Good selection of items but very poor customer service. Not a single friendly face. We were looking for a gas grill and the help was very forced. I’ll give them credit for having multiple lanes open however I don’t agree with a No ID upon credit purchase. Fraud welcome I guess. I asked a different associate if they had a policy of checking ID and she responded with«it just depends I guess«. On what? Obviously not on purchase amount. We paid over 300. I’m guessing she meant whether or not you look shady.ok. I also wish a store chain as large as Academy sports adopted a military discount. If you’re planning for a quick in and out go for it, don’t expect friendly service… don’t expect service at all.

I bought a Char-Broil Gas grill from Academy a few months ago. I selected the one I wanted and then went through the red-tape of buying it and getting it out to my friend’s truck. Some parts were not assembled, and I was told that everything would be inside the grill, which was taped down. Once I got it home, I took all the wrapping off and opened the grill. There was no instruction manual anywhere, and I had nothing to go by for assembling. Also, the Also missing was the metal wood chip holder. The next day I went back to the store where I had purchased the grill. I took my receipt and told the person at customer service what had happened. They said I would have to speak to the manager. After 20 minutes, the manager came around and I told him what had happened. He began to argue and deny that the manual was missing. Then he said I must be lying and he started yelling at me! I told him why on earth would I lie about a missing manual and wood chip holder. I asked to speak to his manager, but he said he was in charge. I showed him the receipt and told him that it had been wrapped up with tape, but the cashier had assured me that all items would be inside. He was so rude and condescending to me, that I began to shout«Listen shoppers, this place is scamming you. They won’t give you what you paid for!» The man pushed me hard outside the store and told me never to come back. I called the police but was told it was a civil matter and I could pursue it with a lawyer. I did not feel like paying extravagant fees just so some lawyer could go to Hawaii at my expense, so I declined. I decided to call Char-Broil, the manufacturer of the grill. I found their web site and called customer service. After explaining my story, the representative was most sympathetic and put me on hold for a little bit. They came back and said that they were very sorry that I had encountered such trouble, and they were going to send me the manual and wood chip holder free of charge. I was so grateful and thanked them profusely. It was not really their fault because Academy was the one who packaged the grills and partially assembled them. Needless to say, I no longer shop at Academy. Trust me, there are much better places to shop!

Same as any other Academy. I usually roll up to stroll around, and see if I can get some nice gear on Clearance.
