A great place wow… the food was fresh and delicious. The portions were big and definitely worth the price. We will be back. We had honey buffalo shrimp for appetizer. For entrees we had tilapia francese and pecan crusted perch. Amazing!

Ordered scallops and fried clams last night. Was given shrimp and scallops. The shrimp were incredibly dry like they had been fried to death and then put under a heat lamp. I thought there were tater tots in with the shrimp. Turns out they were the scallops. Everything was covered with old bay, probably trying to cover up the fact that the shrimp was old. This place used to be really good. Perfectly fried food with great flavor but for the last few years they just are not. I try to support my local establishments but I just can’t do it any more. I guess I am a key port fishery customer now.

We were introduced to Peter’s by dear friends several years ago. We have been faithful customers ever since and have taken other couples there and recommended many friends to enjoy this restaurant. The host is always friendly and courteous and greets us like old friends when we arrive. The wait staff has always been courteous and knowledgeable, as well as attentive to excellent service. The food has never disappointed us and is always fresh and delicious. The portions are generous so we always bring home leftovers to enjoy another time. Yes, the décor is ’ diner-like’ but we go there for the food and service. We have been to too many other restaurants over the years that offered beautifully appointed décor but less than great food, so I choose the food over the décor any day. Maybe for a truly special occasion we might opt for another place, but I can assure you the food would not be any better than at Peter’s!

I had the Fried Flounder, Lobster Bisque, Mini Crab Cakes. Everything was great except one complaint, the food was not hot enough. My husband had the Stuffed Flounder and it was very delicious, but he also said that the food could have been hotter. However, the Gelato was SUPERB!

The food was amazing. The fish was not only tasty but so fresh. Three of the people in my group all had the jumbo shrimp stuffed with crabmeat. Those shrimp were jumbo and they were stuffed with crab meat. Not like other places who boast crab meat when all you would get is bread stuffing. I had the Seafood Boat with scallops and shrimp. There were actually full butterfly shrimp & full scallops on top of a huge piece of haddock. The way it’s described on the menu is just as mouthwatering on your plate. The broccoli was so so delicious as well and I choose the risotto and that was just devine. On top of that we had the calamari & clams oreganata for an appetizer which was also cooked and seasoned to perfection. The staff was so friendly and the chef(Scott) came to our table not only once but twice! This has just become an absolute great place to dine. Go, you will not be disappointed. I just read some of the negative reviews below and I’m so glad I hadn’t read them before dining there or else I would have missed out on an amazing dinner. Yes the place could use a remodel but everything is clean and in very good condition. Maybe before you dine, call to ask if the chef Scott is on that night. I can only say that his method of cooking was spot-on and because of him We all would go again & again. Plus the staff was so friendly oh and that Cole slaw was so good too! And by the way, It’s a BYOB place. Enjoy – as we surely did!

It was just OK. Our waitress was not familiar with menu items. She politely repeated«I don’t know» to each question and tried her best to get us to talk to the chef. I wanted to keep carbs to a minimum so opted for a veg instead of rice. The only vegetable she offered was stewed zucchini. It was ok but somehow my friends food came with broccoli. Huh? Anyway the food appears appetizing and Fred Flintstone size pieces of garlic bread piled up on the table. The bread became overwhelming as well as the amount of cornmeal breading on the fried seafood combo. My friends and I debated for a while weather the food was fresh or frozen. It was pretty good for frozen and not so great if it was fresh. Go to a local diner for this level of quality and have their salad bar with your meal. I won’t be swimming with the fishery again.

3.5 is more accurate. Everyone was very welcoming and friendly. We were warned of a longish wait but I’m ok with that for fresh food. I had the grouper that was cooked in a wax bag. It was very good and flavorful, not over cooked. The broccoli was a little over cooked. My wife had the double(and expensive) lobster tails. They were over cooked which was why I didn’t give them more stars. Good food, friendly service so will be back.

I had the grouper cartocci and it was excellent. Very moist and in an oil/garlic seasoning. Kudos to the new chef. We also had the crab cakes. For dessert a truly wonderful strawberry shortcake in a walnut rum sauce. I was dieting and planned to take only a few bites but couldn’t resist eating it all with my wife.

Went Saturday night with my husband and sister. FIrst time there for all of us. Loved it! I had salmon, husband had the monkfish special and sister had seafood over pasta. Everything was fresh and plenty of it. And the service was outstanding. Will definitely be back.

My boyfriend and I were greeted with smiles and a basket of focaccia bread before we even sat down. This restaurant looks like a cute little diner that’s been converted. I was afraid that a fishery would have a yucky fishy smell, but this place smells nice and fresh. Great food and even better service. Delicious lobster bisque for $ 5! We’re definitely going back for all you can eat crab legs.

