Really great Ice Cream at a good price. The look of the place is underwhelming but the ice cream is great.

There’s nothing quite like the taste of quality homemade ice cream, and K’s Brain Freeze is knocking it right out of the park. You can immediately tell the difference between the ice cream here and the ice cream served up at chains like Carvel, Friendly’s, or DQ. If you’ve never experienced a great, but often hard-to-find flavor like Cherry Vanilla, you’re in for a real treat here. It’s the best I’ve ever had. Even simple flavors like strawberry are a cut above the rest, with large, deliciously fresh chunks of strawberry in every bite. My family, of course, are all chocolate lovers. The boy opted for the Chocolate Lovers, and my daughter worked down a huge cup of Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. Wifey got fancy with the Espresso Chip, and let’s just say the four of us were in ice cream heaven. We discovered K’s on Unilocal after finishing a 3-mile hike in nearby Cheesequake State Park. It was a rare 70-degree day in November, and we were all pretty hot and sweaty from the hike. Well, chalk up another win for the Unilocalers who put this on the map, because I’d have never found the place otherwise. K’s is tucked away in a non-descript strip mall just off of Matawan Road, across from an abandoned Pizza Hut location. The owner is the nicest guy in the world, allowing us to try all the flavors before committing, and then loading the kids up with some extra candy leftover from Halloween. I love supporting small business owners like this. It’s a big win for everyone. Can’t wait to come back.

Best ice cream in NJ hands down. Tucked in a run down strip mall, this is the kind of ice cream that should have lines out the door. But doesn’t. You won’t be sorry.

SICKSICKSICKCREAMYICECREAM!!! I probably tried over 10 flavors(I’m not a fan of peanut butter but holly s!+!!!) Amazing customer service, who cares if a liquor store is next door or pizza Hut is right in front, this place has the right prices and a lot lot lot of ice cream. I normally don’t write reviews but we need to keep small business alive and better when the owner is somebody who loves what he does and doesn’t jacked up the prices, this place has amazing flavors and the price is very fair, no need of a live band, while I was eating the ice cream my brain started to play songs itself, no need of live music.

Hands down. Best. Ice Cream. Ever! First of all this was my first time here and it was so amazing. The owner is super nice and he let me try like a million flavors. He was even asking my opinion of combos. This hidden gem is a must go to. It’s a shame not more people go here!

Delicious Homemade Ice Cream!!! The staff is extremely nice and they’re busy every time I’ve went. There is some local competition, but they both stand up very well. Went about 5 times since my recent move to the area… Guilty pleasures lol

Regular looking ice cream place with a very good selection, friendly staff and pretty darn good ice cream. Not incredible but very good. Had a couple of chocolate combo scoops, mocha coffee and vanilla fudge.

Hoffmans you have MAJOR competition. Brain Freeze Almond Joy is Amazing. So is the one with all the nuts. Pete the owner is a true business man and wants to share a taste of anything u express an interest in. Two other great points of our experience was no teens with bad attitudes and no wait. This is a MUST if u r in the area

I went in here tonight with my 4 year old son. I didn’t realize it was cash only so as I went to pay with my card the owner says don’t worry about it you can pay next time… needless to say I was shocked. I know their business has been slow due to the bridge construction. So I told him I’d run to the bank and he said don’t worry because I’d be charged the bank fee. So again being so taken back I went to the liquor store and took money out of the atm. I went in and paid and that was that. I just thought that everyone should know what kind of place this is. Well done brain freeze. Very impressive. It was also the best strawberry ice cream I’ve ever had!!!

We stumbled upon this local place on the way back from Cheesequake State Park. I walked in with a group of 28 teenagers and they were great! The owner was there alone and made sure everyone got what they wanted. It could have been crazy but he was very friendly and courteous. He took great care of us and let us kind of take over. The quality of the ice cream was amazing and I really enjoyed my Fluffernutter ice cream. All of it was really creamy and had creative flavors. If I am in the area again I would definitely return, but maybe call ahead with a group :)

