I live out of town and I’ve seen their instagram so I was really excited to try. I ordered their cheese pie which they charged me almost $ 5 for and it was tinny. I mentioned how tiny it was and was told by the employee that he was sorry, he gave us a pre-cut slice they had in the back. He ended up cutting us a new slice which was a little bigger. I am extremely disappointed that a place with so much potential would be weird and stingy about cutting a Regular size slice. I will not be going back or recommending. :(

It’s a good place, but not fantastic. If you know anything about the RGV, then you know that we have restaurants galore. The thing is that they’re all the same. Tacos. Burger Kings. Sonics. McDonalds. PJ Pies really tries to deviate from the standard culture– and with moderate success too! I mean pies? cool! The atmosphere is something that you could probably see in big cities, but is unique to the valley. We’re talking hipster types with awesome beards and tattoos. Teens who love to hang out. People who love sticking to organic ingredients. All these qualities are great. But this store still has a lot to work on. The atmosphere has only attracted a very small group of people, so it is yet not very diverse. I personally feel that the remnants of the old MoonBeans crowd(another coffee shop in the RGV) has migrated to PJ Pies in large quantities. So yes, in a sense it is the new«hip» place to go to. While there is nothing wrong with this, don’t expect to immediately fit in and feel welcome if you don’t share the beliefs of this community. Though the patrons are kind, and it may help to ease some of the other families who attend. The food is OK. the quality is good, but there’s a certain factor X missing to make it that 5 star amazing. In summary PJ Pies is good if you’re looking for a place to try out. I didn’t have an amazing experience there, but you should go and form your own opinions about the atmosphere and food.

Such friendly staff and I love the new fresh made menu they are working right now. They have the best pie I have ever had called blueberry goat, they just started making their own homemade chai, and this vinegar veggie garnish, way better than a pickle from a bucket!!! Can’t wait to try the sirracha chicken and those new side dishes I heard about!

Finally, when we had company over the holidays, I got to go to PJ’s, a place which I’d heard so much about since before it had even opened.(We’d enjoyed getting the individual-serving sized pies at local farmers markets before the business opened). Cute place. Nice atmosphere. Friendly staff. I had one of the chicken basil pot pies. Delish. Another in our party had a pie shake and really enjoyed it. Everyone liked what they got. Glad I finally got to come and enjoy the food and place. Nice atmosphere, too — pleasant décor, friendly staff. They have free music some weekends, too. PJ’s does a very good job! Look forward to returning. This is another local owned and operated place — support local, folks!

Ok so my expectations were very high for this place since I read all the reviews. Let me just start off by saying the only reason they have a star is because of the shake we got. It was super good and sure the rest of the pies and shakes were too. The reason for the low rating is because of our food. I ordered a pj’s fave sandwich with no veggies. Also ordered the another pj’s fave with no mustard. We get home to find both sandwiches were made wrong! No biggie for mine since I can just take off the veggies but had to give one half to my fiancée since hers had mustard and just messed up the whole sandwich. And the also gave us a side salad when we asked for a Cesar salad. Complete mess!!! Kinda pricey so I wasn’t to happy to just throw away a whole sandwich. I understand this might not always be the case so therefor I will give it another try. Also, there is plenty of seating but the parking might be a bit tight. There is a plaza right across the street that you might be able to park at if there’s none.

So tasty! Frozen Mexican hot chocolate is yum! Loaded baked potato soup is awesome. Customer service was excellent. Definitely a better value than subway or quiznos.

I went with my grandma, mom, and great aunt for an afternoon pick-me-up one weekend. I follow several Valley magazines that showcase up and coming restaurants and stores; PJs Pies was showcased on the Valleyite Instagram account. So, my grandma scoped it out and she loved it– rave reviews, the pie was other worldly. We all went expecting to be blown away. Sadly, we were disappointed. The PJs’ store used to be the old Sweet Temptations before it moved to their new location on 10th. It’s nice, a little older from the exterior, but they’ve updated it with a pretty patio area. It was a little too warm for us to sit outside, so we sat inside and ordered at the counter. The girl helping us was seemed a little lost/tired, but she was nice. I ordered the chicken pot pie which was warm and flaky; a perfect pot pie. I shared the chocolate espresso pie with my aunt and we were both a little disappointed. It started MELTING within five minutes of its arrival! A bit icky for our taste. My grandma didn’t really enjoy her sandwich and my mother wasn’t thrilled about her food either. Their pies were okay but we’ve had better; I feel Luby’s has better quality chocolate pies than PJs. I digress, their sweet pies were not something to rave about. However, I would go back for their chicken pot pies. Perfect place for just hanging, or grabbing a quick lunch. Try it for yourself and see if you get better results.

I don’t like pies. Never been a pie guy. Only ever like chocolate and buttermilk. But PJ Pies has converted me. The blueberry basil and goat cheese will make you want to slap yo mama and the espresso silk will put you into a pie coma. For lunch I love the fresh and delicious Lex-Mex Sandwich. My wife loves the pesto chicken pot pie and chocolate bourbon pecan pie. I highly recommend this place. Also best coffee north of Mission in the Valley.

I was really excited to try Pj pies because from the outside its everything you want it to be right until they bring you the food. I ordered a coffee, slice of pie, and the gobbler. Friend of mine ordered one of their sandwiches. The coffee was not great but I didn’t go for that so no big deal there. The gobbler looks and sounds great but was really disappointed that they used a instant mix for the mash potatoes. Made the pot pie bland and mushy. Pie wasn’t too bad but wish they had some classic selections such as pecan & apple. Overall enjoyed the atmosphere and their sandwiches. Disappointed with their«famous» pies.

