This place was okay. I don’t think I’d come back. Sitting out side at night by the water is such a dumb idea haha you just get chewed by mosquitoes

Were told by a local to eat here, sorry we took the advice. A decent band was playing we asked to sit outside. I ordered clams and friend ordered Sea Bass. Her fish was good veggies were frozen and mushy. Rice way over cooked unsalted. Clams were flavorless, when asked to inside our waitress got the plate and threw it in the trash, rolling her eyes. I would avoid this place except for a drink. AWFUL

Old Florida is what I think of Berts. Beer is cold had the black & blue burger, and it was great! Music was good. Definitely coming back here!

Great burgers. I mean GREAT burgers. Fun place. Good music, fun people, a wonderful view right on the water. Service varies from excellent to mediocre.

Great grouper salad — good drinks — efficient service. Cute spot in a row of shops and places to see in Sanibel.

My friends and I went to Bert’s after a long day of kayaking. The music lured us in as we all love steel drums. However, we were quickly ridiculed by the steel drum player for taking pictures on our phones(it was a bachelorette trip) and laughing too loudly. Our laughter and conversation was perceived as rude because we were not giving the drummer our undivided attention. He continually called us out for«having fun without him», making us feel incredibly uncomfortable. Needless to say, we left and went to greener pastures. Hopefully he was just having a bad day and isn’t always such a Debbie downer.

This place sucks. Good view, but left hungry. Small portions. Dirty tables. Poor service.

No. Just no. Ridiculous small portions, had the beer battered cod basket. I swear Long John Silver is better, I’m not kidding. I’m a local and I guess you pay for the view, which is ok if you sit outside, but it is small space. Wife said buffalo tenders were average and cheesesteak from another guest said it was awful.

One of the best grouper sandwiches around! Right on the water, this mom & pop is sure to please. Lack of parking is the only issue, but that’s only because it’s so popular!

Food was delicious. The coconut and regular fried shrimp were great. The grouper sandwich was perfect. Mom tried the smelt and loved it. Fish tacos were also a hit. Waterfront seating. Your choice inside or out. I would recommend outside if the weather suits. Inside needs a little refreshing, moldy smell. Docking available for your boats. Shirts are great for a souvenir. Fun place to stop and take a break.

Great view. Unique is an understatement. Food is better than average. The key lime pie is top shelf!

While visiting my aunt up in Cape Coral we made a pit-stop at Bert’s. Now to get to Bert’s it is AWFUL on a weekend. Two lane road was filled with bumper to bumper traffic. Keep in mind the restaurant is situated on the main road, so parking is limited. Lucky for us Bert patron’s we have parking right across the street! When you walk up to Bert’s I can see why it’s sort of tricky, there isn’t a real entrance just kind of a hallway you walk into and BOOM there is the restaurant. All the waiters and waitresses are dressed in pirate outfits. I ordered the chicken wings, hot with garlic. They were crispy, well done and the sauce was great. It seems like they make their own bleu cheese dipping sauce which I loved. My family ordered the fried seafood sampler and it was equally as good. Before we left I had to have their key lime pie and that definitely sealed the deal! You cannot leave without taking one home!

A buddy and I stopped for lunch here today. We sat outside, and had a decent view of the water. Actually got to see a couple of dolphins while we were eating. This place is what you would consider a dive, but the food was good, and the music was, too. I had the blackened grouper appetizer, which is market priced. The fish comes with tartar sauce. Both I and my buddy agreed it was really good. Mike ordered the fish and chips, which are fried. The breading is super thin, so you get a good taste of the fish. We liked it, too. The chips were handmade, and were so-so. We sat on the west side deck, and it tilts toward the water about 10 degrees, it felt like. It would be nice if they levelled that portion of the deck… Parking is tough if the island is busy, but we got lucky and pulled right into a spot in front of the restaurant. If you’re looking for local flavor, a non-chain restaurant, and a view of the water, give them a try. We will return to sample more of their fare.

One star for the fish sandwich. One star for the cheap drinks. The environment is nice if you sit by the water. Bathrooms were clean. The cons here were strong. The establishment is severely under staffed. 2 hours for the meal when eating was only 15 mins. Patrons at different tables were talking to each other about the situation.

