I think we have stopped at just about every single stop on the way back from WI and IL. We met up with my parents on the way home for breakfast. They stopped for gas and luckily, the Hearty Platter was attached. Very reasonable prices and decent food choices. Lunch and breakfast buffets. We ordered off the menu and J chose the lunch buffet. I ordered the eggs benedict with sausage, but it came out with ham which was okay. The ham was super thick. Mom ordered the«double up» with two eggs, pancakes and bacon. Unfortunately the pancakes were cold. The American fries were more like scalloped potatoes which was odd, but they were alright. Dad ordered the eggs, toast and hash browns. J ordered the lunch buffet which had salad items, rolls, turkey and mashed potatoes, gravy and the other typical diner items. Service was good, but food seemed to take a long time to come out. Food is decent and your typical diner choices. Grandpa one three plastic balls outside for our little one on the claw machine. It says, «winner every time». In our case x 3 the thing kept spitting out wins.

What’s the Hearty Platter? A truck stop. I’ve been to some fantastic truck stop restaurants. However, the Hearty Platter isn’t one of them. My wife and I ordered burgers. Hers was a mushroom swiss burger, mine was a bacon cheddar burger. As we’re both gluten-free, we ordered our burgers without buns. What came to the table? Two plain cheeseburgers with no bun. The waiter took off in almost a sprint once the plates hit the table. It took us about five minutes to track down our waiter in the extremely unbusy restaurant. We explained that we did not get what we ordered. He suggested he would go back and get the toppings we asked for, and, about ten minutes later, they arrived. The food was very basic, nothing to write home about, and certainly nothing special, especially for the price. Fair food and terrible service earns one star.

Good, solid truckstop-style breakfast. Friendly service with a waitress that encourages you to eat your orange slices. :)

Stopping on the way back from visiting relatives, my husband and I just wanted something inexpensive and filling. It was delicious. The service was quick and courteous. The restaurant was packed due to it just beginning the lunch buffet, which looked great, but eating something THAT filling before driving would be a tad unwise. I got the hot beef plate, it came with mashed potatoes and gravy. It was incredibly tender and perfect. I couldn’t even eat it all, I am having the other half for lunch today! I would eat there again. Despite being on the other side of a truck stop, it did NOT feel like a truck stop, it felt like a quaint diner, do not believe the other review that said it felt like a truck stop. It doesn’t. A lot of the locals eat here, I didn’t see a single trucker the entire time I was there. If the locals love it, that has to tell you something.

This place isn’t too bad. Prices are decent, and portions are good. I recommend getting the chicken dinner(or Friday fish) to go. It is a truck stop and sometimes it’s better to eat it in an atmosphere that isn’t so … truck-stopy. They also serve breakfast food all day. Their ranch dressing is also very good.

When in Wisconsin, do as the natives do and eat cheese. Don’t eat just any kind of cheese but deep-fried, mouth-gasmic, artery-clogging cheddar curd goodness! Our server suggested these after approaching and greeting us. How could I possibly say no? You are correct I couldn’t. I gave into the pressure immediately. i was pleased with my selection tremendously. The batter was not to heavy and you could tell they were fried up in fresh oil. For my main course, I had an omelet with sausage, peppers, onions, and Swiss cheese. The omelet was nothing to write home about as it was rather underwhelming. The hash browns were of he shredded variety and they were done to a perfect crispness. The side of pancakes were not very heavy. My sweetie had the eggs benedict which I also sampled and they were very good. The hollandaise sauce was not even close to being real but regardless of what it was made out of, it was pretty damn tasty. Our server did a very good job of attending to us. She was very attentive and friendly and did a good job of keeping us happy.