One of our favorite places to dine. Great fresh seafood and portion size. Great value and service. What they could improve on is the dated décor and the complimentary bread. The bread is bland, heavy and gets hard. Something lighter would be a better compliment their delicious dinners!

Read both good and bad reviews but wanted to see for myself. Have to agree with the not so good reviews. Dinner was not cheap nor was it that great. Have had better fish dishes at other Fish restaurants.

Good fresh seafood. We had two sandwiches for lunch. One fried scallop sandwich and one fried haddock sandwich. The coleslaw, sweet potato, and french fries were all pretty good. We’ve been coming here for years and we love it here.

Went here after a day at the shore hoping to find some good seafood but was not thrilled when we recevied our Oysters or main dish. I’d call it average at best and will give them 2 stars since it has dated décor and average service and food, I probably will not come here again.

We have been there several times, and as a mostly vegetarian, my choices are sort of limited. However! The quality of the service and the food this last time was terrible. On the bright side, it is a cute place with a good atmosphere. That’s it. The bread for the table, was too sweet. It looked like it was torn off a larger piece. The dipping oil was very thin and Tasteless, like corn oil. The appetizer, the crabby mushrooms, was bland. I had to spike it with tabasco sauce which was on the table. For presentation, two of the mushrooms were smaller than the other two. What’s with that! Our meal took a long time to get to us. We ran out of conversation. People who came in after us were served. Our server finally came over and told us she checked, and that it would be another«10 minutes.» We waited around 45 minutes for our meals. It was uncomfortable for us. The dishes looked great, but my blackened salmon was burnt. Blackened meat should be a flavorful, spicy treat. This was Burnt. The skin was so charred I couldn’t eat it. When my husband told the busser it was burnt, we got a «sorry» without so much as a look. What kind of «screw-up» causes this to happen! To make it up, we did receive a nice piece of cheesecake. Small compensation for a poorly treated patrons. We will not be returning.

I found the old guy RUDE!!! I think he’s Pete. He interrupted me during my phone call for something very stupid … that could have waited until I was done. Or he could have politely gestured. The guy is a real idiot. I surely deducted it… NO tip! As far as the food, its just OK. I have had way better. The prices for that food is way overpriced! I’m rich… so if I say it… then it’s really just not worth what you are eating. The times that I have been there the waitresses were horrible — slow and lazy. They all sit at this table and goof off … while I’m sitting there waiting for condiments. So I had to get up and break up their lazy break. The one I had today, she was OK. But still slow. I’m not sure what barn these people came from… By the way, I’m a successful owner of a corporation. This mom and pop business is not recommended.

We visited this restaurant today and I wasn’t too impressed-the prices certainly don’t match the quality. The lobster bisque was very watery and hadn’t had the alcohol cooked out of it long enough. As for our entrées, I had the stuffed shrimp. The crab filling was overloaded with onions and peppers and had little actual crab meat. My side included 2 pieces a broccoli. The other diner I was with ordered the broiled seafood platter and most items looked previously frozen and they weren’t even heated properly. I certainly wouldn’t head back here.

we went here for valentines day since it was snowing hard and it’s close to our home it is more like a diner not a good choice we thought we would try it i had the scallops & a baked potato the scallops were gritty with sand(not cleaned good enough) the baked potato was a little burnt on the outside my husband had the salmon & baked potato his fish was ok and the potato was burnt too not a favorite meal especially since we hoped it would be a really good seafood place place was too dark for an afternoon & it was too cold like they didn’t want to turn the heat up oh and we thougt the prices were a little too high for what they gave us not enough of food will not go again

Really good seafood. Nothing fancy, but tasty food. I love the crusted perch. Service is not the best, but tolerable. Did the all you can eat crab legs and enjoyed that as well. Wouldn’t recommend this place for a first date since the décor is outdated and the crowd is older, but overall decent place.

Giving this place one star is generous. My boyfriend and I recently moved to the Matawan area and decided to try Peters Fishery after work. It was a Monday and the billboard outside offers«all-you-can-eat crab legs on Mondays and Tuesdays». We were told that it was unavailable but were not given a reason why. I decided to go with the Stuffed Flounder. The fish was dry and chewy and the stuffing was salty and cold. Honestly the best(and probably the only edible) part of that dish was the baked potato. My boyfriend got scallops and shrimp over pasta. It looked promising when it arrived to the table, but one bite revealed that it was nothing more than a jarred, overly sweet sauce with overcooked seafood. After our horrible meal, we just wanted to get out of there. Our waitresses left us sitting and waiting 20 minutes for the bill while they went outside and did the ice bucket challenge. Bottom line: Gross food, unprofessional service. We will not be back.
