Buddyz Pizzeria

We have been coming here regularly for over 3 years and loved the butter crust pan pizza, it was literally the only reason we went. Went there tonight and ordered the usual butter crust pan but when it came out it looked and tasted like a buttered, overcooked tortilla filled with sauce and cheese. After waiting and finally going to look for our server, who was sitting at the bar talking to her friend, she explained that there is a new owner and that’s how it was. She offered to go get her manager, came back out without the manager, and went back to the bar. After another couple minutes she finally came back and said the manager was busy talking to the cooks but he would take half off the pizza. We declined and left and the manager never felt the need to talk to us at all. Very disappointed. We will not be back and we were regular customers.
All I would really like to know is where the old owner with the original butter crust recipe went so we can go eat there now!

If we crave something different than giordanos, buddy is a close second. Love the flavor of the butter crust! Probably the best deep dish in McHenry!

My favorite pizza place and great beer selection!
Only problem is service is usually pretty poor here. We’ve never had real good service. Also they should have a «beer menu» instead of reading the chalkboard all the time that someone is sitting in front of. A few simple tweaks and this place would be a much better dining experience!

Overpriced with a side of food poisoning. Went there with a friend next thing we know, we were OUT cold sick. Stay away; especially from the salad bar.

I’ve been going here they opened and in the beginning I thought they had the best pizza ever better then Quonset better then anyone. They must have changed there product it slowly got worse n the pizza I received tonight was garbage. Next to no sauce on it and no flavor. I won’t go back.

Normally like the pizza but terrible service at tines and tonight a pizza that would never fit in the box they use so of course they just fold it over… right. terrible.
Garlic cheese bread was also burned.

Awesome pizza! Went for the first time last night with a big group … had several different types of pizza both thin and deep dish. It was outstanding! The deep dish was especially good … I’m going to go as far as saying it was up there with some of my fav’s (Lou’s and Giodano’s). Great apps too … cheddar cubes and pizza chips with Italian salsa (which was essentially bruschetta)!
I’m a huge pizza snob and this place ranks way up there! So glad we tried it and we will be back.

Poor poor customer service was there tonight with my family and will not be returning the owner has no respect for his customers either does his staff our bus boy told us to go f**** off because we told him we were not done eating and didn’t want our table cleared I was shocked called over the owner he just sat there and really said nothing just wrong thats what u get for not going to the best lou malnatis

We had a great dinner here at a good price. We had a few beers, appetizer and small deep dish pizza for about $ 35. We went at 6:30 on a Saturday and it was packed. It’s a sports bar atmosphere with a nice patio. Our service was good and staff was friendly. The manager was helping on the floor and even stopped to pick up my drink napkin that had fell. Our mozzarella sticks came fast and were delicious. We loved the pizza! Our small deep dish was perfect for two. The pizza tastes like the original pan crust from Pizza Hut back in the 80’s when it was an actual restaurant. The crust was light but crunchy and buttery. The sauce was thin but had nice chucks of tomato. Cheese was good as well. Overall, we thought the pizza was really good and our meal as a whole was great. We’ll definitely go back!

We LOVE LOVE LOVE to eat here! We live in McHenry and come here often for the FABULOUS lunch buffet that has a great salad bar with a different salad every day and the best pizza around! They don’t give you the cheap normal pizza on this buffet, they give you all of their signatures, thin, Chicago pan, bbq chicken, etc. It’s a great value and awesome service!!!

Here’s what went well, Tried the fried calamari for an appetizer. It was seasoned well and not oily, the portion size was appropriate too. The pizza really is good! We ordered both a deep dish and a thin crust. Both were hot and tasty. The table next to us had a salad that looked really yummy I would order one next time.
Here is what could be better: There is not enough room for waiting. This place is busy so don’t go there starving because the wait times are long. Everyone is standing in front of a revolving door squeezed together.
Here’s what must be better: The bartenders are really busy serving the wait staff and the regulars that sit at the bar. If you are standing waiting to order a beer it could be 10 minutes before they acknowledge you, as they are busy chatting with the regulars. If they know you — you get great service otherwise be prepared to stay thirsty.

We came for the lunch buffet, advertised as pizza, pasta and salad for $ 7.49. There was a very small salad offering, a few picked over pizzas, and no pasta even offered. I ate 3 servings of salad thinking more pizzas were coming out, to no avail. Disappointed, for sure.

They are always nice and carryout is fast but holy crap their pizza is hit or miss. My latest pizza pickup was basically garbage. uploaded picture. Absolutely disgusting. Over cooked and burned in places. Waste of money.

My husband and I went out for pizza last night and decided to try someplace new. After reading several of the reviews we decided to give it a try but didn’t have very high expectations for the service from previous reviews. When we arrived the hostess went to check availability of a table and let us know that there would be a wait so we went to sit at the bar. The bartender (I want to say her name was Marissa) was incredible! The service was fantastic and the food was also great try their butter crust pizza it was amazing! I would recommend this place to anyone and will definitely be going back!

We love getting take out from this place! The deep dish is awesome! Crust is definitely the best in town. I would definitely recommend this as the best local pizza place.

Live music every night on their waterfront balcony patio from 6−10pm! Awesome pizza and killer bartenders!

We needed a place like this in McHenry. The location along with your pizza is prime!
But not a fan of your chopped salad.

If you want good pizza, this may be a good place for take out, because the pizza IS really good (like Lou Malnati’s). That’s the only reason why I gave them 2 stars. However… everything else basically sucks.
— The music was BLARING to the point where we couldn’t hear each other talking.
— Not sure who our server was because we had about 3… and they all were inattentive. We had to ask for refills and plates, for the check, we were never checked up on, and they never introduced themselves. We waited forever for everything.
— We didn’t want to sit outside, so we purposefully asked to be inside. They sat us nect to the sliding door that leads to the deck. The kept leaving the door open so wasps were getting in. Not a pleasant eating experience. We even asked them to keep the door shut and they ignored us.
— The girls that work there look like they are ready to go to bed (or just rolled out of bed) — sweatpants, sweatshirts, boots… and it was 80 degrees out. They need t-​shirts like the guys.
— The plates were way too tiny for our pizza (they were appetizer size). We asked for extra sauce on the side and it was served cold. We asked for lemons with the water. They didn’t bring them so we had to ask again. Minor details.
This is what it comes down to. Your food can be great, but if your service sucks, then your restaurant sucks. I shouldn’t have to do more work than you do when I’m paying to be there. The staff needs to be trained, and a manager needs to be present. We all agreed that we wouldn’t be coming back.

I grew up in McHenry and there are plenty of Pizza to go places, but nothing like this. This is EXACTLY what McHenry needed, a fun pizza place where you can sit down and enjoy your time.
My fiancé and I live in Schaumburg (the mecca for chain-​restaurants) and we really miss establishments like this. There is another location, but it doesn’t have that chain feel. It is a really nice building and it smells GREAT when you walk in.
I LOVE that they have WoodChuck on tap, most places don’t and we really enjoyed our pizza. We got a medium, thin crust The Loop – olive oil base, garlic, ricotta cheese, basil, and tomato chunks. YUM! Lots of flavor and very filling. We probably didn’t need the medium, we both ate a lot and had leftovers.
Definitely looking forward to visiting our hometown again and eating some great Buddyz pizza!
