Not the place it used to be. If you’re a local, I believe you get better service and definitely better tasting food. But if you are not native to the food being cooked there. You’re definitely not getting good service or food.

Consistency. If I don’t want to go gamble my money to any other place in the area I head to los comales. I like ordering their carnitas and who doesn’t like a decent agua de horchata.

As a Californian living in Illinois, I’m quite critical when it comes to eating Mexican food. It’s easy to find a good Taqueria where I’m from. Most of the places I walked into before had some weird stuff that passed itself odd as Mex(you’re kidding with you’re Cheddar Cheese Tacos, right Pepe’s!?). Los Comales is a great place that fills that void for me. Food is inexpensive but not cheap. Food is fast but it isn’t fast food. And tacos are a dollar on Tuesdays! How can you go wrong?

There are so many Mexican places to go on Lake St. in Melrose Park. I try to avoid this place since it’s a chain and also the chains are not consistent. This has to be my least favorite(I prefer Midway’s chains better), but the food is good especially if you want a late night fix. They are open late and 24 hours on Friday and Saturday! Just found this out! For Gringo’s, you’ll have to ask for onions and cilantro or else they will put lettuce and tomato. I guess they assume if you speak English, to use lettuce and tomato. Big mistake because I’m Mexican at heart!

This place was decent went it first opened. Last time I went I ordered a Torta de Milaneza and they gave me a Carne Asada. Lady didn’t even apologize for messing up my order which made me more upset. I rather drive a lil bit further to Atotonilco

This is like the place you go when you’re either really drunk and want tacos, or it’s really late and no other place is open. Pretty average food, much better taco places out there

Very low seasoning on the meat. The toppings have no flavor and the salsa is so watered down that it doesn’t taste like much. I won’t go even if it’s late. There are better mexican restaurants in the area.

Came here with my brother and his fiancé for dinner. A simple Mexican taqueria but delicious. I had the tree taco dinner, which comes with said taco’s with your choice of filling as well as rice and beans. I decided to branch out a little and got Al Pastor, Lengua, and Tripas. All were excellent! Lengua and Tripas can both be a little rubbery /chewy if not cooked properly, but these were perfect. The beans were creamy and delicious(I’m assuming there’s a ton of lard in them, but damn they taste good). The rice was a little bland but inoffensive. Overall a filling meal for a cheap price. If I lived closer I could see this being a great late night spot. They do charge for water. Keep up the good work guys!

Food is good, but there are more taco shops around here that are better. Expertly located though. I love the fact that it stays open late on the weekends, but with that, you get really drunk idiots starting fights, and can get messy. Staff is attentive, and have a pretty good selection of food. Prices are a bit steep for the portion, but an overall okay place.

You can’t go wrong with Taco Tuesday. The carnitas tacos are delicious. The tortas are fantastic and they have carrots at each table.

The taco especial is the most popular item on the menu, I wouldn’t get anything other then that. You have to pay 25 cents for water…

Bad service, bad food! Came here a week ago and ordered a torta ahogada(the worst I’ve had in my life) the meat was dry and the bun was hard. It came in a bowl in a lot of sauce which tasted nasty! Parecía sopa de torta en vez de torta ahogada! Of course I only took a couple bites and ordered something different. But my second choice didn’t impress me. I am never coming back to this place.

Stopped in tonight was beyond disgusted the«steak» tacos are NOT steak! If your going to charge me $ 1.50 for a small taco. the«steak» CANNOTBEGRAY! So disappointed. The food has gone so down hill! There are so many other places on this block to go. They now have taco Tuesday, but it isn’t worth it when your tacos are so greasy you can’t even eat them. They also definitely changed their tortillas, they are more flower looking than corn. Its staged because I don’t know why they would have changed such a good thing?! Oooo and you are charged for water! Clearly I will never be back!

I live in the Lincoln Park, so I came to visit my parents who live in Melrose Park and decided to eat here. I was not impressed at all. The waitress we had must not have been having a good day. She was rude, standoffish, and not pleasant. The only thing that saved this experience was the food. I really wanted to like this place since I here people always talking about it.

Worst Experience at a Comales! Waited about 20 minutes to get my order taken and when we finally did the waitress took for ever to bring is our drinks. Service is slow and the food isn’t the best. The asada is full of fat gross, never going back to this Comales that’s for sure

Los Comales catered a Taquiza for my daughter’s 1st Birthday… and I couldn’t be happier! I’ve experienced other taquizas at relatives’ parties, but none can be compared to this one by Los Comales :-) I am very appreciative of their outstanding service. The taqueros were professional and attentive to all of my guests. The food of course was splendid. It definitely makes a difference to get a good package, different meats with rice and beans, etc. Thank you Los Comales-Melrose Park, my daughter’s 1st birthday celebration was a succes :-)

I highly dislike this place, especially this location. I have tried it several times and now refuse to step foot in it. Service: poor Food: Edible. It is not even close to authentic. I wouldn’t mind the small tacos if the tortillas were homemade or the meats were phenomenal but neither of these descriptions apply. Comales is over rated because they are a chain but like many chains they lack quality and flavor. I would most certiantly hesitate to call this mexican.

TACOSSS! They’re small so you can eat like 10 of them… lol, not really but they’re so good I’m sure you could. Tacos de Carne Asada or Cecina. That’s what I always get, with a side of cebollitas and chiles toreados. Damn, I’m makin me hungry! =p Just recently the franchise added rice and beans with the meals but I don’t really care for either since I just go for the previously mentioned. Get some horchata too, that’ll hit the spot.

Why go to White Castle at 3am on your way home from the party or club when you can get some great authentic Mexican food? Yes, Los Comales is open 24 hours on the weekends, & this place is always packed after hours. I started coming to this place in high school. It was one of many bad habits my best friend at the time got me into. It makes me wonder«have I ever been to this place sober??», since it’s well after midnight every time I come here, & I’m typically incoherent. But don’t get me wrong. I don’t have a distorted impression of this place whatsoever. While I may be well in the bag every time I’ve sat down for a meal in this restaurant, A co-worker of mine would bring me Los Comales burritos whenever we worked on Saturday’s. The verdict? My favorite place for a burrito al pastor. They give you plenty of salsas to take with you, & even a little baggie of chiles & carrots. This is also the place where I first tried the more«exotic» kinds of meat. Since the tacos are so small, it’s the perfect place to sample. Cecos(brains) and tripas(tripe) are among the few I sampled. Quite good, believe it or not. Maybe it’s because I doused my tacos heavily with their salsa verde that I couldn’t taste it anyway. But that’s okay, because their salsas are awesome. This place doesn’t serve alcohol, but that’s okay. It’s a good place to start the sobering up process with greasy Mexican food & horchatas!
