For the life of me I don’t understand how a truck that sells THEIR rainbow ice can get below 5 stars. It literally took me back to the kind I had as a kid in Bensonhurst. I learned that not all Rainbow ices are the same once I tried Andy’s.

Visited at the tail end of the Louis Armstrong fest and this place was a chaotic disaster run by two overcaffeinated, overly rushed & rude staffers. We looked past the typos all over the menu and the two people in front of us returning their coffee(both too sweet) and tried ordering a large with 4 flavors, as pictured on the side of the truck next to a $ 5 sign(pricey) and was told it’s $ 5 for 2 and a $ 1 extra for any additional, but wasn’t worth arguing(she also then tried guilt-shaming us into paying cash with some whiny, likely explanation about the machine). Asked for a dulce de leche and cannoli, and neither were available… so settled on cake batter and orange creamsicle, both of which were mediocre(I used to think all ices tasted the same until this) and the cake batter contained huge ice crystals.

So, this is from their pit stop at the NY Botanical Garden mothers day picnic. Ices I had the Rainbow. Alas all sweet no tart in the lemon to cut the other flavors. Serving They serve in Styrofoam cups. Now I thought Bloomberg had banned them in the five boroughs. I see they are from outa town but anyhow a cup of their ice is an environmental disaster. Customer Service Despite the environmental disaster we needed a second cup. No kids portions served here. «No, can’t do that the cups cost me money» We’ll tips cost me money and that attitude just cost you yours. I’m sure they do, how about«a second cup is 25c, I have to buy them» or a response like that next time? Grupiest truck on the block award goes to Andy’s. On the upside at least an ice truck was there. My daughter has an egg allergy so kudos to NYBG for having sought out a cool down egg and nut free alternative.

My kids have been asking me to get them ices from the truck parked on Park. We pass it when it’s there on the way home from the school bus. They loved it, said it reminded them of Philly. OK. For me, I was happy that the credit card machine worked. And there was no line.

Andrew — thank you, thank you, thank you! You and Nasir are life saviors. Not only did Andrew come through on a catering event, he was early, friendly, professional, came with less than 24 hours notice and best of all… went above and beyond by helping me find a second truck. I originally setup food and dessert for a company outing. Well, the food part didn’t show, didn’t call, and essentially screwed me. This came up on a call with Andrew(from Andy’s Italian Ices) — and by ‘came up’, I mean I was having a nervous breakdown while on the phone with him. Andrew immediately called his network of food trucks and had a friend rush to my spot to save the day. Andrew showed nothing but support and the utmost in customer service. I would call him to cater any and all events I or anyone I know is having in the future.

Whenever I travel to NYC I always make a stop at Andy’s Italian Ice truck. I’m not a big sweet person however I thoroughly enjoy the toasted almond crème ice. Every time I visit Andy’s, I am always impressed with the service but more importantly the ices. I would highly recommend this truck to all my friends and family or anyone looking for a great little treat in the City!

I visited Andy’s in union square this weekend and loved it so much I went back on my lunch break this afternoon! Saturday I had the mango ice which is so fruity and refreshing I wished I had gotten a large. I know all their ices are homemade so I wanted to try as many as I could today. I got a sample of birthday cake and Reese’s and then wound up getting a large mudslide which the guys on the truck told me is a new recipe. LOVED. With such good prices it was a perfect mid day snack on a hot day. Also got an iced coffee which was perfection. Definitely gonna be on the lookout for this truck all summer long!

They had a truck at the NY botanical gardens. The woman taking the orders was NASTY. She accused a guy with his two little daughters of not paying for his ices which I saw he did. We ordered Mocachinos which were watered down and tasteless. We did not ask for our money back(which we should have) but seeing how nasty this woman was we decided to see if they would add some chocolate so it tasted like something. She was nasty but agreed. About 15 minutes later we got our warm bland drink with chocolate syrup. Others seemed disappointed in the quality of the product but did not want to deal with the woman. I hope they don’t let her back into the park again.

I’m not a fan of Italian Ices. What are they? Also known as water ice, it’s made the same way regular ice cream is made(by freezing the ingredients while mixing them) but it’s not made with dairy or eggs. That’s probably why it didn’t taste like anything. I chose both the Reese’s and Snicker’s flavors and apart from the bits of Reese’s and Snickers’ bars, there was no taste – just air. It really is more of a sorbet so perhaps fruity flavors would be more flavorful and taste better. FINALVERDICT: I don’t ever crave sorbet so I wouldn’t try the flavors probably more suitable for this type of ice cream and the guys working in the truck weren’t overly friendly so I won’t be heading back.

I have a serious addiction to these Italian ices. Thank goodness the truck is parked in the hudson square food lot every Wednesday, so that I can feed the addiction. EVERY flavor I’ve had has been amazing. I think I’ve concluded my favorite is the pink lemonade, although the piña colada is a close 2nd. Rainbow is a great classic too. They have water based ices and crème ices. Both are delicious. The price is great too! $ 4 for a regular and it’s a big, filling portion. If you see this truck I highly recommend stopping for it. You will thank me :)

This guy has the best ices i’ve ever had. I usually see him around the soccer field. I wish he had 10 more vans!
