Let me start off by saying this is defiantly an adult gallery. They were having a wine and cheese tasting for first Friday when I visited. Stuart A. had multiple partiwlly nude adult portraits, all of which were covered. For me that was somewhat interesting. There were whqt looked like ‘space guns’ made out of pewter. A little artists studio with all sorts of artwork, a few cigar box electric guitars. And in the far back a stage with live music playing.

There is nothing else like Metropolis Collective in this part of PA, and I’m only sorry I didn’t get to spend more time here before I moved to Brooklyn. The artwork is stimulating, unique, and – more often than not – fantastic. Metropolis’ owners are truly providing an invaluable asset to the community; I only hope Mechanicsburg’s residents recognize that.

Walking through the front door at Metropolis is like stepping through a teleporter to Chelsea. The art is edgy and contemporary — not all suitable for young children — young teens may get an education! But, it pops! A good number of the pieces challenge you — cause you to question — make you wonder. Some also make you laugh. Metropolis is a gallery where you can talk about the meaning of the art — what are the artists trying to say? The owners are taking great risks to bring such an establishment to Mechanicsburg. It certainly is a nice edition — a surprising little island in a conservative pond… definitely a place you must see once and most will come back again and again…
