Decided to try this place while cruising by. We ordered the Vietnamese vermicelli plate. It was a good portion and tasted good but not memorable. I would still come back and eat there to try other things on the menu

Got here at 1:45 for a quick bite before running errands. Atmosphere was pretty dead but service was speedy and polite. Had the beef & broccoli lunch special(7.95, comes with your choice of corn soup or sweet/sour soup). The rest of the menu was a bit more pricey but good quality itself was not bad. A slightly more watery consistency than I’m used to, but the rice was steamed to perfection. The whole plate was very filling. Very good portions. Will probably come back if I’m ever on this side of town again.

Never come back to this place. The phở sate and pad Thai were a joke. Be aware before you order because we ended up paying 20 bucks for a plate of seafood pad Thai that’s taste not thing like pad Thai at all(the same plate and amount of food like that cost only $ 12 at Tony Thai in Houston, and of course it’s way better). Phở sate was tasteless and full of stuff like cucumber, tomatoes since on the menu they just described it as a spicy beef noodles soup. You should ask the server very CLEAR before you order, otherwise it would be a HUGE disappointed.

I’ve been to a couple of Vietnamese places and I always order egg cake and pork dish. But they gave me a poached egg instead of egg cake they gave me with what looked like a poached egg. When I told the waiter he scuffed and said«no that’s how they’re made I’m sorry it’s not a real cake and walked away.» He was rude for the rest of the night. He placed my fathers food on the other side of the table away from him. Besides that the food was dry, the pork was over seasoned which I think isn’t common in Vietnamese dishes. I will not be going back.

What took me so long to finally check out this place!!! Maybe it’s the colorful sign and decorations outside that reminds me of the Americanized Asian restaurants I have been to and gotten disappointed with. It’s a small restaurant that looks a little cluster when you first walk in. Just kinda pick the table you want, don’t wait by the counter unless you order take out. I counted 3 servers plus the cashier. They were all very friendly. The waiter came over and asked me how I heard about the restaurant. He got very amused after I told him from Unilocal. He was gonna tell me more about his work history with the restaurant, but my food came out, so he politely excused himself. Before I came to the restaurant, I already had a good idea what I wanted, based on the pictures and menu I saw on Unilocal.I ordered the Hu Tieu Nam Vang/clear noodle soup with pork and seafood. On the menu, this item states to have pork liver, but I’m pretty sure since most people don’t like liver(I’m one of those people), they have changed it to regular sliced pork and minced pork. The flavor is pretty close to the actual Hu Tieu Nam Vang that my mom makes. Not as good of course, but good enough for the valley and the price was reasonable at $ 7.95. Since it was my first time there, and my eyes are always bigger than my stomach, I also ordered the Xin Xin tofu. It’s deep fried tofu top with minced pork and shrimp. The flavor was on point. I just wish it was less liquidy. They have a very extensive menu compares to all other Asian restaurants in the area, except for Hop Tung I believe(but Hop Tung is crap). I will definitely come back here more often to try out other items, especially when they are right next to my favorite boba place, 2 birds 1 stone! :)

I tried the vegetable and tofu soup I believe it’s called a phở something. It was good. Really hot and exactly what I needed to help kick this cold and cough in the middle of summer. They have a nice little drive thru window. It was nice.

great vegetable and tofu soup! they will take your special orders. but they didnt understand what i meant by salt and pepper tofu. i wish they had green onion pancakes. while we ate an older gentleman came out from the back and handed out lucky candy to everyone it was a really pleasant experience and i will be going back for their soup and ambiance!

People have told me how wonderful this place is, so maybe I expected too much. Generally it was ok. It is certainly better than Panda Express, but not by much. Not bad for a lunch special. I wasn’t particularly blown away. I would go back, but not as a first choice.

One of the best Chinese restaurants so far, the food is amazing, the staff really friendly, is a big difference between the chain restaurants and this family operated place. Definitely a keeper!

