John Robert’s Spa

I visited this salon for the first time today to have my shoulder-​length hair cut super short. My stylist, Mary, was very friendly and had a lot of experience (over 20 years!). She crafted a beautiful short pixie cut for me that I absolutely love. The salon was very clean and inviting and the staff was cheerful and knowledgeable. I’ve been getting compliments on my hair all day and just had to say thank you to Mary and the crew at John Robert’s…I’ll definitely be back!

Lakea gave me the best massage I have ever had in my life! I’ve been to her twice and she knows exactly what she is doing and doesn’t just massage, but knows the body so well. She’s the best!

As a visitor to Mayfield heights for business I got my haircut at this place based on a recommendation from a co-​worker. I was in a bit of a pinch for time but needed a relatively simple cut.
This salon is beautiful, reasonable priced, the staff is accommodating and pleasant. My attendant was ready as scheduled for my appointment. They were not pushy with product on the way out the door (which was good cause who likes that anyhow?)
Like I said I did not have a color — just a relatively simple cut to clean up the shoddy job done by the last person who cut my hair. That being said 60% of the people in the salon at the time I was there were getting color treatments done — perhaps read some other reviews if that is what you are looking for.
I hesitated to give this place 4 or 5 stars. I mean I was impressed… however as I don’t; really know the area and what is the norm I elected to give it 4 stars. This place is as good as my regular salon in Toronto and MUCH better/​more professional that more EXPENSIVE salons I have been to in Montréal, Las Vegas, Vancouver.
I am in Mayfield Heights rarely… but if and when I am back… well hopefully I need to get my haircut!!!

Incredible waxes, great hair (book with Heather!), soothing pedicures…

I have been going to this salon for several years. I have never had a bad experience. The reception staff are always friendly and they remember your name and who you are there to see. The stylist who does my hair is terrific and gives me a consistently great haircut and color, and is friendly to boot. When I get a manicure or pedicure, it is relaxing, clean and lasts a long time.
I have no plans to go elsewhere, even if I had a coupon!

To me, JR is like a bad relationship. I always swear I’m never going to return, that I’m done, it’s over, this was the last time– but somehow I find myself coming back.
I’ve been familiar with this place for years. I think my biggest problem with JR is that it’s a complete, and total rip off.
I have long, curly hair. That being said, I absolutely NEVER have good experiences at salons, JR included. One time I came to get my hair blown out, with a simple tease and VERY SIMPLE styling (I never ask for anything complicated just because I know no one will ever be able to do it). As the lady was doing my hair, she asked me if I was going anywhere special and I mentioned that I had an event that night. Little did I know, because of this small talk, she charged me an EXTRA $ 50 which is called a «special occasion» charge. So not only did the blow out cost $ 40, but I had to pay an extra $ 50 for them to tease my hair and play with it a little. Not to mention, when I got to my event that night, my hair completely fell apart and I ended up putting it up in a pony tail. That being said, I have never gotten my hair done here since.
I do come here for bikini waxes, which are just OK. They do their job, but they are definitely not the best bikini waxes I’ve had – there is minor bruising/​bleeding/​redness afterwards. When I’ve gotten bikini waxes at other places, I’ve never had those side effects. Also, when I lived in NYC, I think the most I ever paid for a BRAZILIAN bikini wax was like 30 – 40 dollars. Guess how much it cost here? Eighty. dollars. I can’t believe it. Twice the price. Unfortunately, I’ve been coming back for waxes just because I can’t find any other place. So congratulations JR, you still have my business. For now.

So I dug up an old business card from a woman who works at JR. I was really impressed by the eyebrow wax service she gave me. She was so experienced that she raised her prices since the last time I saw her.
I scheduled an eyebrow wax with the same woman, hoping for the same amazing service I’ve received in the past. I was very sad to learn the hard way that things are much different now. I checked in 10 minutes early and waited on the couch with a fresh glass of water. Despite being 10 minutes early, my waxer was 10 minutes late. Upon leaving my glass of water, I noticed last minute that I was drinking out of a dirty glass. The glass had lipstick marks on the rim of the previous woman (or fashionably fierce man) who used the glass. I was grossed out.
My waxer seemed to be speaking to me in hyper-​speed. Asking me what I’m doing with my life, what i’m doing back in the area, etc… which is nice of her to ask, but it felt rushed and it seemed like she was only asking to convince me that she’s making a connection in the 7 minutes it took from the lobby to wax to car. The eyebrow wax itself wasn’t the most beautiful arch like she gave me last time, and when i got home, I discovered they were uneven. One side was thicker than the other.
Yes, yes, I know I get to look into a mirror when I’m done at the salon, but the woman was so quick and direct that I felt like I didn’t have time to really look at the service. I felt I needed to get in, get waxed and get out so she could get to her next appointment.
I’ll NEVER go back to John Robert’s again. The overall experience was terrible and not worth the $ 20 + tip when I could get the same service, done with more TLC somewhere else. I drank out of a dirty glass and I feel like they squeezed me in between two appointments to squeeze my money from my wallet into their pockets.

