E’s 24-Hour Cafe

Solid diner fare with service that is both friendly and efficient. Burger is the standout.

Thought it was extremely sketchy when I pulled in at night, but the moment I walked in I could feel the warmth from the staff. The food was made exactly how I asked for it and came out quickly. If you are looking for a late night spot in Memphis, look no further. Whatever you do, stay away from Perkins.

Is it possible to rate a budget diner with a Five-​star Unilocal?Yes indeed, and I do give it 5-​Star. Just keep in mind that it’s a budget 24-​Hour Café with a low-​cost meals in very casual surroundings. Almost every menu meal is $ 10 or less. E’s was an important part of my recent five-​day visit in Memphis. They have a basic menu with breakfast, lunch, and supper selections all available any time of day and night. I was a stranger to Memphis, but I immediately felt at home in E’s Café. It was a convenient location, so I ate at least one meal there every day of the five that I was in town. At my first visit, I exchanged friendly greetings with Dianah (my server) and Will (the cook). They are both very nice people, and also attentive to ensure prompt service and food prepared just right. Service is prompt, so I never saw a customer (including myself) have to gain the attention of Dianah or the servers on the other shifts. E’s will try to make sure you’re satisfied with your order. They will unhesitatingly re-​do your order if there’s any smidgen of something wrong. I was happy with every meal, but I did hear another customer make a comment, and neither of the two-​person staff took any offense whatsoever, and remedied the minor problem at once. Sit at the counter if you like to watch your own meal prepared. This café is simple pleasure at its best. Buy a newspaper from the rack out front, relax and enjoy your meal, and read a few articles before you leave. Or, the staff will provide friendly conversation as their chores permit. I was on a limited budget during my five day Memphis stay, and so I was very happy with the value and courtesy. Many thanks for the memories at E’s 24-​Hour Café.

Don’t let the décor fool you: the food is a cut above and the service is fast and friendly. Definitely worth the visit if you’re in the area.

E’s is a limited menu diner style breakfast. It is in the same ballpark as a CK’s Coffee, but cleaner. One chef and one waitress do everything, and you can watch the chef work the kitchen, which is in the open.
The menu is extremely limited and basic. However, the food is shockingly good. The scrambled eggs are delicious and not greasy. The pancakes have a slight crisp, filled with buttery fluffy flavor. It would be hard for me to think of better simple pancakes elsewhere. The sausage patties were incredibly favorable, unusually good.
The coffee is diner style and merely acceptable. The bacon was also merely average, with the aftertaste that haunts bacon when it’s cooked in large quantities, not to order (we still ate it, because it’s bacon).
This place really beat expectations and is an excellent example of a limited menu diner style that does few things but does they very well at very inexpensive price. A foodie might rate this a 2 star, but if you like a simple menu, this is a very good breakfast. You will be impressed.

I was expecting a bigger waffle. It was pretty good, chewy. They get 4 stars instead of 5 because the water tasted like it came out of a water-​hose & it didn’t. Had that been the case, 5 stars.

I’ve been to this location about three or four times now. The consistencies in service and food are fantastic. The pancakes. I am a pancake guy and I truly believe that my homemade pancakes are phenomenal. Mine don’t hold a candle to these. They are always just fluffy enough and never overdone. They come in hot as well, which is important to me. Everything else from the hash browns to the bacon is great as well. The only reason I am not going to elevate this place to a five is because they atmosphere doesn’t have a lot of personality. If you are going to be a hole in the wall breakfast place, be a hole in the wall breakfast place. If you are going to be more than that, be more than that. All in all, none of the matters. This place is great and the staff is extraordinarily friendly.

While waiting at Gateway for my tire change I took a walk to get some food. I have seen E’s and always wanted to know if it was decent, so this was the perfect time!
The inside reminds me of waffle house… small diner with bar seats to watch the food cook. Loved that it didnt smell as bad as waffle houses typically do! And hey… I didnt leave smelling like grease!
I came in and after standing awkwardly I realized it is a seat yourself kind of joint. I sat at the bar and the waitress came over quickly. I didnt even get through the menu… once I saw chicken and waffles I knew that was what I had to have. My order took a reasonable amount of time, not a long wait nor a super short one. It is an interesting mix of people (but not in a sketchy way) so sitting and ease dropping was quite entertaining. They also have a jukebox! How cool!
The silverware was cheap and I would have rathered cut my waffle over tearing it. My order came with 1 waffle, 2 fried strips of chicken and hashbrowns. I loved the chicken — not oily at all! The waffle wasnt the best but it served its purpose. Best part was that my total was under $ 6! They also had sugar free syrup which was a bonus!
Cheap diner with decent food! At least in the day it is clean and not filled with creepers. It is a 24 hour joint so not sure how the place is after dark. Good service, sugar free syrup and I didn’t leave smelling gross — a place I certainly will visit again… even if only when I am getting my car fixed or when my chicken fried steak loving father comes to visit.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner served always!
