Horrible restaurant. It is dirty, has poor customers service and bland drinks. My husband and I came here and say outside and had a difficult time finding a clean couch to sit on. The staff does not clean up the drinks/plates from the outside area at all. We were ignored at the bar for about an minutes. Clearly understaffed. The hostess also has to man the mini-gold rentals. We ordered an appetizer and drinks while we were waiting for our table. We ended up leaving before we even got a table because we were so disappointed. With such an awesome location, on the beach, I expect more.

A nice waterfront restaurant on the beach is an excellent idea. Every time I spend the day at Tobay, I end up hungry but with nowhere nearby to get dinner. The view is beautiful and it’s the perfect place to end up after the beach. However, they have no business whatsoever charging those prices for what you get. The burritos and enchiladas are absolutely nothing to write home about; it’d be fine for a cheaper place, but for the cost, you definitely expect something a bit more upscale. One of our dishes came with mixed vegetables but it was just the squared carrots, peas, and green beans that you’d get in a microwave bag of veggies from ShopRite. The wait is also very long — definitely send someone ahead to reserve a table. Mojitos were incredible. But I honestly think Chipotle is more flavorful.

The view is great here, you are on the water and such a nice deck to eat dinner and have some drinks. The food was good, not the best mexican food I have had but the combination of view and the drinks was enough for me to go back and tell others to go.

Food is bland and expensive. I guess you’re paying for the atmosphere? Save some money… go to Chipotle and sit on a bench overlooking the water.

Came here at a friend’s recommendation in late August. Very nice outdoor seating with nice lamps all around. Beautiful sunset view over the water. Nice addition was the netting that is totally see through but keeps a lot of bugs and birds away while you eat. As it was dusk, they lit citronella candles at all tables which really helped control any mosquito action. Food: started with the lobster bisque which was very nice and the steamed muscles in garlic wine sauce… Delicious! Even though the muscles were a little small, they were not chewy and you could practically drink the sauce it was so good. Moved on to the paella which was also fantastic and presented beautifully. Really liked the casualness yet sophistication of the place. Outdoor couches and lanterns… Also a nice miniature golf setup in case people felt like some fun… A really nice night. They also didn’t hurry us away even though we were there past closing, which was kind of early at 1930′ but hey, it was the first day of fall, so not expecting late hours. All staff was very friendly and attentive.

This is a good place to go if you want to enjoy an evening at the beach watching the sunset. The food is just ok, as are the drinks, and the service is pleasant but somewhat slow. Prices are what you’d expect based on the location(i.e., about 20% higher than should be). BUT the 3 stars are for the atmosphere which is wonderful. Almost all seating is outside and most tables have nice view of water(bay side of Tobay) and the sunset is gorgeous. We were here last night and had a very relaxing time.

If you’re going to be expensive you should at least be good. Half of the food was undercooked the other half was over cooked. Furthermore, i suspect that the quesadilla is a pre prepared frozen meal from Sysco. The only thing that wasn’t abominably bad was the service. Waiters should never be blamed for terrible undercooked or burnt food.

Overlooking the beach on a Friday night during sunset is the perfect date night… There can definitely be a wait though, it’s popular, and for good reason.

Slow slow slow and expensive. Slow to even get a waiter over. Slow to get our water. Never got our appetizer(which was chips and salsa!) food was mediocre. My steak burrito is more of an enchilada. Wasn’t a burrito you could pick up. A knife and fork one and for 20 bucks is was not worth it. My 6 year old ordered a kids burrito with meat cheese and tomato. Well his was loaded with that and onion which he HATES so he didn’t eat it. Wife had a Cesar salad with was mediocre at best. Would not go back. Next time I’m gonna drop 50 bucks I’ll go next door to the seafood shack.

The«Singh Hospitality group» should be ashamed on the quality and performance of one of their restaurants, the salsa shack. The location is exquisite but the food and service isn’t ! A beautiful Sunday afternoon about 1230 in the afternoon my partner and I go there for cocktails and appetizers. The snotty young blond haired bartender who hardly payed any attention to us while at the bar had the nerve to hand deliver one Olive between her thumb and pointer finger and put it in my bloody Mary when I politely had asked her for extra olives. Nice right?(I called the DOH on that one the following day) Since the place is called salsa shack we ordered salsa and chips and guess what? they served Ragu sauce with oregano. The bartender/waitress who is supposed to be serving us ya know the one with the resting bitch face, well she was hanging out at the past bar at the kitchen for maybe 15 minutes, so I had to ask another gentleman behind the bar to take this off our bill because I was expecting salsa you know the one that has crushed tomatoes and onions etc. he had nothing to say because he knew I was right mistakingly we ordered the muscles the sauce was horrible– I really didn’t get to eat that much of it since the waitress only put one small fork on the bar. She knew we were going to share. It me about 20 minutes to track her down for another fork and 10 minutes later she grudgingly gave it to me. So we finished our drinks pushed most of the muscles aside because they were inedible and asked the waitress for our check she didn’t even look at us, she walked straight past us and Nodded her head. I was so pissed at this point I got ahold of the manager. He couldn’t have been nicer and stuck up for her of course when I said that I’m sure this is not the first complaint that you have got on behalf of this snot nose girl. Please«Singh group“your reputation is a great one and this place surely is bringing your name down get in there look around notice that The place is nearly empty, I’m sure revenues are hurting so make some changes. Put relevant foods on the menu, make sure that it’s good when it comes out and most of all make sure your staff is always with a smile and treat the customers the right way My day wasn’t ruined because we went to one of their other restaurants right next-door the seafood shack and it that place was a 9⁄10 If you want to experience the nice view of the bay I recommend that you do but only order a glass of water or perhaps bring your own because it will take quite some time for you to get that glass

