I’m giving two stars specifically for the service as the food was actually pretty good. It was a busy night with live music and dancers scheduled yet the owner and one other person were the only wait staff for close to 40 people. After telling them at the beginning we were going to need separate checks they put it all on one bill and said it was too complicated to split… Then when we questioned them on a couple items they became defensive. Seriously? How can you run a restaurant and not know how to split a check? On top of all that it took an act of God just to get someone’s attention to order even a glass of wine. Won’t go back and won’t recommend it unless they hire an actual wait staff.

I just ordered the st patty day special to go and this is a rare occasion. They get the 5th star based on a Togo item. Bottom line — the above speaks volumes. The food is EXCELLENT

I love Roxx on Main! We have the sliders and some good wine and it is really reasonable. The best thing is the music! They have a small stage and host acoustic versions of the best performers from East Contra Costa County. A wonderful evening is always in store at Roxx on Main!

I walked in by myself this evening. I stood near the entrance for several minutes and no one acknowledged me. So I walked up to the bartender and asked if I should seek myself. He said yes. So I sat down. Perhaps I am wearing a cloaking device and it is not their fault that I am invisible. I can only speculate but maybe they don’t know I’m a good tipper. Two couples came in after me and the staff fluttered around them. I finally got up and walked out. I cannot comment on the food as I was unable to obtain any service. Thanks Roxx for making me feel so unwelcome on my first and last visit.

Hey it’s a hometown kind of venue! Only thing open after 9! It depends on the performer, but ours was chill, good music. The Pinot noir is so good! And Roxx herself served us! Can’t beat that. Our new fave! And the farmers market is every Sunday right on main! They have mimosas!

My husband and I ate here one night to see the local musicians. We were the first two people in the restaurant and actually had to wait an hour for our order to be taken. It might have taken longer, but I actually walked back to the kitchen to ask somebody to take my order(a lady at the table next to us had to do the same). The food was okay, but mostly plain and overpriced. We were given little four ounce water glasses that were only refilled once. We were so parched we drank the whole 1-liter water bottle I had in my purse and had to ask them to give us tap water as we were leaving. We never received a check, having been there for hours, so I walked back to the kitchen to get that also. I was pretty dissatisfied with the service so I didn’t leave a tip. As I was balancing my checkbook later(and yes, I realize I’m probably one of the few people left that still do) I saw that they added a $ 9 tip. I emailed them to ask them to reverse the charge(per the advice of my bank) and they explained that somebody must have confused a «6» for a «9» or something to that effect. I explained that I left no tip so that it couldn’t be my handwriting either way. They said they would mail me a check or if I sent my debit card info they would reverse the charge. I didn’t feel comfortable with either so I just had my bank dispute the charge. Long story short, if you don’t believe me or even like overpriced, mediocre food and crappy service, go ahead. But pay with cash or keep your receipt and check your bank statement. Since nobody balances their checkbooks against bank records I can imagine it’s pretty easy to get away with.

This is not a small plate restaurant. Portions are huge. I was a bit disappointed in the flavor profiles. The service I experienced was horrible, even though the dining area only had a few tables. Perhaps dinner and/or live music is better?

Even though I live fairly close to downtown, I don’t get to come here during the week that often. This was one good day for me to come down for lunch though. It was quiet around 1:30pm They had a lady playing guitar in the front near the window and there were a few patrons eating also. I ordered the Chicken Pesto Sandwich with a side Salad and water. The sandwich was more like chicken salad when I expected an actual breast of chicken. But the flaky French Bread it was on was divine. Now to the best part. The pickles and pickled onion were the best! I should have asked for more. I put them on my salad and the combination of ranch and pickle and crisp green were oh ma gawww! Gooood! If you eat these pickles and onions you will be thinking of them for days after. Service was great. The waitress said you can ask for extra onions and pickles with your order. If they have extra because they make them in house in small batches. So good! Come here for lunch. You’ll really enjoy it.

Went to Roxx in Martinez last night and was pleasantly surprised by the band that was playing. Very fun and great singers ! I had a nice class of Pinot Noir and salami and cheese plate.

The good: Love the atmosphere, the new menu with lots of yummy choices. The jalapeño cheddar mini burgers, the flatbreads and the cheese plates are great! I wish downtown Martinez would spruce up with more places like this. The not so good: what happened to Alyssa? She was a great waitress and so attentive! Now the service is so slow it’s like a retirement home. Get some help for gods sake! Be sure to ask for your check when you sit down because it will be an hour of waiting… Hoping… Wishing you had another drink… Or two. While they fuss over the outside tables(afraid of dine and dash?) and have blinders on as they swish back into the kitchen whilst ignoring your wave for service… Huh?

Stopped at Roxx on Main after my graduation ceremony in SF with my parents, grandma, and fiancé. We were all pretty hungry and wanted to grab a quick bite to eat before heading to the nearby hospital(my sister was pushing out her first baby!). The kitchen was already closed, but they brought out a delicious cheese plate with goat cheese, blue cheese, and another cheese(I think it was from Dublin). Oh my, it was so good! The staff was so kind and generous. One gentleman, I’m thinking he was the bar owner, gave my mom and I a glass of champagne on the house. What a nice gesture! There was live music playing Sat night too. I have to say that Roxx on Main sure beat sitting in a hospital waiting room. I plan on bringing my sister and her husband one night to show them where we were waiting for their daughter to be born. Great establishment, great service, and a great time. Thanks!