My girlfriend and I went to K’s Brain Freeze last night. To begin, the location of this shop was in a sketchy little strip mall that was basically deserted by the time we got there(around 830 pm). They had some sort of performance or something in the parking lot, but there was only about ten to fifteen people watching this show at that time. Next, the staff was pretty friendly and they offered us samples of any ice cream we wanted to try. I guess this is the policy of the store judging by other reviews. Finally, the ice cream… There was probably around 16 choices of ice cream. My girlfriend and I try to eat well and attempt to stay away from any GMO ingredients, artificial sweetners, dyes, etc. We obviously wanted to get ice cream and chose to go to K’s because they say they’re a homemade ice cream shop. We figured they should use fairly clean ingredients since they advertise as being«homemade». Now, I’m not 100% certain what the ingredients are made up of, but the mint chocolate ice cream was green and normally that means that dyes are used in the ice cream. Why they’re in a «homemade» ice cream is beyond me. Not a huge deal to most people, but it was strange to me. I opted for the caramel crunch ice cream. It wasn’t bad, but I didn’t taste caramel or a crunch in it.(Lol) Guess that was my mistake for not sampling it first. I also found it funny that their sauces were bottled Hershey’s chocolate syrup and Smucker’s caramel. That I am sure of because they were sitting on the back counter. High fructose syrup anyone? In conclusion, I would not go back to this place because of the sketchy location and in my opinion, just an average ice cream. For $ 10, I’d rather go to a grocery store and split a pint of ice cream with my girlfriend. At least I’ll know the ingredients.

We went to K’s Brain Freeze after dinner at Eastern Sushi. they are in the same plaza. The owner was super friendly. He offered me samples of 5 or 6, maybe 7 flavors? They were all delicious. For some reason I decided to get 2 flavors he did not recommend. The flavors I chose(pistachio and chocolate peanut butter cup) were not as good as the ones he gave me samples of. As my wife said, well you’re the idiot. Very creamy ice cream. Very good interesting flavors. The owner could not be more personable. The inside of the place was a little dreary.

Good ice cream, good service. Lots of creative twists on some flavors — I tried Devil Dog, cookie dough, and PB Oreo. It’s seriously creamy and rich, so bring your lactaid, but was all tasty(and yes, they do give samples). Servings are generous — they packed 3 flavors in my medium cup. Owner said they will be having a live outdoor music series, which in theory sounds like a great idea, but this cute ice cream place is in a weird strip mall that seems deserted after dark, save for a Pizza Hut and a sketchy bar/liquor store that blasts dance music and reeks of cigarettes inside. This shop would be great on Main St in Matawan! Think of the foot traffic you could get there, especially with live music. Maloney’s could even partner up for some stout floats… or serve the ice cream for dessert. Just saying. Minus 1 star for: –cash only –NOT a fan of the location. The liquor store/bar a storefront down(where I used the ATM) is seriously sketchy.

My wife and I are recent imports to the area and with the weather turning for the better it was imperative that we find an ice cream spot to call our own. This place is a home run. Peter, the owner, took us on a tour of his home made ice cream flavors and made a few suggestions based on our preferences. The flavors are innovative and unique, you won’t find these anywhere else. The customer service is excellent as well. Skip the Ben and Jerry’s and get here quick before Old Bridge’s hidden gem becomes a NJ classic.

Stopped in on Mother’s Day for a special treat, and boy did K’s Brain Freeze deliver! The Strawberry Shortcake was the best we’ve had, and the Toasted Almond was perfection. Even the kids had amazing flavors, including the Funfetti Oreo, which should not have been as good as it was(though we lack a good reason for thinking so). Our only disappointment was tasting the Almond Joy flavor afterwards, discovering it to be, quite possibly, the greatest ice cream ever created. Self control and a quickly approaching beach vacation prevented the purchase of a quart of Amaretto Cherry Chunk. We will be back very soon for both!

How can the best ice cream spot in nj have no line? Must be because so many people pass up this place and have not tried, in my honest opinion, the BEST ice cream in NJ. Yes, strong words but I must say I love my ice cream and this is easily the creamiest most delicious ice cream you’ll ever try in the state. Pete(owner), is a nice guy that loves to make awesome QUALITY ice cream. Service is always nice and will let you try as many flavors you need to make a decision. So find the time and swing by this ice cream place tucked in a strip mall and taste real ice cream.

If you haven’t been to K’s Brain Freeze, WHATAREYOUWAITINGFOR? Do you enjoy denying yourself amazing ice cream? Stop being so mean to yourself! I can’t say enough great things about this place. Once you try it, you will feel the same. Some of my favorite flavors are: Mocha Mud Pie, Almond Joy(OMG, just try it), Fluffernutter– mix with Mocha Mud Pie for a special delight! They are great about letting you try samples, too. They also make ice cream sandwiches and cakes(with whatever flavors you want in them) and if you are REALLY lucky, you will get there on a day that they are making an ice cream donut sandwich! I will say it again, ICECREAMDONUTSANDWICH. Now, why are you still reading this? There is a scoop(or 3) with your name on it!
