan rolls. They are to die for! Also, the shrimp shumai comes in the bento box. We weren’t sure what it was at first, but as soon as we figured it out… the shumai became our go-to appetizer. Yama is a BYOB, which is good to know going in. They also deliver, but are closed on Mondays.

We have been going to Yama Sushi for the past 4 years and love this place. Sandy(her brother and husband are the chefs) and her staff are always friendly and welcoming. The Sushi is the best in the area(we don’t do chains) and it’s BYOB… always a plus. We have ordered numerous rolls over the years and never had a bad one… We even had them prepare us a «boat» for a New Years celebration.

If you’re cravin’ solid japanese food in Cranberry, Yama’s a nice place to hit up. Talk about bang for your buck! Their lunch specials are tasty and mad affordable. I came here earlier today with my mom, and we both got bentos. I ordered the Shrimp Teriyaki($ 11), and she got the Tonkatsu($ 10). FYI: portions here are HUGE! They give you SO much food: a california roll(6), side of edamame, shumai(2), rice(duh), and miso soup(or salad). The main dishes were good overall. I wasn’t crazy about the teriyaki sauce(too sweet for me), but they did give me five jumbo-sized pieces of shrimp so PROPS! I actually liked my mom’s tonkatsu more. ANYWHO, I wouldn’t come here for dinner(overpriced in my opinion), but I’ll definitely be back for lunch! I’ve read some bad reviews about service, but I’ve never had a problem! The servers were friendly, quick, and respectful. I also really liked the restaurant’s décor — clean and tasteful! OH, and their tea is free. Make sure to order a cup. It’s not the generic kind you usually get in chinese restaurants. It’s legit green tea that I could drink all day!

This place actually deserves 4STARSFORFOODBUT because the service here is inconsistent, I had to deduct 2 stars. I’m originally from California and definitely a sushi lover, so I might be hard on the sushi places in Pittsburgh. In general though, the food here is delicious! I want seven fields to keep this restaurant or there will be no authentic japanese food around there. Lol. I like this place for a casual sushi meal. By casual, I mean you can be in your sweats and dine here. I say this like it’s a big deal because most sushi places are dressy places. Again, I love the food here and good variety on the menu. The appetizers are really good and so are the sushi and sashimi. The white tuna sashimi is the best. You know it’s good if it tastes like butter. Lol. The price is also cheaper than other sushi places in the area and still good portions. I tried their udon soup last winter. It was a huge portion and pretty tasty, too. My fiancé and I definitely frequent this place for the food, but I do agree with other reviews that the service can be improved. Last night, our server was MIA for about 15 mins as in he was not around at all. My fiancé asked for a glass of water before he disappeared. When he finally came back with the water, he didn’t even give us the usual oranges. Not a big deal, but because we frequent this place, we know what to expect with our meals.

My brother-in-law and sister-in-law love Yama Sushi, so last week my husband and I decided to meet them for a Sushi date. We had reservations for 7:00pm and were promptly seated when my husband and I arrived a little early– we waited for 20 minutes before anyone came over to our table to take our drink order. I was annoyed, but I let it go because I figured it was due to the fact that our entire party was not there yet. However, as our meal went on, the service never got any better– we were there for almost 2.5 hours! We all ordered various sushi rolls for dinner. The 2 rolls I ordered were the Spice Girl Roll and the Rainbow roll– they were okay at best. If I ever returned, I would probably try something else.

Well… I enjoy sushi at least once a week and I work very close to Yama and was excited to be able to have a lunch sushi place with soup and works. I also have a pretty solid stomach, it can handle just about anything. After 2 bites I really should have stopped because I didn’t like it, I didn’t finish. Not sitting in my stomach well. I probably will try it again because I can’t condem them on one time, but it might be a while and then I’m not going to go for sushi. Not really recommended — I’ll update after I try again. The service and environment is nice — lots of options. we’ll see

I had the negimaki bento for lunch delivered to work. –1 beef was severely overcooked and had the texture of a hard thin plastic –1 food was cold –1 delivery took over an hour Miso soup was okay, this is my review for my one experience delivery experience.

The sushi is pretty good, portions are fair, and the restaurant is very clean and comfortable. Good appetizers too. The price is nothing to get excited about but isn’t excessive. Service is also average since seemingly no one can understand you… but then again, isn’t that kind of what you want in an ethnic restaurant? All in all, it’s worth the time and money and we’ll certainly be back. Our go to place for«real» sushi.
