DON’T ORDERDELIVERY(GrubHub) FROMHEREIFYOUACTUALLYWANTFOOD. On 3 separate occasions I tried to order from them. In all 3 cases they took the order, sent me a confirmation notice, sent me a notice saying my order was being prepared and then ultimately got a call saying they couldn’t deliver. The shortest amount of time they made me wait before bothering to tell me they weren’t delivering was 45 minutes. 1 time took over an hour.

My 1st visit was a solid 5!!!(This was a yr or more ago) 3rd or 4th visit fried shrimp was unavailable. BOOOOOOOO Today I ordered 2lbs of fried shrimp, ¼ grilled shrimp, fried tomatoes, &4 wings. $ 62.00.(I guess that’s ok, IDK) Signs posted say 20mins, ik we waited 45mins. NOTCOOL. They had no other patrons. My food wasn’t piping hot either! My chicken was hot, but shrimp was warm from Maywood to Bellwood. *SIDEEYE* The seating island near the front window was sticky which meant it was dirty! THEYNEEDTOCLEANUPTHEIRACT!!!

I must say this after reading the reviews this place was sounding great and that all c crashing down when I stepped inside. Let’s start with the ambiance. It was ridiculous. Music so loud my fillings hurt. Workers cursing at each other and not worrying who hears what they say. The food was cooked in old oil as the container had this pooled sludge on the bottom. My cars oil change looked cleaner then that. And it was over cooked. I asked what type of lobster they used. One employee told me Maine lobster tails and another told me slipper lobster tails. After doing some research I am guessing it was the slipper lobster. As the price difference is night and day. And so is the taste. Slipper lobster tastes just like its name like a slipper. I will never step foot in this place because just like the others here I had a groupon and they refused it. These folks better get their act together because I don’t care how many location you have you will collapse very hard. I give the food and the entire place 4 thumbs down.

I had a paper Groupon I was told they no longer accept the paper but will accept the digital one via smartphone. Whipped phone out, problem solved. The lobster and shrimp combo with a side of fried green tomatoes absolutely delicious. And even though im your typical pumpkin spice swilling white girl, they were super nice. I don’t know what the bad reviews were for but i will be returning for more.

I went to the Maywood location, finally. And was very disappointed. I’ve been singing this restaurants praises for years. And couldn’t believe how the manager/owner showered one female Customer and her friend with Lobster samples, fried green tomatoes, dirty rice and a bottle of water all for free. He kept running back and forth offering her things. Meanwhile, I’m sitting there in the same restaurant and wasn’t offered A THING. It was her and her friend and my friend and I, so it wasn’t a restaurant full of people to please. To add injury to insult I waited 35 mins for 2 fish and chicken combos and an order of shrimp because the cooks were back there frying lobster for a customer who came in after me, ate all this food, got her food and left before me. It was so blatantly bad customer service that her friend asked us… Have you been here before? Looking bewildered thinking we’d received this treatment before why else were we being ignored. I replied no. She was in shock and said WOW! She asked what is he up to? I don’t know what he was on but I have a very good idea… Nice looking woman, long hair don’t care, nice figure. The thirst was real. I won’t be back to the Maywood location. My boys at the southside location know how to treat a lady. Btw, the chicken was salty and the dressing was dry and bland. Skip their soul food and head up the street to Priscilla’s.

Apparently they don’t even accept their own groupon and are extremely rude. Yes it’s my fault that you don’t accept a deal that you offer! They won’t be in business long with this type of attitude.

The food is good. BUT, the prices are too high for the portion sizes especially when the competitors are(literally) blocks away. Please reevaluate your price point and your business will sky-rocket!

