Know what you are in for when you walk into the Plumstead, and you’ll have a good time. This is not a place where they are going to have 20+ craft beers and locally grown food. This is a fun, divey type bar with good bar food. There is a jukebox and photo hunt. What more could you want? The food is actually surprisingly good. It’s not fancy, but it is way better than I expected. I got buffalo chicken fingers and they were up there with some of the best chicken fingers I have had. This is not the place where you would get a steak, but the bar food is good and the atmosphere is mellow. It’s a nice neighborhood bar with really great bar staff.

Plumstead is a suburb of London. If my food was typical, they can keep it in England! Meh. I blew in around 12:30 on a Wednesday for lunch. I was the only person sitting at the very large bar. The restaurant proper had four other folks. That was it. Not a good sign for prime lunchtime on State Street. I was greeted promptly by a friendly bartender that reeled off the specials. I choose the Cheeseburger Platter. Here that means it comes with fries. No slaw or anything else. That’s kind of sad. The service for the remainder of my visit was just barely adequate. I had a hard time getting a drink refill and my food came out just as I was starting to get annoyed by the wait. So my burger and fries was served on a disposable plate! Are you kidding me? A throw away plate at a sit down restaurant on State Street is not right and I was not impressed. Speaking of disposable, that was also true of my fries. They were frozen from-a –bag of course and not hot enough. The main event should have been the burger but this pattern of a Meh experience continued. It was served on a wonderful soft kaiser roll but that’s the only nice thing I can say. I was an incredibly tiny frozen patty that was completely lost in the roll. I would have been embarrassed to serve it to anyone. You can walk to about ten other places in three minutes. My advice is to keep on walking.

I went here for my first time in March. I recommend that you avoid this place if you’re not a townie. The bartender walked by twice without even acknowledging us. It was not even crowded. When she finally got us drinks she aggressively slammed then down in front of us. Prices were good though.

The crowd is the same losers every night, the bartenders are ignorant and terrible at what they do. There are so many better choices on state street than this dump. Also, the food is enough to make you barf. Better times are a short walk away.

I’ve been here twice, once for late night drinks and once for happy hour. My late night experience was great. There was live music and cheap beers, so there really was no opportunity to mess up. The last time i was there I sat outside with my family which was a party of six. The bartender took our drink order at the table, which came out quick and correct. The waitress took over the table from there. Everything we ordered was overcooked, stale, and dry. My grandmas shrimp had a hair in it and had empty shrimp tails on the plate. Our second round of drinks came out each drink individually. I got the feeling our waitress was intoxicated or on some type of medication. The table and chairs were covered in old food and ketchup. The bartender actually had to comp two of our drinks because the service was so poor. Go for the late night, try somewhere else for food.

Food leaves something to be desired but the service damn near every time I have been there(at east 10 times) has been sub par at best, which is my biggest pet peeve since I have been in the business for over 10 years. My boyfriend has lived in Media for two years, myself for about a year and have been to our share of bars in Delco and, of course, State Street. This seems to be the only place where if you are not part of whatever«clique» that frequents it, you will be practically ignored and charged full price for specials that are clearly on the wall. Or maybe attentiveness to newcomers and establishing repeat business isn’t the focus here, but whatever it is it has absolutely turned me off to this place. It could use a cosmetic face lift as well, but why bother? Sorry Plumstead, you’ve had more than enough chances, I will be spending my money elsewhere from now on.

Great place for cheap drinks and fairly decent food. I know media tends to be pretty trendy and I would describe this as a «delco» bar. Those who are local know what I mean. That being said, they let you stack drinks at the end of happy hour and it saves some cash. Great place for endibg your night.

This place is such a shit hole. It’s 1÷19÷14 bartender is a complete asshole by the way his leg is gushing blood which is disgusting he told me I can’t order food and he handed me a menu from little Anthony’s next door. Clearly the pizza menus for plum stead inn are right in front of my face, I give this shithole a NEGATIVE18. Place can kick rocks all the customers look like they’re from the boonies. Lol ps place smells like my balls after a 3 mile run. STAYAWAY!

This is a BAR that just happens to have really good food. Tip: SKIP the outdoor seating as all the smokers hang out there. If you were lucky enough to grab a clean table the smell of butts n beers would disgust you. Just sit inside and enjoy comfort food at good prices.

The only reason I go to this place is because you can drink outside. If it wasn’t for the patrons and the fact I can bring the dog here while having beer with my friends I probably wouldn’t go to the bar at all. It takes forever to get a beer, even for the patrons who frequent the place. Haven’t had their food nor do I think I will every try it. Beer selection is okay and their prices are fair. The place has a good ambiance and is worth a try.