This place is fantastic! I brought my daughter to Thursday nights open mic to get her some performing practice, and left as a customer who will come back for sure. First, the service was excellent. I was attended to quickly, even though it was busy. Our server knew the menu, and was not afraid to make food or drink recommendations. Next, the crowd was great. Very low key, but friendly crowd. I would bring my daughter her anytime, and will recommend friends do as well. The open mic was great! A well represented group of musicians, and a host who kept things rolling even though the event was booked, and had a waiting list of a dozen people. The sound system was good, and the host was always sure to adjust when needed for the different performers. To finish things off, many people, including the owner, the host, and customers came to congratulate my daughter for a great performance. It was great to have that, and the confidence it gave my daughter was priceless. I highly recommend this place if you want good food, great service, and a diverse, child friendly crowd.

Who are these people who got good service at Roxx on Main? It’s a slow Tuesday at this place and there is no silverware on the table. That doesn’t change quickly. My coffee nearly got cold waiting for the sugar and spoon to hit the table. It takes four requests and 30 minutes to get table water. The flatbread which should have come out first came out after our wrap and burger. Oh and the wrap my wife got. The waitress wrote down the wrong one. So after 40 minutes(for a wrap!) they have to make her the right one. Apologies? Half-hearted with a sneer and glare that tells me the waitress thinks we’re the ones who ordered wrong. Not true! So the food is good right? Meh. The strawberry balsamic flatbread was okay but really should have been toasted a bit more. The wrap was more like a salad in a loose tortilla which made it tough to eat. My burger? Average which is not what I expect for $ 10. In all, there’s no good reason to visit Roxx unless you enjoy poorly-served mediocre over-priced food.

BRAVO!!! My family and I were on day 11 of our 12 day road trip and Roxx on Main was a complete and wonderful gem! I have to first say how utterly impressed we are with the level of care, attention and service we received. I enjoyed the local wine flight and found a new love in Green Valley 2008 Cab! Roxanne and her team really now have to cater to a family wanting to dine in a sustainable, local and organic restaurant for dinner. For the children they brought them a bucket of crayons and not just a menu to draw on but an entire coloring book in which to pull pages from to color. Super great! We ordered the kids meals — baked chicken nuggets(imagine that restaurants!) sliced organic strawberries(maybe three each but sliced it’s plenty for little ones) and steamed brocolli with juice or milk included for $ 3!!! Bite sizes of healthy food at a reasonable price. But it only gets better — PARENTS — attention. We got special kid plates with the sections, a kid size cup that wasn’t stryofoam or plastic that would go into the trash, but an actual reusable kid size cup. Now hold on for the topper … kid size silverware! Yep. They are thinking about the little person being happy and not making such a mess with big plates, cups and silverware. It’s not too costly to add a dozen or so of these things in restaurants … for the life of me I don’t get why everyone doesn’t do it. So onto the adult meals. We enjoyed ceasar salads with pickled red onions and sea salt croutons, their grass fed beef sliders with crispy and delicate onion strings and local cheddar cheese as well as their local fish tacos. Since we all ate every drop of food on our plates we opted to share the amazing homemade strawberry ice cream as a family($ 6 for two scoops was plenty for us all to enjoy). It was heavenly! Most of the menu is flatbreads or other dishes based around breads. We were hoping for a larger protein dish and less bread — but we made it work and most importantly enjoyed what we ordered.

I appreciate when a place keeps it simple. Especially when they make that simple really, really good. Although Martinez claims to be the birthplace of the martini( ), you won’t find any in here. We chose drinks from their nice selection of wines. Most glasses are $ 5 — $ 7 a piece and they don’t skimp on the pour. The pinot noir was a favorite at our table. In addition to the wine offerings, they also carry a couple Belgian beers and the standard import/domestic options. Four of us split six small plates, three of which were open face bites: — roast beef, horseradish cream cheese, capers — chicken, pesto, jack — salami, pepperoncinis, some sort of cheese I can’t remember The bites are simple, yet well thought out and prepared. The servings are not small by any means — these come six to a plate — perfect for sharing. The smoked salmon filled puffs were delicious and the goat cheese with sweetened jalapenos was consumed quickly.(Admittingly, mostly by me.) This was my first experience with pickled jalapenos — they tasted like jalapeño jelly and the combination of cheese, jalapenos and crackers were a wonderful balance of salty, spicy and sweet. The vanilla cream pastry puffs were a lovely end to the meal. The only dish I didn’t like was the antipasto. Tuna with a plethora of pickled vegetables. It was way too sweet for me — just not my flavor preference. The service was extremely friendly and attentive from start to finish. I don’t think any of our glasses were ever empty before someone asked if we wanted refills and the empty plates were cleared from our table as quickly as we scarfed down the food. The chef made a point to stop by our table to ask us if we liked everything and to talk and joke around for a bit. This is a great addition to the downtown area and I hope to return for more drinks and eats.