It’s more of a Chinese food restaurant. The food was a lot better than other restaurants in the mcallen area. The service was not too bad. The restaurant was practically empty and we waited about 3 – 4 minutes for someone to greet us. They should have a better host the customer would feel more welcomed. The server was polite. I told whT it was our first time there hoping she would help us out with the menu. Like what are the most popular dishes etc. overall we had a great dinner. Not the best Chinese food I’ve had but food enough for this area.

omg, loved this place! my twin, janet & i went at around noon for lunch(5÷12÷14) and we truly enjoyed their deeeelicious food & service!!. janet had the stir fried egg/rice noodles with seafood & veggies, while i had the roasted duck! the negative thing about it, is that they offer canned drinks(with a glass of ice), but i have to say that the great tasting food certainly makes up for it… besides we/you/me are going for the food; not the sodas! definitely going back and try a different dish, just not sure what, ugh… so that is going to be my dilemma!

Came here hoping for Vietnamese food, found ok Chinese food. I frequent Vietnamese food around the state, and this in no way resembled anything I’ve had before. When I think Vietnamese, I think fresh and light what I got was fried food and beef and mushrooms drowning in a sea of sauce. I wanted soft spring rolls, opted for fried calamari. I wanted a banh mi, opted for beef and mushrooms swimming in a brown sauce. The food wasn’t terrible, but not what I wanted from something Unilocal led me to believe was«Vietnamese».

I was hoping for something better based on the reviews, but this was really nothing special(although I did find the food to be quite EDIBLE unlike some other Asian restaurants in the area). The restaurant is located in a new strip mall next to an Asian market and a tea house(I can’t wait to check those out as well). The décor is modern, the ambiance pleasant and the service was okay, but the food was disappointing. Maybe it was what I ordered? The hot and sour soup was bland; too many of the snow peas in my «shrimp with snow peas» were marred with brown spots; I found a lovely, long, black hair in my food and my request for eggroll dipping sauce was met with hoisin sauce(Really? With an Asian market next door that’s the best you can come up with? I didn’t think it was that unusual of a request). On a positive note, the vegetables and the medium shrimp were cooked to perfection. The highlight was the triangular-shaped eggroll thing. Yummy. My favorite Asian restaurant back in Kansas called these«mandu» but I’m not sure what they call them here. Regardless, it was a welcome sight and a reason for me to return! I look forward to giving this place another shot and trying some other menu items. Hopefully my next visit will be more impressive.

My wife and I have been to Xin Xin on a number of occasions and just recently went with my daughter. I’ve had their Phở and recently had another noodle dish with dumplings. My wife tends to try their specials and stir frys and we both agree that this is one of the best Asian restaurants we’ve visited and we both give it two thumbs up!

I love this place. Its nothing like the other Asian restaurants I’ve been too in the valley. They have a lot more variety and flavor to their menu. Not like other restaurants that smother theirs with black bean sauce and pass it off as authentic. Try the brisket stew or the salt and pepper ribs cuz they’re pretty good. Actually, keep an eye out for their board with the house specials, try at least one or ask them what’s a good choice and you won’t be disappointed. The owner’s are pretty funny and friendly. Highly recommend this place.

To preface something another reviewer already mentioned, this is not really fusion food. It’s vietnamese and chinese food and a few other asian dishes sprinkled into the menu. Portions are large, the pricing isn’t too bad, and the food is good. Another great place for the valley. The real kicker though and why I give this place 5 freaking stars is if you are vietnamese or chinese you can actually call the restaurant ahead of time and ask the owner to make you some of the more traditional dishes that ARENOTONTHEMENU. So far I’ve gotten them to make ca kho and canh ca chua, some of my favorite stuff. You can find a larger menu at hop tung but their food isn’t as good and honestly, the owner/workers there are sort of b*tches there. The ones who work here some like honest mom and pops and super nice. Normally I reserve 5 stars for the best of the best but in this case a little love goes a long way so they deserve it.
