Sakura Japanese Restaurant

100% the best place for sushi! YUMM!!! When we go here, they know the table we want to sit at and the food is fresh and delicious! I love this place! GO HERE!!!

I’ve been here several times and keep coming back. I’ve also been to Sushi King (right down the street) and prefer this one.
What I like — it’s always busy enough that the food is getting used quickly and that means fresh sushi, but it’s not so busy that you can’t get a table.
I fill out the paper sushi menu and they read it back to me every time. This guarantees that my «add avocado» won’t be missed, or that I won’t be lacking pieces. So far, the order has never been flawed.
They have good sized sashimi cuts. The rice in the rolls is not overwhelming. the maki options are plentiful.
Specifically, here are my suggestions (from what I can recall):
the Thai tea is very good — and there’s a dollop of whipped cream… mmmm
the spicy tuna (I add avo) is the roll by which I measure all sushi places since they all have it, and there are different takes on it. I like the heat level here.
Summer roll is excellent
check for the monthly special (on the menu front and over the bar) because those have historically been very good.
Only one I didn’t want again — Crazy Boy. not bad. but average.

Best place around for sushi! Their Summer Roll is super awesome and I get it every time. Wait staff is great and the service is quick. This is our go to for sushi. I’ve tried a ton of places, looking for great sushi and this is the only one I come back too.

We dont have the typical «Where do you want to go for dinner?» «I don’t care.»
We go to Sakura.

If you’re like my dad and don’t like sushi, that’s okay, there are plenty of other options!
We are here all the time. My mom and I come Saturdays when we go grocery shopping together, she and her friends come, my boyfriend and I go.
The waitstaff is incredible, thank you GiGi and the rest of the girls!
They always get out order right, even though I am picky and want to change pretty much everything which I know is annoying but they are always more than willing to accommodate.
I have never had a bad dish here and I’ve had a large majority of what is on the menu.
Angel Wings roll with a house salad is probably one of my favorite meals ever. Their shrimp and vegetable tempura is awesome, the little chive dumplings are delicious. I could go on and on.
Just try it. It’s the best.

Cold food… orange chicken was tough and cold. The fried rice was cold and appeared to be reheated. I don’t think the fried rice was fresh. No flavor.
My wife was disappointed with her steak. Cold and tough, the sauce was gross. Syrup on steak.
This is our first and last time here. Big mistake

This first time I’ve gotten sushi from here.
I placed my order online. The website was extremely easy to use. For your first online order they automatically give you a discount. They send you a confirmation email with what time it would be done. I got there about 5 minutes early and it was all set.
The sushi rolls were nicely packaged in one tray. If you dont want all of your rolls in one tray you should leave a comment while ordering it to package it differently.
The sushi was very fresh and very reasonably priced. Would highly recommended and will be going again.

The sushi was good; nothing to really brag about. I got a bento box. They only offered teriyaki options for the bento box. I wish there was a sesame chicken option. The teriyaki chicken wasn’t good and tasted like low quality. The shrimp tempura was really good. I honestly feel that the prices are way too high for what you get. I would feel differently if the quality of food was better.

This place is delicious and fresh. It is not your usual sushi place. It also serves other popular Asian dishes such as Chinese and Thai entries. The staff is always pleasant and the restaurant looks clean. I would recommend to anyone in the area.

Awesome sushi, great employees, great prices. The best part about this restaurant is, they don’t skimp on ingredients! Never disappointed.

Good stuff and the wait staff in very good. I like the Orange Chicken myself, and the sushi is excellent too. Nice and clean like to have more often if I could afford it.

As one can gather from the other reviews as well, Sakura is about as good as it gets around here when it comes to sushi. The service is always wonderful, and the sushi is top quality.
The atmosphere in the restaurant is outstanding. It has all sorts of cool lighting and different pieces on the walls. The design is well-​thought out.
Pricing is great, hell sometimes I feel like the prices are lower than they should be. Especially for the sushi we are getting.
Wonderful place. If looking for great price AND great quality, Sakura is well worth your time and money.

I have Not had a bad meal or bad service at Sakuras yet.
The atmosphere is great and the dining area is decorated pretty cute. They have paper umbrellas hanging from the ceiling and if you tell them it’s your birthday they dim the lights and turn party lights and strobe lights on while they blast «Happy Birthday» music.
The presentation and arrangement of the sushi on the plates are pleasing to the eye.
Sushi is good. We have tried a few other items on the menu besides sushi and thought those were just as good.
Wait/​service staff has always been kind and prompt.
A little bit pricey but not bad enough to turn me away and I would rather pay a little more for the atmosphere of the restaurant.

Sakura is THE BEST sushi place in the McHenry area. The hot food is always hot, the sushi is always fresh, and the service is always great. Definitely my go-​to sushi place. It’s as close as you can get to good sushi, without traveling all the way to the city.

Very good service. I didn’t care for the tempura here but would come again for the maki and bentos.

The food is better than you think it would be, they have some creative local rolls (yes, McHenry Roll is on the menu), as well as the basics (California, Tuna, etc.).
The ambiance is just ok — it is in a strip mall, after all. The staff is friendly, nice and fast.
Make sure you sign up for their monthly email. They only send one a month. keep it on your phone and you’ll always get at least 10% off.

This is a top notch sushi Resturant. Everything was fresh and the server was quick, attentive and personable.

So glad we stumbled upon this fantastic find! Newly built or remodled inside, everything looks clean and fresh. Our party of 3 had miso soup, house salad (awesome ginger dressing), dragon roll, crazy roll, crazy monkey, winter roll, and shrimp kung pow. Loved absolutely everything. Service was attentive and very friendly. We will definitely be back.

Excellent food and very friendly wait staff.
It’s kind of hard to find good restaurants in Mchenry but Sakura proved to be a welcome change of pace.
It’s not the fanciest place but the food is excellent. I recommend the Mchenry rolls and the Crazy Monkey rolls, both were excellent and fresh.
The first time I ate at Sakura, we ate there. One weekday, we were looking for chinese food that delivered… Sakura has Chinese food as well as sushi and Maki rolls… and the best part– THEY DELIVER!!!
Anyways, the Chinese food was really good too. We had the General Tao’s Chicken and some beef dish, both were excellent. We also had crab ragoon and egg rolls… the crab raggoon is awesome. The real kicker was… they deliver maki rolls too! And they were total fresh.
Sakura is a definite visit if you are in the Mchenry area. Eat in or Order out.

Love, love, love. We’re regulars here! The monthly rolls are always interesting and the special rolls are always filling and delicious. The staff is one of my favorite things about Sakura, though: they are some of the friendliest that I know of and make us feel completely at home. I’ve brought friends and family and all have been impressed.

If all places to think of sushi McHenry/​Johnsburg (border) is probably not the first place to come to mind. In fact I was a bit if a snob and didn’t come here at first. How could there be good sushi out here. Boy was I wrong. This place is good. Amazing hand rolls. Always intriguing specials rolls that change monthly/​seas only. Classy casual, intimate sushi bar, good amount of seating but small, good for couples but can handle groups too.
Went for my dad’s birthday and just stuffed ourselves. Just eye rolling give me more. Just as they cleared the platter the lights dimmed, the music cranked and … A really fun birthday surprise occurred. Not going to spoil it, but we are still laughing and joking about it.
The wait staff are friendly and attentive. They know their product and are great at explaining things to the sushi virgin. My diet coke is always full!
