2nd Floor Gallery presents an eclectic assortment of artwork, from local to internationally-known. There is something here for most price-points and objects that are just fun to those that are serious investments. While the prior reviewer, an artist, «dissed» the place because of their business practices, they are clearly insensitive to the amount of investment and effort that goes into running a gallery. As an artist affiliated with 2nd Floor for many years, and a former gallery owner myself, I have a whole different perspective on the business practices at 2nd Floor. We are living in tough times and it is hard enough for a gallery to survive in New York, let alone Mechanicsburg, PA. 2nd Floor is a well-run, professionally-managed operation. It has been around for well over ten years, unlike the galleries that have come and gone in nearby communities. They must be doing something right! Hats off to Terry and Jeff for the courage and effort to maintain a gallery in Mechanicsburg for all of these years. Artists who do not appreciate it clearly have no sense of the business side of being an artist — and the amount of sacrifice made by the people who run galleries.

Although this seems like a place Mechanicsburg needs I have nothing but negative things to say about this gallery. I personally have sold artwork through this gallery and I have to say that the business practice is awful and very questionable. Artists are often taken advantage of in their careers by all different kinds of people. I want to say that if you want to support the arts, deal with artists directly. Don’t buy their artwork at a place that will take a horrible amount from their sale and on top of that fail to pay them in full when promised. Artwork is not a lay-away commodity. Artists, there are a lot more places to have your work be seen, you just have to look a little.