Salsa shack is a gem right off the ocean parkway. The frozen margaritas are refreshing, delicious and not too sweet-perfect after a long day on the beach! The food was fresh and so, so good! The menu is not extensive, but the food delivers flavor. Start with the chips and salsa. The fish tacos were amazing and the chicken fajitas were great! The fajitas came with guacamole so don’t order extra. The views are beautiful and it feels like you’re on vacation. Will definitely be back here!

Was looking forward to the opening of the Salsa Shack as the beginning of the summer. Despite The holiday weekend crowd we were actually Able to secure a table with an umbrella. What a disappointment! Table was dirty with spilled food all around the base. Waited for someone to clean it up. Waiter was so brusque and barely gave us eye contact throughout. Had to ask for table settings and napkins. Frozen mango margaritas while tasty had next to no alcohol. Chicken fajita was dry as a bone and could barely chew. Have been a Tobay member for 50 years and have been patronizing the Salsa Shack since it opened hoping each year they will get their act together!!! Not sure I’ll return!!! So sad… great location.

I have been to the Salsa Shack many times and have never been as disappointed as I was this last time we ate there. The menu has changed, now with less choices and more pricey. We waited one hour for our dinners to be served only to have one of the meals prepared incorrectly. The waiter did bring us a bowl of chips with salsa to hold us over but the salsa was nothing more than tomato sauce with some spices. The shrimp was overdone and tasteless. The side dish with rice, bean, guacamole and lettuce was just thrown onto the plate. Very unappealing. The table next to us had a similar problem where 3 of the 4 meals were served, with the last meal coming after everyone was finished eating. At another table a plate of food was dropped on a woman. This place is poorly managed and I will not be going back.

Triple threat of bad food, slow service, and high prices. Food was similar to Ortega at home with rosa Mexicano prices. View was nice, but why it took 1.5 hours for quesadilla, burger and nachos is beyond me. Service was indifferent, but not rude. Basically, they have you captive and they don’t care(about the food or you).

This is not a restaurant I would recommend to anyone. The location is fantastic, right on the Great Sound Bay! Sunsets are magnificent! Food presentations and quality are very poor. Everything seems processed, no freshness and no love in the food. My husband and I were very disappointed. Next time I guess we will pack sandwiches & watch the sunset! Not worthy for food pics.

Wait stuff friendly, place pleasant enough, food — not so good. They were out of Guacamole & the main fish dish. Arroz con Pollo had enough rice on the plate to feed a cast of thousands, but where is the chicken? If you could find it, dried up. The skirt steak dish — albeit a large piece of steak, also dry. Wouldn’t go back except for nachos perhaps, as it’s nice to eat on the Beach and have a Margarita… which WAS good.

Lousy, lousy service coupled with bad food makes for a lousy dining experience. We waited over an hour to get our food. When we complained, we were told that the kitchen was behind. So waited some more and then waited some more. It started to get cold and when I asked if we could move inside I was told that there were no tables available, despite the fact that there were several empty tables. When I threatened to leave, they finally moved us inside, where we waited some more. When the food finally arrived, it was bland and tasteless. The only thing this place had going for it, is the nice view. Definitely not a place I’ll be going back to.

I was definitely disappointed in this place. The space is nice and so close to the water, but there were so many gnats biting us that it took away from the experience. They give you chips to start with, but a refill costs $ 2, and the waiters and busboys keep hounding you to get more chips. I got a chicken quesadilla, which I thought was a regular quesadilla, but it was more like 3 tacos drowned in cheese and beans. The chicken was hard and dry, and the cheese was super salty. I filled up on the rice and beans. My bf liked his beef tacos. The service was super slow, and it took so long to get their watered-down margaritas. The overpriced food and poor service just made this my first and last trip to Singleton’s.

