The atmosphere is beautiful. You can sit inside or out on the porch which overlooks the bay. The food was just ok. We ordered the cheese and fruit appetizer and it was so tiny we could not believe it. I had been to this place several times about 15 and 12 years ago. It was much better than. Disappointed with the meal and with the dessert. Beautiful view though and atmosphere.

My husband and went back last night for a second time. The clams casino was outstanding. Our entrees of filet and crab cake and scallops were very good. Service was excellent, prices were fair considering the excellent quality of food. We sat at a table in the bar area overlooking the charming gazebo. Worth going out of our way to visit.

Neat place. Very reliable for big family dinners and group settings. Never stayed at the Inn. But it has a beautiful set up with a lake making up for a scenic backdrop — no matter what the time of the year. The ambiance is perfect for family gatherings; low key, classic furniture and décor, bright lights, and such. I have dined here a couple of times and I liked what I got. Some of my favorites for dinner were the following: Apps /Starters: * lamb lollipops: very well seasoned and grilled * buttercup brie: the basil made all the difference * crab bisque: very smooth and buttery; with good chunks of crab meat Mains: * Coffee crusted sirloin steak was my favorite by far * Crab imperial stuffed baked fluke was a close second * scallops with sun dried tomatoes, chopped basil and spinach was good too All in all, I like this place for a good time with family and friends!

We had a post-funeral luncheon here today. It was the saddest day of my life burying my mom. Larry and his staff were awesome. They had food ready for us after the burial. Everything was delicious, plentiful, and high quality. We had walnut crusted salmon, chicken marsala, Caesar salad with chicken, vodka pasta, meatballs and mini pasties for dessert. Wait staff was attentive and accommodating. Chef graciously accommodated a few people who had dietary restrictions. After, we walked to water and had our cocktails by the lake. Though we far extended our time,(we were there nearly 4 hours with 48 people) no one rushed us out, even as they were setting up for the dinner crowd. Everyone in my picky Italian family complimented me on the selection of venue and food-my husband and I will definitely return with the family for a dinner in a happier time. When I posted this review, I read the negative comments and was stunned that anyone had had a bad experience here. Hats off to Sugar Hill for helping me get through the worst day of my life.

Well the Unilocal app says it’s closed today but they fed me… Beautiful view, friendly staff, outdoor seating… So far so good. Had the small Caesar salad and veggie lasagna, both were fine. It is cozy inside with a large, actually several large dining areas but it was a bit too humid for me to go that route. Just had the ‘do blown out and didn’t want a ‘Fro from the weather. I’d come back.