They are the perfect example of turning your passion into a business. What started as a small, home operation has quickly become one of the top-spots for locals. They have sweet pies, savory pies and even pie shakes!

PJ Pies is a refreshing café in my hometown. I’m so proud to be living in a city that is so open to diversity. Back to PJ Pies: the most delicious pot pies I have ever had! The crusts are perfection and the fillings are divine! I’ve taken family members to dine there from the ages of 12 – 91, they all approve. I’ve also held meetings with clients and fellow vendors in the same industry I am in; wifi access is great for that. I’m happy to be able to introduce new people to this amazing hole in the wall café. Staff is kind and courteous. Remember, eat local and shop local!

My family and i went for lunch expecting great food and it was a HUGEDISAPPOINTMENT. For starters their variety of pies is a joke! They only carried 2 choices of pies, anything else you have to special order it including the traditional pecan pie. Their Instagram page portrayed to carry a huge variety of delicious pies so it was huge let down to see mostly only s’more pie. Don’t order the cob salad unless all you want to eat is lettuce and ranch, they forgot to put tomato, bacon was a bit burned, hardly had chicken and avocado was only 3 pieces.(thanks a lot for your recommendation, «its delicious».not!) The kids menu needs drastic improvement, the only choice is an overpriced DRY cheese and ham sandwich with NOMAYO(seriously y’all can at least grill it). oh and a peanut butter jelly sandwich. The cheeseburger pot pie was pretty good but unfortunately it had more pie crust than meat. The bacon caramel apple pie was not the best, it was cold and reheated. The staff was friendly but not professional, they were sitting down with their friends and being a bit loud which I didn’t mind, but was bit award going up to them because they got our order wrong.

I am giving this place 2 stars instead of 1 simply because their cheeseburger pot pie was not bad. Other than that I don’t know how they can take pride in being a «pie specialist» and not actually have a variety of pies to choose from. I went in excited because in their instagram page they make it seem like it’s pie heaven when in reality they only carry like 3 choices not a wide variety like they portray on instagram. I really wanted try their pecan pie they have several pictures of on instagram but when I asked for it they told me they don’t even carry pecan pie, they only have it available if you special order. On top of that their kid’s menu is a joke, their kids cheese sandwich is basic and dry but they charge about $ 5 for a sandwich that should be free because of the low quality taste it has. I can sincerely say I did not try their coffee and not sure if it’s any good but they are definitely not as good as they claim to be when it comes to PIES. This place is OVERRATED.

Definitely a great place to go if you want a slice of something sweet and the fact that you can get Jitterz coffee in McAllen is a huge plus! Went in on a rainy evening bought several slices of pie and not one disappointed. Families were playing game boards with kids and other patrons were just hanging out. So the overall ambiance is great for any age group, you can sit indoors or enjoy an outdoor patio. Owner was very nice and came by to introduce himself and check on how we liked the pies. My fav was the Blueberry, Basil & Goat Cheese followed by the Key Lime! I will definitely be back to try some of the lunch items soon!

Just got a slice of blueberry pie with a scoop of ice cream with the hubby and it was a pleasant little surprise! Pie was not overwhelmingly sweet or artificial tasting! Also, it had amazing texture bc it had some kind of oat crumbly stuff which added a nice crunch. I will definitely be returning to fulfill future sweet tooth cravings!

I just got a hand pie this morning with bacon and egg. Not bad. Hot and fresh. Pie crust was flaky and delicious. Overall great job. I also picked up a slice of their bacon caramel apple. Yes, bacon! I haven’t had it yet(saving it for dinner), but as a frugal buyer, I felt I got a very small piece for $ 5.00. While I know the pies are fresh and homemade in store with premium products, it still seems a bit high for a small piece. I’m sure it will be delicious but I wouldn’t get too many of them unless I was really craving it. I can’t wait to try a pie shake with the Key Lime though. That just sounds amazing. Even the blueberry goat cheese. Oh I will be back!

Saw my friend post about this new café seem interesting, my hubby and I just drop by for a quick tea break. It was 2:30pm Friday noon and they run out of most fav fruit pie. We end up try what is left which is s’more pie, is like chocolate and caramel pie. It’s nice first few bite but I think is too thick and sweet. Think they just open not long, so they still can’t really estimate the quantity of supply need to prepare daily. Coffee is ok, I think there is room for improvement. Environment is rustic and simple clean. The staff are friendly and helpful. Will try their savory pie next time.

My staff and I were in the mood for sandwiches yesterday and we figured we’d try out the new place a couple of doors down the road on McColl. I have to say we enjoyed our food. I had a BLT which was delicious, my only complaint, was they forgot the tomato. But then they just opened and that slight fault can be forgiven. My fellow barrister had«The Bear»(roast beef) and he said it was delicious. My staff was craving chicken pot pie but they only had pulled pork pot pie, again they are only a couple days old and I’m sure they’ll get the kinks ironed out. But they enjoyed it and are looking forward to having the chicken. I went back this morning for a spinach quiche and a latte, and was very pleased with my order. A thumbs up! I’m looking forward to tasting their pies, which look oh so appetizing. Check out their website and check out their menu.
