This gallery has/had a Dali exhibit of original prints. The curator working there was very helpful and informative. I was prepared to pay up to $ 10 for entrance but it was free.(If I paid $ 10, I would have been slightly disappointed because it’s not a very large gallery, but I would have been happy to pay $ 5.)

This is a nice stop en route to the coast or on the way back– it’s an unexpected dose of fine art in the country. They currently have an exhibit of Salvador Dali’s etchings and watercolors that is free to see. They also have paintings and sculptures by other artists, some reflecting the landscape of the area. Worth checking out if you’re in the area!

We visited the Lawrence Gallery mainly for the chance to see their Dali exhibit — a nicely varied and extensive collection that was evidently from one local/regional collector. And yes — it was worth the time and drive(who can complain about the beautiful drive up the Salmon River Hwy?) While I’d love to go on and on about the Dali exhibit — what potential visitors probably want to know is about the gallery itself. –This is a good sized place with a large, partitioned main room, and at least 1 aux room, and a small wine tasting room in addition to their offices and storage. They are showing/selling work by over a dozen painters, half that many sculptors, and even a jewelry artist. They have plenty of room for temporary exhibits like the Dali — which was about 20+ drawings/paintings/prints + 2 huge draped painted canvases, some framed letters and photos, a table of books and literature, and a few other bits of Dali miscellany. They were getting another show ready to go up while we were there — and while not as splashy as Salvador Dali, what we saw looked interesting and presented a varied and good sampling of that artist. It may be another day trip in the future. As with most galleries, not all the art they represent was to my taste, or equally well executed — but there were a couple of painters I’d like to watch and revisit. Of the 2 sculptors I liked best — I could have lived with any of their work that we saw today. The place is cozy(!) and the staff stays out of your way unless you need and ask for help. In spite of being out in the middle of the wine country, they are easy to find — and easy to enjoy browsing. A day well spent –

This is a nice gallery with varied styles and mediums. We always get what we want(up to what my pocketbook says I can take home).
