There is cheap, American Chinese food, and then there is China Ruby. I gave this place three tries and was disappointed each and every time. Do not order anything that is either labelled as vegetarian or even confirmed as such by the man and woman who I believe own and run the restaurant. It’s likely that they are not listening to you when you ask«does the sauce for the Egg Foo Young have beef or chicken broth in it?» More likely, they are angry that you are asking questions in the first place, and heaven forbid, trying to order food! On all three occasions I received such terrible service. Certainly don’t order take out. You’ll find out only too late that Rats, the sauce is certainly made of powdered beef, and that the Egg Foo Young has chunks of pink pork in it. And it’s way too late to point it out now that you’ve left. Also, do not order anything if you’d like it to taste freshly cooked or safe for your intestines.

If you’re looking for greasy but cheap Chinese food this is the place for you! The food is almost always better when you eat-in as the take out seems to be reheated too many times. Crab rangoons sometimes taste sour and the fried rice is pretty bland. However, teriyaki chicken and dumplings are great here! Most importantly, the drinks are amazing(strong & delicious) and the staff is friendly.

I was in the neighborhood and the people I was with wanted some«real authentic chinese food.» Sadly, this was the only place that looked appealing on Unilocal in the area so we stopped in. Parking wasn’t bad given since it was on a Saturday. The food is VERY Americanized so we were very disappointed. The waiter had warned us before hand but we stayed anyways to try it. We ordered their Singapore Mai Fun, beef chow fun, salt and pepper shrimp, salt and pepper pork chop, and a house special fired rice. Again, EXTREMELY Americanized. If you like Americanized Chinese then this is your place to be. If not, I’d go to a more asian populated area to eat authentic Chinese food. The only thing that was not TOO Americanized, was the the beef chow fun. On a plus side — seating was readily available, the waiter was friendly and they had a bar area(which had more people) and it’s clean.

We ordered on the phone for a takeout meal. The food was hot but we both questioned the egg roll… was it rotten or was the oil just old? We also got an extra appetizer but it was inedible: chicken fingers were absolutely tasteless, and the chicken wings had that spoiled oil taste. The rice noodles were very under cooked. Honestly, the next time we will make the drive to Redford to dine in at Asiana. Not worth the $ 32.

This place is awesome. Portions are huge and tasty. The drinks are inexpensive and made strong, REALLYSTRONG(Go for the mai tai, delicious). The staff is extremely friendly and the service is great. I have been there twice and got the same good treatment. Good atmosphere in the bar and restaurant. Bring a couple extra bucks and try your luck at KENO…

It’s a little scruffy… but brings back memories of Asian food restaurants from the 70s. Prices are good for lunch.

I have dined here 4 times and gotten an upset stomach 2 out of the 4. I haven’t dined there since the interior renovations but it is hard to justify eating there and risking getting sick again just because the inside looks nicer.

We have only eaten here once, I will change my review if we ever go again. Again, this place is a case of good intentions with one bad detail — the sauce. I ordered a veggie meal and the veggies were all crisp and fresh but the sauce was utterly unappetizing. It was this strange slimy texture — most if it was a texture reaction. It was also pretty bland, but I could not get past the sliminess. My husband got some sort of sweet and sour deal and he said the sauce«tasted like a glazed donut.» The waiter was very nice, professional and courteous. At the end he brought some little roll out calendar thing which we have no need for. This place needs to not spend money on calendars and get some new sauce recipes.

Great staff. Owners know you by name. Very accommodating to make special orders. Recently changed the restaurant section and it looks lovely.

Terrible Hot and Sour soup Broth is gross and ingredients are scarce. Don’t buy this soup from this place. And it cost $ 7 for a large. Comes with no dried noodles on the side. To be honest, it would be much better for the restaurant to remove that soup from the menu.

First of all, adjust your expectations, it’s chinese food, and you’re in the suburbs. Secondly, they serve flaming food and drinks. And most importantly, latest last call. They’re also super fast. They dont deliver but this town is literally like 5 square miles. Parking is plentiful. I’m sensitive to MSG, but like emergency room sensitive. People like me generally know what not to order at any chinese food(or any other) place, regardless of how MSG free any place claims to be. But I have no reaction from this place, and they’re very honest about which items unavoidably have it, and they will reliably omit it upon request. Like the rest of Maynard, there’s a «lounge»(a bar, its a freaking bar encased in plexiglass like a hockey rink, there MUST be a reason for this, if anyone knows the story please dont hold out on me) with Keno, and there’s a cardboard crack vending machine, so if you’re not a keno person you can still get your lotto fix. The dining area is far enough away from the bar, so your kids won’t ruin anyone’s happy hour. Jk. Sort of. It’s actually very family friendly. Just blow out the shot of 151 in your kids scorpion bowl before you try to pour it in a sippy cup. Anyway, it’s the only chinese food I’ll get out here, predictable, pretty good, I’m not a mai-tai person, but the Pineapple Passion is killer.

Chin Rub. Ah I mean China Ruby. It does what it plans to do perfectly. Basic, what we grew up with Chinese food. Good prices, huge portions, good food great service and strong drinks. The Chinese Cheers of Maynard. Everyone knows your name. Give it a try. But stay away from the tiki lounge on Friday. Sorry they’re full.

