First off the hostess and waitress we’re both very friendly. Good start. We were served right away. We started with an order of fried green tomatoes. Very tasty and a big order for only 7 bucks. A bit too much salt for my taste but overall yummy. I ordered the ribeye steak with potato salad and fried okra. The steak was overcooked a bit. The potato salad was bland and the okra would have been perfect except they sprinkled a ton of sea salt on top of it. Making it way too salty for no reason because the batter was already seasoned. 18 dollars wasted in my opinion. My son had the pulled pork sandwich with fries. He said he liked it well enough. I did not try it so I cannot comment directly on it to be honest. Overall I might give it another chance but maybe stick with a burger, since the prices were reasonable. I will update when and if I go back.

BEWARE! I have posted positive feedback before for Southside Diner. This place is NOLONGERSOUTHSIDEDINER!!! It’s nasty OB’s Barbeque leaving the SSD sign up to trick people to come in. Our party of 12 walked out after 2 hours and we were served cold nasty food. Typical OB’s BBQ! Plain and simple, it’s horrible!

Some friends and I decided to go here on Saturday after our workout. The set up was comfy but it’s was way too cold in there, We almost left. The waitress was friendly but she did mess up my friends order. The servings are large BUT I did not like the taste of the smoked chicken, it tasted artificial. I do not think we will return to this spot.

Outstanding. Nothing here disappoints. What a gem. I’m so glad that i didn’t go to cracker barrel across the street. If you want top notch quality food made from scratch. This is your place. I had greens and Lima beans with turkey dressing. It was like eating at home. Service was so good. I saw other meals and they all looked so very good. The owner made the rounds and that was a welcome change. Advice. Get the side salad, it is outstanding and absolutely gorgeous.

The fried green tomatoes are the best! I love the BBQ as well from OB’s. Great customer service!

My first choice was Cracker Barrel but their parking lot was full so I stopped here. Wish I would have stuck with the first place. I waited quiet a while for a hostess to seat me, when she finally did she didn’t give me utensils nor tell the waitress she seated me. When I finally got a waitress she was a little over the top calling me sweetheart… I’m probably 15 years older than her so stop calling me that! I ordered ¼ chicken which took a while to get and was very chewy. For my side I had coleslaw and potato salad, both were yummy. The inside is cute but cold. I saw a lady with a blanket. you’d think management would recognize that as a sign to the temperature inside. I wouldn’t go back as I was just passing through the area and there see other places in vicinity where I know I’d have better luck with service and food.

We really enjoyed this place as a stop on our trip down I-75. Southern classics well done. Pim burger was a particular hit. Just what we needed to power up for the next leg of our trip. We will make it a point to include this on our itinerary for future road trips through Atlanta!

Oh my GOD. This food. Holy smokes. Easily some of the best BBQ I’ve ever had. I had the BBQ burger and it rocked my world. The homemade mac n cheese? DIVINE. The staff was friendly, didn’t have to wait too long. Probably a little more expensive than I’m used to spending for BBQ around here but totally worth it. I can’t wait to eat here again. And again, and again, and again. I kept mixing this place up with the diner on the square but I assure you, this is the place to go for a non-chain option in McDonough.

I rarely order appetizers but I decided to try the spinach dip. Im glad I did because it was amazing! I also ordered Ribs, mac & cheese and a loaded potato. The ribs were seasoned to perfection and the mac & cheese was made from scratch(a plus in my book). They messed up on part of my order but the chef came out and explained what happened and offered something else. Although my whole order wasn’t fulfilled, the customer service and food still deserved 5 stars. I love the merger with QB bbq! Planning to visit again soon.

The food was great, but the service was a little off. It didn’t seem like the staff were all on the same page. I don’t like that the manager/owner came to our table to ask us to write a review, but failed to notice that my glass was completely empty even though we still had full plates. My burger was wonderful and the country fried steak my husband had looked great as well. Maybe focus more on how you service your customers rather than getting reviews?

Not sure what all the hype is about this place, not very good in my opinion. The well known chain restaurant across the street has better food than this place…

I ordered the Country Fried Steak, Fried Okra, and Green Beans. I will probably not order this again, but I enjoyed it. Great food, but it is a tad bit greasy and the steak had too much breading. The rest of my party had grilled entrees, and they were equally as good but not as greasy. I would recommend this above a chain restaurants. It is much more affordable, and the food is simply better.

Slow service. Slow kitchen. I got the fried chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy and macaroni. The chicken had good flavor but the breading made the roof of my mouth raw. Too much garlic in the mashed potatoes, definitely not what I was expecting for mashed potatoes with gravy. Macaroni was the only thing I really can’t say anything negative about. Server was sweet but seemed overwhelmed. Table beside us walked out due to lack of service. Manager that was walking around asking about dining experiences made a confused face at me when I was honest with her about how slow service and kitchen was. Left a bad impression for a first visit and im not sure that I’ll be back.

Barely edible. Brie with crackers? Crackers were old bread slices drenched in oil and the Brie was a melted mess. Never saw our side of sweet potato fries. Won’t be back. :p

A very pleasant surprise– easily one of the Top Ten restaurants in this area. Pristine clean, attentive staff, and an excellent New South menu. I will definitely be back soon.

If you’re staying in the McDonough area, skip the Three Dollar Café and the other local chain diners and definitely stop here. SSD has a well thought out Southern based menu with a decent selection. I had the fish tacos and was glad to see mahi-mahi, blackened, instead of tilapia and a side of lima beans. My bride had the cheddar shrimp and grits. We started the meal off with the fried pickles which were very well seasoned and batter. The crunch with the briny finish is pure deep south. Shrimp is seasoned and battered the same way and they’re a good size. Grits are incredibly rich but that’s my Yankee pallet because my wife is a Southern Belle and she hasn’t a clue what I’m talking about. Service is friendly, professional and prompt with the food, refills and a smile. I recommend getting the fried grouper sandwich as that it is overly generous in its portion. I’m ordering that on my next visit. More like a 4.5 experience.

Tried this place out on Tuesday night. We have heard good things about it. It wasn’t very busy so we didn’t have to wait long. Waitress was friendly. Food came out fast and just like we ordered. You can tell they take pride in the food and presentation of the food. It was hot and fresh. My wife had the fish tacos and I had the bacon burger. Both were very good. The fries could be a little better and they didn’t have my 1st beer choice. Beside that it was great. We will be back to try something different!

We had a group of 5, service was great, food was great, reasonably priced! We will definitely be back. The mac and cheese was better than most. We will be trying some other menu items but we loved the Thyme Pepper Fried Chicken Sandwich with bacon and real swiss cheese! Thanks for opening an eating establishment that is close to home and you can tell your friends about!