Sometimes when a restaurant has a few Unilocal reviews and generally low ratings, I will take a gamble and hope I will have that special, fantastic experience that rises above the pack. Unfortunately with the Inn at Sugar Hill, it was a losing wager. This place looked really great on paper. The menu was interesting and the pictures showed the property to have a quaint charm. Most importantly it met most of the criteria for a group that wanted many different things from a Mother’s Day dinner. I was very impressed at first glance. Even before entering the restaurant, part of my group went water side for a few pictures. There is no denying that the setting was picturesque. It went downhill from there. We weren’t greeted properly by the host. She thought we were with the other party of 6 that just arrived. We all kind of stood around confused until she figured out we were part of two different groups. Not to mention that the front hallway was super tiny and cramped. The other party arrived first with an earlier reservation so were obviously seated first. We asked if we could be seated by a water facing window, however larger tables aren’t available with that view. We were politely told we could wait outside and enjoy the water while we waited for our table. What a nice way to shoo us out of the way for a moment. About 15 minutes after our scheduled reservation, we were seated at a nice cozy table in the corner. The décor was horridly charming. It really had that old inn feel. I would never decorate anything to look this way, but it really fit here. It was a little warm around the table, unless you were seated directly next to the vent. At one point my father-in-law noticed a smell that reminded him of «cat piss» but no one else smelled it. Our visit was for Mother’s Day, which I’ve heard is one of the busiest days of the year in the restaurant industry. Keeping that in mind, I still think the service was slow and staggered. She forgot my Caesar salad and my mom’s side dishes. Each course would get dropped off and it took a very long time for her to check on us to make sure everything was okay. With each course there were various items forgotten or problems with the food, so we really did need her to check back sooner. After our main courses were delivered, we had to flag down another server to ask him to get her attention. The food itself was hit or mess depending on what was ordered. The bread was fantastic. It was fresh and hot. The butter was clumpy and hard to spread. My Caesar salad was nice. The lettuce was a good mix of romaine lettuce, fresh parmesan cheese and a tasty dressing. I sampled some of my dad’s crab bisque, which is one of the things they are known for and it was just okay. It had a very smoky taste and wasn’t very rich. My in-laws liked the brie dish, although the crackers served with it seemed to be similar to a Townhouse variety. For my main course, I went with the fluke with lemon butter sauce. It takes a lot for me to send food back to the kitchen, and this may have been the first time I’ve ever asked for a completely different menu item. The fluke was dry and very overcooked. I couldn’t taste the lemon flavor or butter flavor. My father in-law was enjoying his chicken francaise so I went with that instead and agree it was pretty tasty. That’s just something I never would have picked from an American style restaurant near the water. It’s disappointing that the locally caught fish was cooked so poorly. My new dish came out very fast, I guess they either took another person’s order or just had everything sitting there ready to go. The mashed potatoes were good but the green beans were rubbery. No one else had such an extreme experience, but no one thought their food was standout. Dessert time was awkward. All mothers were invited to have a dessert on the house. Our server had to ask me if I was a mom, but then just assumed my mother and mother-in-law were moms. She also disclaimed the promotion by saying«all mothers get a free dessert but everyone else is allowed to have dessert too.» Gee, thanks. I get the gesture, but it was just worded so strangely. My mother went with the bread pudding and my mother-in-law went with the chocolate brownie. The bread pudding was a normal serving of dessert, but the chocolate brownie was tiny, almost like the size of a mini-cupcake. Since none of us were overly hungry at that point, the desserts got passed around the table to share. The brownie was moist and enjoyable. I really liked the bread pudding. I’ve actually never had bread pudding before so I have no basis of comparison, but it had a nice cinnamon/banana flavoring. We will not be returning to the Inn at Sugar Hill. Two stars for a charming inn-ambiance and some of the food being okay.

It hurts me to give this place three stars because it’s one of my favorite restaurants. I love sitting dock side in the summer and indulging in the drinks and spinach and artichoke dip, and in the winter I love to sit inside and get the chicken francaise(which I might add is absolutely amazing, compliments to the chef) but the service needs work, BIGTIME. If you’re in a time crunch, don’t come here. I’ve been there once for lunch and waited almost a half hour before anyone in the lobby was not seated… But even addressed. The servers walked right past us and there was no hostess. In the evening we were seated, but the food took nearly an hour to be delivered when there were very few people in the restaurant. I am a fair person, I’ve worked in many restaurants over the years, but I’ve never seen such slow service. Is it the kitchen? The servers? Who knows.

Dockside is great for casual dining by the water… the view & atmosphere reminds me of dockside cafes in Florida. So when I want to relax this is my first choice. I only gave it 3 stars because the food is just okay & I’m always hopeful that next time will be better & blow me away. Bartender is horribly slow & not very personable… at least during the times I was there. Either she’s always like that or I just happened to be there on days when she was totally disinterested in her job. She was like that with everyone. It’s just a heads up if you encounter the same service.

I was taken here for the first time this week for a celebration dinner. I have to say i was impressed. I have been to very upscale restaurants before, this isn’t as high end as them with the atmosphere but is make up for with the friendly service, as well as, the cozy warm atmosphere and view of the bay. Food selection is amazing, even with the small menu it was hard to make a choice. are ordered were perfect including the rare steak that was ordered. Vegetables were a little under cooked for my liking however very flavorful. My main dish was the Chicken Christina which has been a dish they have made for 20+ years if I remember correctly. It was fantastic. Deserts were light and refreshing. Overall very happy with this place. My ONLY complaint would have to be the loud group patrons that thought this place was a bar to be loud at. Otherwise very pleased. Will be coming back.