Love this Salon. Went here after reading the reviews and was not at all disappointed! I have gone for two hair cuts. Excellent service from Antoinetta. I’m sad she will be moving to Strongsville when they open, but I am positive I will either find another stylist there, or make the trek out to Strongsville!

Visited John Robert’s for a bikini wax before my vacation. The esthetician seemed a bit uncomfortable waxing my bikini area which I found odd. Perhaps I was her first, not too sure. She did a terrible job at making me feel comfortable, not much talking, just instruction on where and when to move/​lift my legs. But whatever, she finished and I went to pay.
The front desk woman was just awful. When I went to the desk she was talking with another staff member behind the desk. She acknowledged my presence by holding out her hand for payment. She never looked at me, never spoke to me, never smiled, nothing. I’ve never been treated like that in my life. The other staff member looked at me and it was clear she noticed. I should have said something but it wasn’t even worth it. Thanks for making me feel so unwanted. Never again will I visit your salon.

I’ve had a couple bikini waxes and many haircuts here.
The waxes were good. Nothing out of this world but they were clean and profesional and they do not double dip. I come here when I’m home for the holidays and away from my regular waxer and have never had a problem with the results.
The haircuts, though, are phenomenal. I go to Mia and she is wonderful every time. She is one of the few people I trust with my hair. She is friendly, but professional, and puts you at ease. And if there’s something I don’t like, she changes it easily and doesn’t get offended.
Everyone at the salon is well groomed but not pretentious. And they tell you what products are good for your hair but never push anything on you.
If you’re new to the area or just want to try a different place, you can’t go wrong here.

I came to John Robert’s today for a full leg wax and was in and out in 45 minutes! The aesthetician, Andrea, was very professional and worked at lightning speed. I’m Jewish and Italian, folks, so hairier than most. There is no way that she should have been able to complete the job as fast as she did, so I was pleasantly surprised when we were finishing up and I looked at the clock.
$ 60 for a full leg wax is a reasonable price, as many spas around here charge $ 80 – 90. The salon was gorgeous and had a very relaxed atmosphere. I really enjoyed the music, which was a meditative track of Buddhist bells. If that’s not your thing, I suggest you bring an iPod. Andrea was friendly and put me at immediate ease. She was effective at distracting me with conversation and silences were not awkward.
This was my first visit to JR, but I’m looking forward to returning for future waxes.

I stubled accross JR when I was looking for someplace closer to my wedding venue to get my hair done on the big day. I called in asking for someone who would be good at a wedding style and they suggested Shannon. I went in to see her a few months in advanced to get a cut and color and talk over the hairstyle for my big day. I did a seperate appointment to play with the hairstyle and decide what we wanted to do. The day of the wedding my hair was perfect and I have been going to her for my cuts and color ever since!

My first time here even if I arrived a little later for my appointment, they were accommodating. The salon uses Aveda products and that’s the reason I came but my friend also referred me to try this place out. It’s located next to Chipotle and Marcs in the Eastgate Shopping Plaza. Inside, it looks inviting. You can help yourself to coffee or tea. I went here for a haircut and Danielle did a good job. She did what I asked and gave some helpful tips on taking care of your hair. A scalp massage was also complimentary for first timers so that felt more relaxing.
Danielle also gave me a tour of the place. They have a spa and you can feel relaxed already when you walk in. It’s in a separate room so not as noisy as outside. In addition, they also do nails. For $ 30, it was worth it for the cut.

I have been getting mani/pedi’s here for a while and I LOVE it. They do a great job and the spa area is really nice. The massage chairs they have for the pedicures are the bomb. Holy crap! That’s the best part.
Forget the asian sweatshops, come to John Roberts for a great (hygienic) experience!

Looking at the reviews makes me wonder if we are talking about the same place… I went here for many years and now that I ask myself where my money has gone, a pretty good share of it has definitely been spent at John Robert’s. My stylish was amazing for cuts, color and highlights. His wife owned the cool boutique at the salon’s entrance always a great stop even though as I student I could not afford much at the time. Great salon, but quite expensive as well from what I can remember. For those of you who might still be wondering, the newly hired personnel has to trained with a senior stylist for at least 6 month before working on their own — just saying!

Asked them to touch up a few blond highlights (natural blond) and ended up with magenta red hair by mistake (my regular colorist was on vacation). I found out the hard way how difficult it is to fix such mistakes. Do not let it happen to you.

I went here to have my color corrected after another salon messed it up. From the time I called to make the appt to the time I paid, the customer service was impeccable. Erica did my color and it was gorgeous. Chelsey cut my hair and did a fantastic job. She made sure I liked what she was doing and went out of her way to ensure I loved my hair. A friend got some waxing done and was very pleased. I am very very particular about my hair (ok, I’m anal about it) and customer service is very important and they could not have made my experience any more pleasurable than it was. I highly recommend this salon.

i had a friend who swore by this place.
so i came, i got a decent haircut. not the best, not the worst, and nothing fancy. they do offer drinks and food, but it always seems somwhat awkward where there is nowhere to really set your drink.
this place does have multiple rooms, and is much larger than it looks from the outside.