Standards. We all have them. Some higher, some lower. Some of us care more than we should, and some of us don’t care enough. I consider myself the former. I care. I want to enjoy a good meal, with good service and good value. I don’t necessarily care what it costs, I just want to be able to say«that was worth every dime» or «that was good» or even«that didn’t suck». Unfortunately I can’t say any of the above about the Salsa Shack at Tobay. What I CAN say is «Man! Did THAT suck»! Walk into the Salsa Shack(let’s call it SS for brevity’s sake) and your confronted by a wonderful view of Tobay Beach. Just gorgeous. The restaurant itself is pretty, with outdoor or indoor seating. We sat outside, just in time for a nice sunset and a cool breeze. Nice. Waiter comes, we place an appetizer order of Nachos and Quesados which is a quesadilla. I ask for some chips and salsa as every other table has some, and some sodas and ice teas. Chips don’t come. I ask again. And again. And one more time. By this time, the drinks are gone, we are hungry and thirsty. Where’s the food? It’s a Wednesday night at 6pm, not Saturday night at 8pm. We should get served! Apps come. I ask again for some chips. At this point, it’s a principle thing. I want the damn chips and salsa! The apps come, and they are atrocious. The nachos are soggy, flavorless, and floating in a soup of what can only be a can of Progresso tomato sauce. The Quesados, are ungrilled, cardboard-like tortilla with some gloppy white cheese, and the same tomato sauce drizzled over it. Ugghhh… just…Ugghh. Horrid. Well, the waiter who at this point has brought the chips and salsa, and refilled our drinks, has brought out another bowl of the crappy chips. No salt on them, as flavorless as can be. But HEY! They were GRATIS! Thanks man, for not charging us the $ 2 for an additional bowl of your crap chips. To be fair, he was a nice waiter, and apologized for the chips confusion. Meh. What are you gonna do, right? So the entrees come. I ordered a combination plate of Taco, Enchilada, and Burrito. Horrid. Flavorless. Just… not good. That same runny, crummy tomato sauce is poured on top of the enchilada and burrito. The tortillas that they were wrapped in felt and tasted like they had just come out of the Old El Paso wrapper without the benefit of being warmed up. And the Taco… man. The Taco. Soggy. No cheese! No onion. Again no flavor. Ye Gods if you can’t figure out how to make a taco, if TACOBELL has you beat HANDSDOWN in the Taco-Making department, if you can’t even swing what about a billion American moms slap together a few times a month with some chop meat and store bought taco shells… well, you better pack it in. Horrible. Offensive. And $ 22. Next up, my son Matthews Crab filled enchiladas. Oh wow. That was bad. Fishy, runny(again, that description fits) and tasting vaguely rancid. My 16 year old son, who never met a plate he didn’t clear, and a meal he wasn’t really into, didn’t even finish it. I tasted it, and couldn’t find a napkin to spit it into(alas, no extra napkins. I guess having to ask for silverware twice didn’t guarantee a fresh napkin). My Sue and Julia both ordered fajitas. They kind of liked the steak, though to my mind, it was tough and surprisingly over-salted. I guess they were searching for SOMETHING to like! And then, the bill. Just about $ 140 with tax. Really? For that!!! It’s insulting to a very high degree. Again, standards. This place apparently has none. Thank God we didn’t get margaritas. Can you imagine, if they couldn’t get a taco right, how they would butcher the booze? And that’s the thing, really. At what point did the owners of this dump actually sit down and eat a meal here? What led them to believe that a meal so lacking in taste, professionalism, and value was ok? I mean, again, Taco Bell beats this place. BADLY! On the Border, in Hicksville, makes their OWNGODDAMTORTILLAS! Seriously! They have some poor bastard standing back there pouring mixture onto a press, and are knocking out some awesome fresh tortillas and chips. ANDONTHEBORDERIS A CHAIN! ANDCRAPPY! But it beats hell out of this place. Don’t go here. Seriously. It’s not good, it’s overly expensive, and there is such a lack of attention, and lack of accountability that you will regret it. Sure, I suppose someone will refute this, and tell me «OHNO! WE went there and it was AWESOME!!» Great. I’m glad your experience was 100 times better than mine. But unfortunately I’m not giving this place another shot. My standards are too damn high, and apparently theirs are too low. I mean it. Don’t go to Salsa Shack.

Totally coming back! This place was great. Tucked inside the TOBAY beach parking lot, it sits next to a mini golf attraction and overlooks the bay. Atmosphere was pretty and the deck was really clean but I got rather eaten alive by mosquitoes. You could go dressy or casual to this place. Lots of mexican/seafood. I ordered the seafood paella which was filling even between two people sharing it. The wait staff seemed knowledgeable and worked as a team. Portions seemed to be large all around. Came late on a weeknight. Was not busy at all. A nice go-to spot for Long Island beach goers!