The Plumstead Inn re-opened in January 2012 after being closed for two years. I finally had the opportunity to dine there the other night. It was a warm spring evening, and the bar was not too crowded. Beer selection was adequate, with Troegs, Dogfish Head and Victory on tap, along with Warsteiner Dunkel, and Guinness. The wine by glass selection was decent as well, with prices ranging from 8 – 13 dollars per glass. Food was ok. I ordered a lamb shank which was well done, fall off the bone, and had a nice infusion of rosemary flavor. The beans beneath it were good as was the broth. I was surprised I was not given and vegetables or starch as well. Began with a pedestrian house salad served with blue cheese dressing that resembled ranch. Rolls were whole wheat but nothing to right home about. DIning companion had chicken marsala which came with both a veg and potato. Entrees ranged from 12 – 30 dollars. Service was friendly and not intrusive. Good addition to the local dinning scene. It is packed on weekends, but it is worth going to when it is not packed.

I stopped in a few drinks — fun local place. There were mostly old people inside, which made the fact that the jukebox playing Arcade Fire and the Old 97s pretty entertaining. The bartender wasn’t talkative to me the outsider, but did his job well.

This bar totally reminds me of a bar they go to in Good Will Hunting. It has this old school grandma kitchen type of musky aura about it. It’s charming to some and awkward to others, for myself, if depends on the mood I am in. I am def ok with stopping in here for a drink or 2 or capping the night off but if you ask me to spend over an hour here, I will begin whining. The bartenders are very laid back and nice. The attendees are mostly male as there are tons of TVs with sports and well, let’s just say you won’t get looked down upon if you don’t shower before you come in here. Maybe I am being a little snooty but it’s just ok to me. huge plus… They have a cider available!!!

Although it’s not my first bar choice in Media, I’ve been to the P-Stead several times while living in the area… you always seem to end up there at the end the night… probably because it’s the cheapest bar on State. Always love the outdoor seating during the summer, cheap beers, and friendly patrons and bartenders. On the other hand, don’t like the permanent urinal cake smell of the inside(anyone else notice this?), lack of good bar food, and cave-like interior.

Local towny watering hole. No frills. $ 2 beers, juke box, plenty of drunk people watching. I never expected to give a towny dive like this 4 stars, but my boyfriend keeps dragging me here, and hell, we’ve had some good times, the bartender Dom is awesome, and the place really grows on you. Keep your expectations low and you won’t be disappointed.

I haven’t had the food yet there, not sure that I will. But, I had a blast. My friends & I had full attention of the bartender & the drinks were pretty good. They could’ve been a little stronger, but after several drinks & some fun with the juke box– I have to say– it was a goooooooooooood night. ;)

I like local bars, most of the time, but I never could fit in at the Plumstead. That alone wouldn’t get me to give a place only two stars but there are several problems with this establishment. Despite it’s comfortable atmosphere and hometown feel, the Plumstead has some of the worst food I’ve ever had at a bar. They take pub food to a new low, using the cheapest ingredients and spending no time spicing or flavoring anything they make. If it comes from a can or can be frozen and quick thawed, they do it. The people in the bar are friendly enough, some are down right fun. I love the patrons. I wish we could do without the bartender though. Dom remains, despite over a dozen attempts on my part, a completely unfriendly guy with little skill in customer service. I’ve been to bars where you have to ‘earn your place’, Frank’s in Philly will have you standing there with a thumb up you a%% for ten minutes before serving you. But I’ve put in a lot of time at this bar and nothing seems to thaw Dom out. You might have a different experience, but I’d suggest if you go to the Plum, do it as a group or have a local group bring you in.

You don’t go to the plummer for the«scenery»…you go because you can grab a few friends and sit in one of the dark cavelike booths and really hash some stuff out. You go because it’s not Joclyn’s or Sligo and people won’t try to talk to you. You go because it’s 2 in the afternoon and need a place to hide and drink a beer. You go because they have a satellite jukebox and you can torture the other patrons with some Morissey when his is the only voice you can stand to hear. It’s simple… beer…some food… a relatively clean bathroom… and solitude(in the back booths… don’t even attempt to have a conversation by the bar. it’s not going to happen) if you need it.

I have never been there for food, and I would like to specifically focus my content on the bar. If there was one word to describe this bar, it would be «bar». If its just me and a buddy trying to go out and get a beer mid week in media, we will walk up and down state street and still always end up back at the Plumstead. It’s a very simple place with the bar essentials… a bar, booths, stools and beer. Always has a $ 2 pint, always has a good guy backing the bar, always has a game on, always offers someone else to drink with and always has beer. That my friends is a 4 star media bar.