First here is some chit chat and tips before the food. If you go, go by boat. It is easier to park a boat than a car. Plus the view is much better and safer. If you drive go there during the less crowded times. Weekdays and in the morning. In front of Bert’s there are only about 8 car spaces.(no handicapped was seen)… Back in if possible. Your car bumper is literally less than 10 inches from the roadway. The speed is 35MPH. The best way to enter or exit is when a pedestrian is using the crosswalk which is about 25 yards away.(Lights & warning signals come on so you may make your escape.) Is it worth the struggle… Oh Yeah. The staff are excellent. The view and serenity of the water is great. I order a sweet ice tea. MMMMMM sweet and cold. They had a good daily menu specials, but I chose fish and chips. It was more like fish nuggets and fresh potatoes chips. The nuggets were fried to a golden brown with only a minimum of coating. The flesh was hot steamy and so tasty. The chips were homemade potato style chips… Sliced oh so thin and cooked to a crispy goodness.(It was a lower than usual humid day which added to the crunch.) I ate outside it was so comfortable. Yet be warned they allow the lower caste of humanity to smoke cancer laden cigarettes in the fresh air on the patio. Ahh the homemade coleslaw was a delight for my tongue. I only wish I had a larger portion. Over all great food, great view, and great staff.

Had ourselves some fried smelts and corona, sitting by the water, listening to the steel drums! I love the vibe of Matlacha!

We used to go here because I like to dine near water. It’s just happened too many times. Plates look dirty. Food tasted as if it had freezer burn. We r in Florida. Not that difficult to get fresh grouper. Done with, Berts.

We were specifically looking for a spot on the water where we could eat fish tacos. This place was recommended by our kayak guide, so we ventured in. From the outside, it looks uninviting and worse than a dive! Don’t let that scare you. The solid blue double doors on the outside are the front doors even though they look like back doors. You could also enter by walking around the right side directly to the dockside seating area. Regardless, just walk in! Seat yourself and one of the friendly wait staff will be there shortly to serve you. Beer is priced reasonably, and so is the food. We both ordered tacos — fish tacos and shrimp tacos, as well as a side of Beach Bread. Oooooh, YUM! Get the Beach Bread! You MUST order the Beach Bread! It’s bread with garlic, blue cheese, and mozzarella all melted and topped with bits of tomatoes. Soooo good! The tacos were also yummy, but I do wish they were made with cabbage, not lettuce. The best part about this place is the view. It’s located right on the water and there are a ton of seating options either inside or outside that provide a water view. It’s a casual spot for good eats, and will likely be our #1 spot to return when we come back to Matlacha!

Second visit here the food was better. The fried oysters basket was excellent! Live music and cold beer during our lunch with a beautiful waterfront view inside the place with good A/C blasting is a reason for a great review of this place.

I’m rating this place as a restaurant, not as a bar. This place would be great to come to for live music & some drinks. We stopped in on a Wednesday for the«all you can eat fish». They have it on Wednesday & Friday. Our server was very friendly & fast. The bar/grill is located on the water, with half the building out over the water. You’re able to sit inside or outside. I’d vote for sitting outside because of the view & the inside is pretty dated. The patio/dock seating area offers a great view of the water. It’s neat to watching the dolphins & birds. It only took about 7 minutes for us to get our food. For $ 9.99 you get all you can eat fried fish, fries, a dinner roll & cole slaw. First up, the fish. The fish is a lightly breaded fish filet that has a great flavor, it’s not overly greasy, but not dry at all. The batter is crispy & light. The French fries are probably from a bag, they were okay, some of them were a little squishy, I would’ve liked crispier fries. The cole slaw was nothing to write home about, it didn’t have much of a flavor, maybe a little more sweet would help it. The dinner roll was dense & cold, I didn’t eat it. It was a LOT of food. I had one extra piece of fish but I only had it because I felt like if it’s all you can eat, you should give it your best shot! Overall the fish was fresh & hot, not to greasy & very flavorful. The rest was okay. I’d eat here again but it’s not on my ‘must have’ list.