I would like to offer a review on the food but I didn’t get the chance. After seeing ads on both and Groupon I wanted to try this local cajun place. But before I could order he saw my coupon and said«we stopped taking those». Clearly, they were active on both sites and getting the promotion. Groupon was even featuring them that day. If you want to stop the program, pull your ad and honor what has already sold. That crap annoys me and speaks to the owners ethical standards. I left and decided to go to Don Alfredo up the road in Melrose without a coupon as they previously honored certificates they offered happily. Too bad. I love Cajun food and can’t always go to Loop for Heaven On Seven. Remember, what goes around, comes around. That’s karma baby!

Chicken tastes like I fried it myself. So it was very tasty! The only thing that got me was when I saw some feathers. I hate seeing feathers on my chicken. Praying that this was just an oversight. We’ll see next time.

My friend and I ordered from Surfs Up in Maywood and we were so disappointed. We waited over an hour for the delivery only to find that the driver went to the wrong address. The food was overpriced, the shrimp were fried too hard and barely warm. The greens were good but the thin slice of cornbread fell apart when I took it out of the bag. Don’t even get me started on the pathetic onion rings!!! I won’t call the restaurant to complain bcuz they might offer me more of their garbage for free or at a reduced price which I would absolutely refuse. I could’ve gotten a better meal on the dollar menu at Mc Donald’s.

I first tried Surf’s up when they were located on Austin in Chicago. The portions were generous and the food was cooked fresh to order. I have since ordered from Surf’s up in Maywood twice and I was not a huge fan of the portions and the food wasn’t made fresh to order. Our shrimp were cold and the portions for the price left me unsatisfied. I did not like the hot wings at all, they were extremely salty and cut in a weird way(I am not sure what that was about). The staff is very friendly and the restaurant is clean and they offer free coffee and tea. I will continue to order the grilled shrimp on occasion, but will make sure to ask for fresh and hot shrimp.

Food is excellent. Cooked to order so be prepared to wait. It is worth the wait. I’ve had the chicken, catfish(fried and grilled), lobster bites, and shrimp which were all seasoned, hot, and yummy. They also have turkey greens that are cooked like you grandmother made them, not from the can like other soul good restaurants!

I came here to try the fried lobster, I’d heard from a few people and read reviews that it was a dish to try. I decided to come to the newer location in Maywood. I ordered two fried lobster dinners, a half pound of shrimp, and a side of fried green tomatoes. My total was around $ 46. The fried lobster dinners were 13.99 each, the shrimp 9.9 and the fried green tomatoes were 4.99 all taxes were additional. First, I do like that the food is made to order and the staff works together efficiently. The wait wasn’t very long either. Now I knew with ordering lobster that it’s a speciality item, but when I got my meal home I did not expect such a small portion. The meal looked more like a snack and not worth $ 13.99 in my opinion. The side of dirty rice was ¾ cup full and I got a roll along with the 3 nugget-like pieces of lobster. I know we’re not in Cali where you can get huge portions of seafood but I still expected more. The rice was on the dry side, so I didn’t eat it. The lobster was good but I just wish there was more. I really liked the shrimp, they are huge and you get a good amount of them. The fried green tomatoes were also good. I could’ve bought 2 pounds of shrimp and would’ve gotten a better value. I think I’ll stay away from the lobster next time and try other menu items.

Oh lucky day! I just happened to pass this location on my way to take my mother to physical therapy. When I first saw the sign I thought I had to be dreaming but when I turned around and went back past it, I realized it wasn’t a mirage. And I must admit I got very happy. Having heard about this place and their wonderful food, I said I had to try them. Unfortunately I hadn’t gotten the time to go to their other location in the Austin neighborhood, even though its not that far from me. When I saw this location I said I had to try it, but it was not open yet. So I ended up going someplace else to grab something to eat, I was too famished to wait. I did return though and tried the fried green tomatoes, and they were delicious. I am looking forward to my mothers next appointment with the physical therapist so that I can try some more of their delicious food. I will definitely do an update when I get to try more from their menu. They have gotten off to a great start with me, because I absolutely love fried green tomatoes, and even more when its done right.
