The food was good, I ate it and took a dump afterwards, I don’t think it was a reflection on the food I think I just had to poop

The food here is great if you know what to order. The dumplings(called«Peking ravioli» and therefore guaranteed to confuse 90% of potential customers) are a must: freshly made, with chewy dough(fried crispy on one side) and rich, satisfying pork filling. [Be sure to ask for hot mustard, which they don’t always include by default; the mustard takes the dumplings over the top.] Wings are crispy and fresh; the noodle dishes are good if not great, and the servings are ample for the money. I found the egg roll a bit too oily, but the spring roll was compact and delightful. Crab rangoons, which I usually found ridiculous, were also yummy. The stuff I haven’t enjoyed has been the gross«Caucasian chow» dishes like«szechuan chicken» and basically anything in a corn starch-thickened sauce. So, stick with what works, and you’ll enjoy it.

I used to be a regular here until they served me spoiled seafood and offered little in the way of apologies. It was so bad I think it may have made me sick, and I struggle to see how someone could have allowed it to be packaged up and sent to a customer. Maybe if you stick to the fried rice and americanized appetizer standards you’ll be fine.

This place was good. Now it’s horrible. Beef chow foon was as hard as a rock…(noodle was not fresh) chicken wings were not fresh. Sticks to the bone and there’s this black thing on it. No idea what that is… General gau was the only thing that was good. Bit don’t order their dinner plate specials as the friend rice that comes with it is burnt and also as hard as a rock… Chicken Lomein is also bad. Avoid if u have a choice…

The food from Melrose Garden is decent. I will not deny that. And that’s why I gave it 3 stars. But sadly, the customer service is dreadful enough that I won’t order from there again. When I first moved to Melrose from Boston, I was thrilled to have a decent chinese restaurant within walking distance of my new house. Throughout the summer, I ordered from there at least every other week. Always the same dish… a sesame tofu combo dish. The woman who took the orders was always super pleasant and the food was good. Sometime in the fall(I think), I called to order and the gentleman that answered told me that I couldn’t get the same order that I had gotten all summer long. When I explained that I had ordered it repeatedly, he told me I was wrong. Begrudgingly, I accepted it and eventually just started ordering it as a single order(not a combo). Now it’s March. I called tonight and was told that I can’t get it at all, ever again. Now, I realize that they have the right to change their menu. But the staff is just kind of curt. It’s just been a crappy vibe ever since the change.(I think there are new owners.) Needless to say, I decided to order from another restaurant just down the road tonight. And assuming it’s good, that’ll be my go to from now on. PS– It’s not only good. It’s better.

The wife an I had take out delivered for our dinner. She had the sweet and sour chicken with pork fried rice. I had the general tsao‘s chicken with rice and egg roll. Both meals were lousy. Her sweet and sour chicken was like leather, with no fruit. My chicken was just as tough could barely put a fork into it, the broccoli was soggy, also way overloaded with sweet sauce. The pork fried rice was dry as well as the pork was like shoe leather. The egg roll was about the only decent piece of food. Our first experience with this place, and our last.

Great place for some late night drunken munchies. Probably makes the best crab rangoons I have had. I usually just get the simple stuff like that, some lo mein, chicken/beef teriyaki. It hits the spot and I am happy with it. Delivery is also wicked fast.

The place is a hole in the wall in the«ghetto» of Melrose. The food is good but not great. The boneless spare ribs are the best i’ve ever had anywhere. Worth the drive to Melrose.

I am a food lover and I do not care about anything else about any restaurant other than the food quality. And taste wise I shouldn’t have given a single star also I guess. By the way I saw the reviews before going and I thought this is going to be small nook with ok food. But no this is actually a horrible place to eat. I know thousand places nearby who serves 1000 times better food in same price range. Amount was good but doesn’t matter because I had to throw it anyway.

The food here was just as most people said… meh. I read the reviews before I ordered but my dumb ass didn’t listen. I ordered a pupu platter for one and a small lobster sauce. The lobster sauce had a great taste but it turned into water within minutes… gross I hate when that happens. Most of the items in the pupu platter tasted like they were 2 or 3 days old and drenched in oil. The only positive thing was the cheap ass prices and the super speedy delivery. That is not enough to make me order from here again.

Tried this place once, and it will be the last time. First, I ordered delivery and it was very late. The food was so bad it made my stomach upset. I requested no onions in my rice which is a little trick I use to have the rice freshly prepared. Guess what? My rice had onions in it and was the rice is really old. I’m guessing it was was reheated at least 3 times. I’ve worked at a Chinese restaurant and I know the tricks. Let expose a few. How about all the apps(chicken fingers, bone spare ribs, and egg rolls) before you even get a craving this apps are par or fully cooked. Then when you order it they toss it into the fryolator again. When you get food that tastes stale or overcooked, this is why. If you want better food near this location hit up the theo’s or corner deli. Your stomach will thank you.

Eh, they’re alright. I probably won’t order from there again, simply because there are so many other Chinese take-out places around, so why waste my time and money. The delivery was quick. I give them that. But the containers for everything were not made for the food we ordered. For example, one thing we ordered was a beef dish that is usually covered in sauce. In every other Chinese place, this is served in a plastic container with a snap lid. This place delivered it in styrofoam, which resulted in a real mess when we put the bag down and the contents shifted. The food was decent-enough. I wasn’t a fan of their scallion pancakes, and the dipping sauce for them is mediocre at best. Their General Gau’s Chicken was pretty good. However, they got our order wrong and paired it with pork-fried rice instead of white rice.

I only ordered from this place because it was late and had the best reviews for take out. I’ve had better. The springrolls were extra greasy and the beef with broccoli was drowning in a sauce that screamed heart attack central. I think the food only tasted half decent because of my starvation hunger kicking in. I must say though the delivery was very fast.

I don’t know what you people expect, but this is one of the best takeout places I’ve ever eaten from. The actual restaurant is literally a hole in the wall. It’s old, beat to hell, and completely undecorated. There are only a couple of tables and a kitchen, it’s certainly not a place people eat in at very often. For takeout though, it can’t be beat. I always get the combo plates. There are a good twenty or so to choose from and each has enough food for at least two meals. For around seven bucks you can get such deliciousness as general gao’s chicken with pork fried rice and crab rangoons. The food is delicious, too, definitely the best takeout Chinese I’ve ever had. The delivery is usually pretty fast, as well and it’s open late.

decided to give the melrose garden another chance. melrose seriously needs some better delivery places for chinese food. this time was just as bad as the first experience, but the steamed dumplings were at least fully cooked. they also included bok choy in the dumplings which was a nice thought, although it was totally overpowering and tasted a little like lemon pledge. the beef terriyaki that we ordered was so tough that it was extremely hard to eat. the fast delivery isn’t enough to have me order from them ever again. skip this place — trust me. ugh.

Ok so I have ordered there a coupla times since then. The experiences were more like the first than the second, so I am assuming that the 2nd time I ordered(greasy rice, etc.) was probably the cook. Overall, its not a bad place. The rice and chicken fingers are good, and the delivery is lightning fast. Moreover, its a great value; I got stuffed on 15 bucks worth of food. and i mean STUFFED