A beautiful spot on the water with delicious food. In the warmer months, I suggest sitting out back on their deck and enjoying a soft shell crab sandwich!

So completely unimpressed. My mother & I came here for dinner and I knew it was a mistake when we sat down and the table wabbled uncontrollably. Every time we touched the table, picked a glass up or moved something, the table moved. WTF! Distracting & annoying! I don’t know how often they change up their menu but their one vegetarian option just didn’t do it for me. The view of the water is beautiful, especially at night, but that’s about all of the positive props I can give this place.

Used to be our favorite go to restaurant. Went recently and was disappointed. Food came out cold silverware was dirty and too pricey. I do have to say the atmosphere is still great! Sorry to say we will have to find a New favorite.

Dockside Grill: Meh. First this boy was sitting in a chair at the entrance to the parking lot and stared us down as we drive in. Not sure why he was there. Then the service was average, and the young crew was playing around most of the time(resulting in a long time to wait for our food). The Inn is great but as for Dockside, we will not be back.

The food was over loaded with butter and oil. Crab, shrimp, scallops in a pesto sauce over Linguini was more like a soup bowl. Service wasn’t that great either. They didn’t offer us any specials but the people that came after us were offered specials. The building was very dated but it did offer great views

Should have checked the Unilocal reviews before booking out of town guests into the«B&B» at Sugar Hill Inn — I might have noticed that there were no reviews by overnight guests for the B&B aspect of the Inn. Which would have been a strong heads up. The room was dirty and not prepared for guests, including half empty ice tea and water bottles scattered throughout the room. Which is rather inexcusable as the place seemed to be as deserted as a ghost town. Good luck if something happens in the night and you need a manager or some sort of hotel staff. Also worth noting that if you or your out of town guests are handicapped, injured or elderly, you’re out of luck; there’s no elevator or lift, only stairs. Our guests so enjoyed their experience that they checked out and left town early. This place has been there forever. How?

Review is for Dockside bar and restaurant. Went there the other night on my wife’s suggestion. Great place to sit by the water since there really is no other place nearby that you can do so. Sadly that’s kind of the best part. Drinks are pricey like everywhere else, the band was ok and a little too loud but the food… the food was terrible at best. Lets see nachos grande for 8 bucks. I think there was supposed to be some kind of meat but that didn’t happen. They used the same melted white cheddar tasteless cheese that they put on the cheese fries we ordered. Those were under cooked and had the cheese and bacon in one clump in the middle of the pile. Finally the Margarita pizza(supposedly good) was not cooked enough, limp and all the cheese just fell off when you picked it up. This place is best for going for a drink by the water. Wouldn’t recommend sitting down and eating with your hard earned dollars.

The scenery is great, the beers is cold but that’s as good as it gets. Cocktails are weak. The service for food is a joke. Our waitress couldn’t get our order right and it was as easy as it gets. 5 cheeseburgers and three fries, how can you mess that up. The manager is clueless. She should spend less time on her phone and more time doing her job. If you want to stop on your way home for a beer and some apps fine, but find some where else to go for dinner.

This review is not for the inside dining but for the Dockside Grill that is part of the Inn at Sugar Hill. You’re almost to the shore, the traffic is getting worse, stop by the Dockside Grill for drinks, dinner and live entertainment. Small selection of beers on tap, a pretty complete bar, and good pub food make the Dockside Grill a great summertime destination. Boats pull up to the dock on the Great Egg Harbor River, you can watch the skidoos make 360s and most importantly, wave to everyone stuck at the intersection going down the shore(cars hot, kids screaming, beach balls and chairs piled high in the back of the van). There is always live music on Friday and Saturday and you can just kick back and watch the sun set. The best item on the menu is the pizza, there is a wood-burning oven right on the dock and there is always a chef’s special.