It is a pleasant surprise to find a decent Chinese restaurant in an New England town like Maynard with some authentic Chinese dishes. The restaurant owners are Cantonese I think. Stuff that my partner and I really like are (1) boneless spare ribs (2) singapore fried rice noodles (3) salt pepper wings /baked pork chops! and those are probably the most authentic Chinese dishes you will get. tastes of those dishes amazed me when I tried them for the first time. the bar session is a cool place to hang out a bit, watch some games and get some cheap drinks too

Wow! Worst Chinese food I had in years, coupled with zero courtesy and horrible atmosphere. I eat regularly in Chinese restaurants(my favorite food), and living years in San Francisco Bay Area had no shortage of excellent Chinese food around. Since our move to Concord, I keep on tying the offer around us. This one is by far the worst food I had in a long time(though certainly cheap). As others had put it, the search goes on. Service was quick but with no human contact — no hello, thanks, good bye — not to mention the slightest smile.

As a new addition to Acton I was hopeful to find a great and close Chinese restaurant, sadly the search will continue. Although it isn’t pricy the food is not good. I ordered chicken wonton soup which was bland bland bland. So sad. My boyfriend ordered the hot and sour soup which he had one sip of and swiftly tossed into the trash. The pupu platter was big in portion, but contained no crab rangoon. The fried shrimp and chicken fingers were extremely greasy. The chicken wings were overcooked and dry. The leftovers turned into cardboard in the fridge the next day. I actually knocked on an eggroll and it sounded like I was knocking on a wooden door. I want to mention that we are not picky eaters and aren’t just looking to bitch and nitpick every little tiny detail. Hope they get better because they are so close and convenient.

This has got to be the best Chinese restaurant in the area, and it is definitely one of the best Chinese restaurants I’ve eaten in. Food: Everything I have ordered here has been delicious! I’ve literally eaten half of the things on the menu, and I think that the food is consistently well prepared, with quality meat and seafood. I hate eating bad meat(poor quality, very fatty), and China Ruby does not use this meat at all, which I really appreciate. All of the appetizers and combo platters provide hefty portions of tasty snacks. The fried rice is phenomenal and can be prepared classic Chinese style with scallions and eggs. Drinks: The bartender here really cares about the people in the restaurant. Not only does he make some of the strongest, tastiest drinks I’ve ever enjoyed, but he is also willing to cut someone off if they are getting too drunk. I really respect this, and it shows that China Ruby is responsible and cares for their customers well being — they’re not just in it for the money. But back to the drinks… the Mai Tais are incredible, Piña Coladas are wonderful, and Scorpion Bowls must have a secret ingredient because they taste better than any others I have tasted. Price: The food here is very reasonably priced and affordable. I’m always amazed when I get the bill how full I am, how much food I still have left over, and how cheap the entire meal costs. Service: As I mentioned the bartender before, I left out that he is always joking with the customers and is a really nice man. The hostess is a lovely lady who seems to know everybody in the restaurant. She is very friendly and also really cares about the customers having a good time! The waiters are all very quick, efficient, and friendly as well. My water glass is always full, and I never have to wait long for food or drinks. The food comes out really fast! Ambience: I really love the feel of this place. It feels like home, and the people are all very nice, caring and fun. They always decorate for the holidays throughout the year, both American and Chinese, and they are always open, whether its a holiday, or its raining or snowing. I strongly recommend this place to anyone! You will not be disappointed.

Our favorites include: Mai tais Crab rangoons General Gau’s Chicken wings(extra crispy) Luncheon specials are an excellent value, and you can’t put a price on atmosphere! We prefer sitting at the bar vs. at a table, but at 5pm on a Friday the bar is usually full. If you don’t mind sitting in the«Keno corner»(also known as the punishment seat) you can often squeeze in at the far end of the bar. Take a chance and leave your judgments at the door.

We’re moving to town, so we’re making our way through the local restaurants when we really don’t have the energy to cook for ourselves. This afternoon saw us at China Ruby. The food was well priced and pretty good for what we paid. We got the orange beef, the lemon chicken, the shrimp in lobster sauce, chicken fried rice, and crab rangoon. The crab rangoon was served obviously fresh from the fryer and was pretty good. The lemon chicken was perhaps the second best I’ve had in my life(which is to say, didn’t make me feel sick to my stomach from all the grease on the chicken with the syrupy sauce half-way through the meal). Everything else was nothing special but decent, quite edible, and well priced for what it was. The reason this gets two stars instead of four is the service. The server was rude and seriously wandered off half-way through taking our order, reappearing two minutes later with no explanation or apology. Everything was served promptly, but her behavior through the meal was nothing I’ve ever experienced before and hope never to again.

Two words: Carpeted. Walls. This place is totally absurd. The food is bordering on mediocre but not inedible. The tea is really gross and oversteeped so it’s like a dark engine oil color. Crab Rangoon is good, portions are large. Wonton soup is mystifyingly filled with pea pods, bamboo shoots, mushrooms, etc(all canned veggies) along with the wontons and broth. Interesting and not wholly unenjoyable. I primarily like to come here out of nostalgia, because in high school in Sudbury my friends and I would always head over super late to Chin Rub’s in large groups. It’s a silly place. And yeah your body will hate you for at least a day afterwards.
